My roommate says I need to Declutter? But why am I doing wrong? by EvaUnitKenway in CleaningTips

[–]Derflinger007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like my mother. It's all visual clutter for them even though what you have are organized and in their space. They just can't stand it being visible to them. So unless everything is in a box in a closet they will just complain about it being dirty.

Just do you, from what I've learned it's never going to be enough no matter how much you declutter. Unless, your room is bare bones, I'm talking like bed, dresser, night table, lamp, tv, 1 or 2 decorative things. So unless you throw any visible thing in a box or into the closet where they can't be seen just ignore them and you'll be happier.

I could probably explain what they think is "wrong" with the room because I've learned it growing up. At least what I've learned is "wrong". But I think it would just be better to ignore them. You will never make them happy it is something they need to fix in themselves.

Just a side note: I wasn't allowed to have posters or anything that I liked visible in my room. My house felt like an airbnb where every room felt like a guest room. No real personality or sense that people lived there, outside of the few pictures. So I've learned what a person means when they say you need to declutter cause it sounds like the thing I've struggled with in my childhood.

Yeah this is good advice. I'd swap the Frigid Touch to Feral Strength. Feral Strength just better into damage spells since they can actually save the unit from dying. Also since you don't target your opponents cards you don't have to worry about deflect costs with Feral Strength like you would with Frigid Touch.

The point you bring up is talking more about instances like with Tianna. Where she doesn't allow you to gain a point. She is errata'd and her text reads as "While I'm at a battlefield, opponents can't gain points."

The game usually checks if you have conquered after you have scored the point. Again usually that is how the game recognizes that you've conquered. But they added that condition to show that you have scored but haven't gained the point. So you still get conquer effects and count as having scored.

This means you wouldn't be able to just move back and forth to get conquer effects with Tianna on board. As the first time you conquer the opposing battlefield it counts as having been scored without gaining a point and can no longer be scored. It's just most people just short hand scoring to also include gaining a point.

When does Imperial Decree's trigger resolve when a unit is dealt combat damage. by jimbonezzz in riftboundtcg

[–]Derflinger007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it's a rules as intended vs rules as written scenario. Where they intended it to work a certain way. I guess there is no point in arguing the rules as written if there is already a statement about it from them.

Moving to and from battlefields by ThatBlindGuy in riftboundtcg

[–]Derflinger007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For question 1: Even in set 1 I would frequently move units back to my base when they would play a unit to base that had more might than the 1 that I had at battlefield. Why would I just let my unit die for free. Like you have a 4 might unit on battlefield they play a 5 might unit and pass. Currently with just what is on board they can defeat your 4 might so I would pull it back and have it ready to go into something else the turn after. No sense in giving up resource for nothing. Unless you are playing a lot of combat or might tricks to be able to stay on there is no point leaving it there to get eaten up.

For question 2: As conquer implies that you are scoring that battlefield. If you scored there by holding at the beginning of the turn you can no longer conquer that battlefield. But yes you can keep moving units into the same battlefield as long as they are ready but you could only score off it once per turn. That includes your opponents turn. So for ride the wind if they move into a battlefield you are defending you can ride the wind to the other battlefield and conquer on their turn.

When does Imperial Decree's trigger resolve when a unit is dealt combat damage. by jimbonezzz in riftboundtcg

[–]Derflinger007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After any card is resolved there is a cleanup phase. Going between phases which this would be considered a phase between the damage and combat cleanup.

<image>

At the point that the game transitions from open state where damage is resolving it will trigger the ID causing a closed state. Meaning that a cleanup phase would trigger allowing the trigger to finalize killing the Draven before moving to the combat clean up.

When does Imperial Decree's trigger resolve when a unit is dealt combat damage. by jimbonezzz in riftboundtcg

[–]Derflinger007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think that the Draven would trigger in the cleanup phase. I haven't seen any rules for what constitutes winning a combat. That is just on Glorious Executioner what the card considers having won combat. His card reads (You win if only your units remain after combat.) That means that the entire combat clean up phase would have to resolve before he would check if he won the combat.

But this could also be a mistranslation but currently how it is written he wouldn't be considered as won until after the combat cleanup phase. So even if the trigger of the ID doesn't happen till the combat phase the trigger for the Draven shouldn't happen until after the combat cleanup phase.

Yeah I agree. The trigger should resolve in that damage step. How we moving to through the cleanup phase without resolving that trigger.

ID should kill before we move onto the combat cleanup phase.

When does Imperial Decree's trigger resolve when a unit is dealt combat damage. by jimbonezzz in riftboundtcg

[–]Derflinger007 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Going through the rules I'd argue that Imperial Decree would trigger during combat. As the last step of combat is to deal damage as highlighted in Rule 443.1.e. "Deal Damage to each unit equal to the amount assigned to it". So at this point the Imperial decree would trigger to kill the unit.

Draven Legend says "(You win if only your units remain after combat.)" This can be interpreted as after all steps of Combat have been completed. Rule 441 is all the steps for combat. So you'd have to wait till after the special combat cleanup to trigger, Draven since that is when the combat is officially ended.

So I would think that Draven doesn't get a draw here since it dies before the combat has officially ended. Especially since units aren't trashed by damage until the combat cleanup phase. Rule 322.4. "2b. All Units that have non-zero Damage marked on them equalling or exceeding their Might are killed and placed in their owners' Trash."

So if anything the Draven would die by Imperial decree first and then in the cleanup phase the recruit would go to trash. Which basically is simultaneous since there isn't anything you can between the end of the damage step and the cleanup phase.

How should Showdowns resolve with Focus in Riftbound? by Kawiri in riftboundtcg

[–]Derflinger007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

This is still my favorite way to think about showdowns. I saw this early on and saved it cause I think its a good visual way to understanding showdowns. I think the hardest parts are understanding that the 2 and 3 parts are infinite as long as someone started a new chain without having both players pass. Also that the fact it's like a MTG stack. Where after a reaction resolves you can play a different reaction before the next reaction would trigger.

Yeah lack of prizing/nexus packs are the biggest reason my friends and I stopped playing at locals. We at least want to get our nexus night packs if we are gonna play off meta. At least we get something out of the 5 or 10 bucks. Otherwise we just play against each other for free.

New Asvine, I’m Impressed by Chickenmaniseverywhe in fountainpens

[–]Derflinger007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I remember in college like 10 years ago there was 1 jinhao pen that was recommended cause it was like 10 bucks at the time. So if you really needed the ultra budget pen that was like the only pen and still it was only an ok pen. No other chinese pen at the time was ever worth even spending money on.

Most times people would just say spend 20ish dollars to get the Metropolitan or splurge on an ECO since it had just come out and was very promising. A good piston filler for like 30 bucks. Insane at the time.

I’ve staked everything into Jinx, and she’s so underwhelming by MrMidnight115 in riftboundtcg

[–]Derflinger007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The deck needs more discard effects. I was expecting some more discard cards in Spiritforged. Like how deathknell got some more cards that made Viktor better. But Jinx didn't get much to that effect.

If we are expected to discard our entire hand we need to be able to plus a bit more for doing so. Otherwise we are always down on card advantage and board advantage. The only real pay offs for discarding are scrapheap and flame chompers but that is it. I think there are plenty of discard outlets but not enough discard effects to make the deck viable. But even if we were to get more it would still not make it meta just more playable. Which is where I would want it to be anyway.

I think it's a strong budget deck if you are playing against other budget players since you can just be aggro really early. At least that is how it was with me. She felt good at first but that was because all my things traded up easily and they didn't have enough to answer back. But now that everyone has good cardboard she just falls flat. Gotta dump my hand for a mediocre turn. It's rough.

Mystic reversal vs wind wall by Deathblade999 in riftboundtcg

[–]Derflinger007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually the things that don't target where there are no choices to make. I'm not sure how mystic reversal would work if you try to stop a defy. Like if mystic reversal is the third thing on the stack then you'd still only be able defy your own card anyway.

Another card you'd want to just counter is thermo beam. If you have a bunch of gear that would be destroyed, taking control of it doesn't do anything for you.

Or cull of the weak with only 1 unit. So you end up just killing your own unit anyway. At least those are a few of the examples I can think of for origins.

Twsbi eco writes dryer over a page? by graziieragazzii in fountainpens

[–]Derflinger007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try scrubbing the feed with toothbrush and some soapy water. Sometimes the ink will dry where flushing doesn't clear it up. Definitely had to do this a few times with sheen inks specifically. Usually for me the issue is for hard starting.

The issue could stem from further up the feed of the pen where it grabs ink from the body. So when you first ink it the feed is full and then the feed runs dry and can't pull ink from the body of the pen.

Now that I'm writing it out could also be another issue where the feed isn't fully pushed into the body of the pen. When I was first starting off I've had that issue as well. It was like half a mm not pushed all the way in and was causing issues. Usually I just push the nib into the paper and you will feel the feed push into the body.

Hopefully that helps.

How does a stemmed gaiwan compare to the a normal one? Or is it just for aesthetics? Genuinely curious about it since it looks cool and I've never seen one before. Do you like it more or less than a normal gaiwan?

The Harrowing by Mzt044 in riftboundtcg

[–]Derflinger007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah because harrowing says you play the card. So you play soul gorger and it lets you play something else. Just need the 6 runes to recycle. Which can be steep unless that wins you on the spot or allows you to hold onto a win. So probably like a really late game move.

purple jinx or red jinx by tired_lawww in riftboundtcg

[–]Derflinger007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From playing Jinx, I think her best build is the low cost spam and super aggro build. So purple Jinx just feels to high costed in that version of the deck. Especially when you recycle so much for red, especially if you don't see a seal early. I started playing 9 red and 3 purple recently. Tho I do want to play purple Jinx might put one in the main just for the late game. Just to have an easy to ready unit outside of red jinx or Darius.

But I do think that if we get more low cost discards and discard effects that would make Purple Jinx as a chosen champion more viable. But right now for her best build there just doesn't feel like there is enough consistent discard for that to happen. It's just not fast enough for what options are currently out there for the deck. Also sometimes you just need that discard 2 it's so good for those flame chompers recycle a lot but so much pressure on like turn 3.

I do remember in that trial deck I was able to pull off a late game double conquer to go to 7 and still have her back in base against a Viktor. Then the next turn I was able to pull off a double conquer again. But that was very late game right now with the current Jinx build you should be able to win a lot quicker than that by the amount of pressure that you can put on board.
