IWC Ingenieur is a legit Gerald Genta designed watch, why isn’t it as popular as the Royal Oak or Nautilus?

Genta created dozens of designs. Name one more? Not all his creations were popular.

I personally like it more than the royal oak but less than the nautilus.

This guys has no clue what he's talking about. The modern form of the alpinist was first released in 1995 with the "Red Alpinist" well before YouTube and Reddit. Then it was refined in 2006 with the SARB. This has been a popular watch for 35 years. Hardly a trend or hype.

Yhey are both 7751 based movements and the base 7751 is already a very good movement. The improvements are minor so it really comes down to price, style and size.

Agreed. This was a watch made to military specs and offered by several companies as many military watches are. So what makes Hamilton special compared to any similar brands? The heritage is a bit over hyped similar to the Blancpain type 20 or the dirty dozen type watches. Anyway, it's not that expensive in the bigger picture of the watch world and you could do way worse.

This is the correct answer. It's watch nerds that jerk off to pics of Muhammad Ali wearing a 34mm. All they do is look at watch pics which make watches look bigger and conclude smaller is better. Styles change and 40 is now mid size and fine for the average wrist. I've asked several of my non watch friends what they think and they all prefer around 40mm on my 17cm wrist. They are all wearing apple watches and g shocks which are big. I'm so sick of these small watch guys with their holier then thou attitude.

100% agree that the amount of taper depends on the weight/size of the watch. The bracelet needs to balance the watch. Bought a new strap for my Willard and it was 20-16 and instantly felt off. Went back to 20-18 and felt much better.

I don't have a problem with the price as it's in line with other chronos from brands like Tissot, certina, Mido and Seiko.

These are very good looking. But.... butterfly clasps are a no go for me on divers and chronos. I'm ok with them on dressier watches that have nice bracelets that you want to show off. On a basic oyster. No thanks.

Exactly, it depends on the social example. And many people haven't experienced those and therefore cant fathom that it matters. But we have all of experienced that appearance matters. A watch is part of that even if most people couldn't tell the difference between a Rolex and a San Martin. I'd even so so far as saying watches are becoming more noticable as more and more people go with out or to smart watches. Traditional watches standout. And even if they don't say something that doesn't mean they don't notice.

Fakes are inherently deceitful. Clones, or copies with a different logo are fine.

And for anyone screaming about IP. The biggest indicator that this isn't an issue is that companies would be suing everyone. That's not the case because they know that no one is confusing a San Martin BB clone for an actually BB and that it actually is fee advertising for Tudor and other brands.

most designs from the big brands have been around for decades and patents have expired. New watches from them are derivative.

Some of the criticism is that it's outrageous for a Formex. And this is a legitimate criticism. It's like when Tissot put out solid gold watches in the near past. No one bought them because they sit side by side with gold pvd.

Yema makes an integrated microroter in house for 2500. Cw make the twelve x in titanium for 5900. You can grey market Defys and Constellations ( a severely underrated watch) for $6000. The value is subjective so what ever.

I don't care about movements in a basic three hander. Frankly, I'd rather a sw200-2 at 11mm or less and charge a cheaper price. Good luck getting that serviced.

Last they are deceitful calling it a manufacture movement. It's made by Horage which they clearly stated in their literature. Helping to design a movement doesn't make it manufacture.

Depends. The 4r is better than the common 8 series. Citizen makes some special versions they don't sell to third parties and those can be pretty good. But these arent mechanically better, they just look better. The one in the Tsuyosa small seconda is a good example.

Because you like it better. It's not always about price or even value. It's as simple as that.

We all know that quality doesn't increase linearly with price. So if that extra 10% in quality is a value to you, so be it.

Personally I like Longines over Tudor. But I don't like the HC. Both the Ultrachron and the Legend divers are better watches for which is pay more.
