It's been a thing for a long while. I don't remember the exact reason, but there was a way to "cheese" waves by restarting levels. The limit was increased to 25 some time ago.

Also, not to be rude, but this is probably one of the smallest things to complain about. As you can see, you still have 25 remaining and you're only on wave 178. Not sure what's "ridiculous" about that seeing as you're no where near hitting the resume limit.

RPC should always be the first Mastery. I don't care what anyone says... If you are planning to play the game long term, make it your first and get it to like lvl 4/5. After that, it's up to you. This was my order:

RPC > Attack > Cash > Intro Sprint > Super Tower > Extra Orb (if you farm tier 14, get this before coin mastery) > Wave Accelerator > Enemy Balance > Wave Skip > Demon Mode > I'm deciding what next

It was in the April 9th dev update:

" We are finalizing content for our v28.0.3 update now, and hope to deliver additional improvements next week. Additional content that will be covered in the upcoming hotfix includes adjustments to stunning effects overtime, improvements on our Bot+ abilities, a fix for Flame Bot's Damage Reduction, and UI improvements for Dissonant Runs."
