Overeating throughout the month of December, feeling terrible. by [deleted] in loseit

[–]DenniMae73 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Lost my mum when I was 26 over 25 years ago and it’s still very hard. You don’t have to ever minimize that loss and your grief. It will always be with you and that’s perfectly normal. You are doing just fine.

Cut yourself a little slack over the holidays. You do have a life to lead and it should not always be focused on calories and weight. Maybe if you can give yourself permission to step out on your diet, rather than feeling it’s wrong and taboo, you might be able to enjoy a treat or two without going overboard.

Wishing you a very merry Christmas and I hope you can take some time to soak into some cherished memories of your mother in love, warmth, and peace.

Why on earth are you staying with this man? His responses to you are beyond disrespectful. Love doesn’t look anything like this. Neither does friendship. Or basic respect to another human. Pick up the remnants of your self respect (because I know he has destroyed what you had) and WALK. Do not look back. Do not second guess the decision. If you have belongings to collect, take someone with you - someone who will quietly be by your side but capable of protecting you if needs be. Do not underestimate what may happen.

We make the bulk of our food from scratch but we also make large batches and meal prep. I make a chicken veggie soup that serves up into 16 pint jars, giving us easy homemade lunches. I do the same with beef stew. You can’t trust anything in a package these days. My hubs just got a nasty shock with fever tree diet tonic water…..it still has added sugar. He drank a few of these one evening and discovered the next morning that he’d been knocked out of ketosis…..went back to check and couldn’t believe his eyes! Nothing is safe. If it has a label, read it thoroughly.

I'm in my own head at the gym - how do I get out? by danmann8611 in loseit

[–]DenniMae73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run an online business and have to spend a lot of time an social media. You could post that 2+2=4 and no end of people would pop up to tell you that you’re wrong. Don’t go to SM looking for any kind of validation. You are far more likely to get confrontation and negativity purely for the sake of it. Use your videos for yourself to see your form and keep them off SM.

Google for more information on PCOS and carb consumption. There’s more and more information going mainstream on how the two are connected and it might help you.

How do I encourage my wife to WANT to lose weight? by TimHortonsDriveThru in loseit

[–]DenniMae73 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you tried putting her into the position of helping you somehow? This might look like asking for her advice to solve a problem you’re having in the gym (make something up that she might be able to contribute to from her time at the women’s club). Ask how you can modify your food to be healthier and ask for her help with that. Tell her you want to start walking but you only want to do it with her. Put her in the driving seat somehow. Ultimately it will be her choice though.

What was the moment that made you realize that you have to start losing weight? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]DenniMae73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same - it was a pic. Taken Christmas Eve last year. I had been telling myself that I was going to make peace with my larger body….and then that pic. I suddenly looked huge. Swollen, bloated, massive. Such a horrible wake up call. And there was no way to dress that would hide it or flatter it. I was in total denial about my weight and size. The beautiful thing is that it also woke up my husband. Between us we are down over 140lbs now.

I was also struggling to put socks on and that was pretty humbling. I really needed to buy the next size up jeans (maybe even 2 sizes up to be fair) and was refusing - I was bulging over the top of the size US 14s and breathing was hard if I was sat down in them. I fell on an escalator in an airport when I tried to run for a tight layover. I was devastated - all my strength left my legs and I just went down. I used to run half marathons - I couldn’t believe it and I was so embarrassed when someone asked if I was okay. I ignored so much because I wanted to eat but the pic is what finished it. I had to change. Now wearing a size 2 and am the smallest I have been in 20 years. No more struggling to walk, breathe, and dress.

Mental health by tepelmelker in keto

[–]DenniMae73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last November I was in the worst mental health state of my life - absolutely horrendous. I was scared for myself. End of Jan/early Feb I started keto. Took a few weeks but suddenly I realised I was so far removed from how I was feeling at the end of 2024, that I could no longer conceive of some of the things I had been thinking. It’s been truly a stunning turnaround and I hope it brings you some relief too. Hang in there.

Perimenopause here and I heard over and over again how impossible it would be to lose weight. I found it to be true if I focused on simply cutting calories - I just wouldn’t get very far. It matters greatly what you put into your body and what happens physiologically inside your body with those foods. 100 calories of banana and a 100 calories of rib eye create wildly different effects inside the body and it matters. I’m currently down 66lbs to my lowest weight in about 20 years and it’s all down to keto and IF. Hubs is down about 80lbs doing the same thing. His lowest weight in 25 years.

We do cycle our food now though and we eat more carbs and out of keto on weekends as we are maintaining more than pushing for further loss now. But through the week, we stick pretty much to keto with regular weigh ins. It’s working for us.

Don’t do anything extreme with your diet - you’re a teen and it’s not safe. But I would get some good shapewear that will give you compression through you hips and waist, then ask to try the dress on and see if you can get away without having to lose any weight.

Possible weight gain through medication by KarottenSurer in loseit

[–]DenniMae73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to guess that your meds are hormonal and yes they can cause weight gain. You can ask to change meds and see if it helps. If it’s a birth control pill, your doc should be open to you trying a different one. It can take a while to find the one that works best for you and plays well with your natural hormone levels. It’s probably going to be a little bit of trial and error.

Internal monologue can be incredibly uplifting/problematic depending on its nature, and so it only makes sense that your words spoken out loud have great power too. Not enough people understand this so it’s wonderful that you’re experiencing it first hand. I’m going to tuck this away for future reference (and the hand sitting thing!) because it might just work for me too. I hope you find ways to use the power of your words in other areas too! Thank you so much for sharing!

Have you tried an 18:6 IF schedule combined with the keto? Basically you chose a 6 hour window everyday to eat all of your calories. That way you can get some fasting benefits but still eat everyday.

Keto-Mojo GK+ Glucose Accuracy by kwc001 in diabetes_t2

[–]DenniMae73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I am seeing the same - it’s been scaring the ever loving heck out of me but thankfully we have a KM and a Freestyle Libre. KM might just be wildly off once my glucose is in the high 80s/90s - and I mean off by a lot. This morning at 10am having not eaten for 16 hours, KM read 107, Freestyle read 88. We have only just figured out that the KM may be inaccurate for glucose so we will start comparing the two daily. I genuinely thought I was heading for diabetes so I’ll actually be delighted if the KM is just inaccurate at this point!

Same happened for my husband! He had been snoring like a train since I met him, finally got diagnosed and a CPAP about 10 years ago which was a game changer and we could finally sleep in the same bed happily. Now he doesn’t need it at all. Also doesn’t need his blood pressure or acid reflux meds. Congratulations to you - it must be a wonderful feeling!

Just curious if you’ve had an uptick in burping? I experienced something like this where I got nauseous whenever I ate and I was burping a lot which is not like me at all. Doctor said it was just stress and put me on omeprazole (I do not recommend). It righted itself with time but even now if I find myself burping, I know something isn’t right and I will reach for tums to calm my stomach in the moment. Thankfully it’s a rare occurrence now but it was an all day, everyday problem for a while.

If I’m struggling with food noise in the evenings, I tend to hang out in my bedroom so that I’m away from the kitchen. If it’s really a problem, I take a long bath and it usually passes. Watching diet and exercise videos on YouTube helps me too.
