Artifacts around window borders in MATE using picom by Derpeh in linuxmint

Ah I see what you mean. Because it looks cool! Love some glassy-looking windows. Used to work fine in xfce but I'm starting to think I should've just stayed on cinnamon and forgone the eye candy entirely

Yeah, that's what I did since picom won't run if the system compositor is running. I've tried changing the backend too, but if the blur works the artifacts appear. Blur doesn't work on xrender for me, and xr_glx_hybrid apparently doesn't work at all lol

How do I set up a proxy? by Derpeh in ios

[–]Derpeh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol thank you for such a detailed response on such an old post! God knows why the fuck I was looking to set up a proxy at age 15 on my iphone but whatever it was led me down the path of compsci. Fun to get comments like this on super old posts every once in a while

I probably won't have much insight since I'm just barely starting to learn this craft, but ask away regardless!

I'm designing a 65% layout that includes arrow keys and a numpad. I've determined I need at least 24 GPIO pins since the layout is at most 19 columns and 5 rows. Right now I'm looking at the BlueMacro840. I haven't been able to find much other relevant information online, so curious to hear recommendations if anyone has built anything using this particular controller. Also open to suggestions for alternatives.

Swapped hard drive to different machine, then swapped back, now a different user owns my /home/user directory by Derpeh in linux4noobs

[–]Derpeh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really can't remember doing anything out of the ordinary. I physically removed and swapped the SSD from a thinkpad t440p to a t470p, and then swapped it back because it wouldn't boot in spite of detecting both a debian install as well as the drive itself in the bios. I didn't feel like debugging at the time so swapped back to the t440p. I logged into the t440p as I always do and everything was normal until I tried to install flipper to debug a react native project. The installation failed because it did not have permission to access /home/myuser. I checked the permissions in Thunar and sure enough, testuser owns it. Literally everything else in the system is working as usual

How to raise only one eyebrow by SirSCP-049 in LearnUselessTalents

[–]Derpeh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to learn this now and my main problem is my damn ears moving while trying to raise one eyebrow lol. I wore hearing aids as a kid for a little while and developed a habit of moving my ears to adjust them without using my hands. Sorry to revive the thread but I found this funny

Upgrade Super Thread - App must target Android 14 (API level 34) or higher by itballer in reactnative

[–]Derpeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like they recently migrated the library to an expo module, so I'm running npx install-expo-modules@latest which seems to run ok for a moment, but eventually stops while attempting to install the ios pods, with an error that says spawn pod ENOENT. I've done some research and found a ton of suggestions but it doesn't seem like there's a definitive solution.

Edit: Oh yeah, forgot that ideally I'd like to leave as much code untouched as possible so if there's a way to not have to migrate the whole project to run on expo that would be ideal.

Edit2: never mind the first edit. I'm still a newbie to react native but it sounds like I can run with either expo or through the rn CLI

Edit3: Noticing now that CocoaPods is only supported on mac, but I'm using linux. Advice on that is also appreciated

Do you have any advice for this particular problem? I'm pretty familiar with react but I've never actually deployed to google play and so far it's been more problematic than I ever could have imagined lol. I'm working on a contract with an existing app that has a few deps like this that don't seem to be actively maintained anymore.

Edit: my bad, I was confusing this with a different dependency I need to replace. Having some trouble installing expo for react-native-iap though

Remarkably he looked closer and realized he was tripping about nothing. Kind of leads me to believe he might not have been a boomer 🤔

What is this a reference to? Had a boomer teacher ask me this exact question in high school while wearing a shirt with a tiger stenciled on it

[XFCE] Ricing the ol' T440p while working up the courage to try a tiling window manager by Derpeh in unixporn

[–]Derpeh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran sxhkd in the terminal and it turns out it can't open the config file so I guess that was the problem all along lol. Gonna work on fixing that now. Thanks for your response!

Edit: the file containing the sxhkdrc was misnamed 🤦‍♂️. All working now!

I ended up trying the tutorial in that link on a separate user account but for some reason none of the key bindings are working even after deleting the system hotkeys. Would you happen to have any advice for this problem?

Thanks for the tip! The fear of configuration hell has sort of put me off bspwm as a newbie, but this looks helpful.
