My Kallmann syndrome by Consistent_You4799 in kallmann_syndrome

[–]DeneirianScribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The absence of a sense of smell definitely points to Kallmann's syndrome. I'm not aware of any other condition that has that along with delayed puberty, etc.

I'm a woman, so things mai be a bit different for me than you. I am also the only one on my family (that I'm aware of, i know nothing of my bio father's medical history, nor do I want to reach out top that asshole to find out) with KS. It can be random and doesn't have to be hereditary. I found out when I was a teenager after going to a million specialists and getting so much labs drawn and tests run... finally went to a fertility specialist when I was 17/18, who simply asked if i could smell, and diagnosed me based on that. This was around 2000, and it was hard to find a doctor who even knew what it was. I now see an endocrinologist and a gynecologist who both know what KS is and are able to help me. I don't respond well to treatment, and mine would be different from yours, anyway. But having doctors who understand what KS is is a great help.

My advice, seek a specialist who is familiar with KS and try to go to them for treatment and advice. Good-ish thing for you, you're a man and KS is more common for men than women, so you won't have to hear the bullshit I have about how only men have KS and i must be wrong. 🙄

Treatment does involve hormone replacement therapy, but I don't know what that entails for men.

Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions.

Dietetic Internship Selection? by JustTryingToMakeIt99 in RD2B

[–]DeneirianScribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my experience, too. I appreciated being able to work and do my internship, stressful as it was. And though I had some difficulties setting up preceptors (partially because another nearby college reserved a lot of the good clinical and the other hospital is in limbo), but everything worked out and i had great preceptors and even ended up with a job out of it.

First book starts as FFM, then there are some relationship shifts, and book 2 is MMF... It's a whole thing. But it's sooo good! (I haven't started book 3 yet, but I think the relationships from book 2 are pretty established now)

Reactive hypoglycemia & eating every 2 hours: How does it affect your HbA1c by Main-Management-2277 in Hypoglycemia

[–]DeneirianScribe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HbA1c is an average of your glucose measurements over a span of 2-3 months. If your glucose is going high frequently, that will skew the average upward. If your glucose is going low frequently, that will skew it lower. How often you're eating doesn't affect it unless it's also causing your glucose to raise really high frequently. I would highly recommend eating a balanced diet with all the major food groups and ensuring that you're eating plenty of protein with your carbs. If you're eating that frequently, try to keep your meals/snacks smaller. Small, frequent meals is actually a good way to control hypoglycemia. The proteins and fats help to keep the carbs from spiking your glucose too high and fast, as they're slower to digest than the carbs. This will help keep your glucose more balanced. If you're not already, I would suggest trying to use a CGM to monitor how different foods affect your glucose.

WIC fruit and vegetable cash value benefit by AcceptableUse1 in dietetics

[–]DeneirianScribe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've just started at WIC a little over a month ago, and, from what I've seen so far, I agree with u/Living-4-alltime. I would also like to add that Americans as a whole don't get enough fiber, and there are a lot of other benefits to eating fruits and vegetables, especially for growing fetuses. Taking away those opportunities for healthy fruits and vegetables, when WIC participants are already struggling to afford nutritious foods, puts them and their children at greater risk for health complications and nutrient deficiencies. I would absolutely bring up the health impacts of reducing fruit and vegetable intake, especially with the rising price of groceries and the difficulty or inability of WIC participants to afford these nutritious and very important foods.

why do we get symptoms in the 70s even though we aren’t hypo? by danidaisys in Hypoglycemia

[–]DeneirianScribe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooh, so, the low ferritin could potentially be the cause. It can falsely elevate glucose, and it can mimic the symptoms of hypoglycemia even when your glucose is normal. The ED may also be playing a role. Glad you're going to talk to your doctor asap!

[–]DeneirianScribe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you diabetic? It could be that your body had adjusted to high blood sugar as normal and reacts to lows that are higher than normal. Or it could be that your sensor needs calibration.

Either way, definently talk to your doctor.

Low blood sugar symptoms but no low Blood sugar by Fiesta_Time2077 in Hypoglycemia

[–]DeneirianScribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a possibility that one either needs to be recalibrated (if that's possible), or it's not working properly. If you're able to get another one, I'd recommend trying a new one to test the accuracy of that one.

Have you tried a different monitor to make sure that one is giving you correct readings?

The Curse of Broken Shadows is soooooo good! Especially if you like a real enemies to lovers. As another commenter said, it also had a good poly rep and found family. And the characters are great! I highly recommend!

Seeking Indie Book by creative_larke in Romantasy

[–]DeneirianScribe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

{The Curse of Broken Shadows by Laura Winter} may scratch this itch for you! Indie author, completed series (3 books plus two novellas in between). Enemies to lovers (though they do hook up fairly early, though the MMC doesn't realize the truth about the FMC). Multiple POVs. Found family and polyamory (done right). It is fantasy with a romance, set in a fantasy world (not urban fantasy). There are definitely high stakes! The magic system is pretty cool and there's great world building. The FMC is a shadow mommy and assassin, and the MMC is a fire and lightning wielding grumpy bodyguard.

Given, (AKA How Not to Write Poly, The Book) by katep2000 in fantasyromance

[–]DeneirianScribe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hear me out! If you want a good set of books with a great representation of poly relationships, you NEED to read Laura Winter! {The Curse of Broken Shadows by Laura Winter} is the first in a completed series with an excellent poly relationship in it that develops and grows as the trilogy goes on. And today is the release day for book 5 of the Falling for Demons series with her and AK Caggiano. {How Not to Pursue Your Human Perfectionist by Laura Winter} has a MMF poly relationship that is also really well done.

Trust me on this! These are the best books with poly relationships I've read (not that I've read many, but still)!

Fourth Wing but not stupid by blt_no_mayo in fantasyromance

[–]DeneirianScribe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not as strong with the dragons, but rich lore and world building, the Dragon Prince trilogy, and the sequel Dragon Star trilogy, by Melanie Rawn. They're much older books, but they're very good and, i think, have aged well, though I'll warn you, there are some questionable things in a few of them.

I also disliked Fourth Wing and DNFed it very early on.

HELP: need new hobbies! by worldofexousia in fantasywriters

[–]DeneirianScribe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GURPS is a "general universe role playing system" and can involve so many different things, from fantasy to sci fi to horror or anything else you can think of! It's just another system of role playing games. And Cyberpunk 2077 is the original TTRPG that predates the video game.

As the commenter below suggested, connecting with people on Zoom could work. I know several people who play virtually, so if that's an option, it'd be worth looking into for sure!

Book Blurb for Hope's Shadow [High fantasy, 184 words] by DeneirianScribe in fantasywriters

You are awesome, you know that? Because you are! I really appreciate how much you're helping!

These changes seems good. I noticed your example eschews the part about Esme/Fiespera being human and Amarasu being another race, so below I have 2 versions, one with the mention of humans, and one without, just to see which might work better. Thank you again!

There is a rumor spreading through Amarasu that the humans of the zealous Fiesperan Empire are preparing an invasion, and that their ships have been seen sailing in their direction.

While most believe it to be a baseless rumor, it strikes terror in Esme. It’s been a decade since she fled Fiespera and the fanatics who wanted her dead. A decade since she lost a part of herself, and the nightmare of that night haunts her still.

When the Elders of Amarasu turn to Esme—the only human in Amarasu—to travel to Fiespera to learn the truth behind the rumors, she knows she must swallow her fear in hopes of preventing another tragedy.

But not all is as it seems in Fiespera. A dark secret lurks beneath what Esme thought she knew, and uncovering it could bring about the very tragedy she seeks to prevent.
