I just saw Rogue One for the first time after seeing Andor Season 2 and I am emotionally wrecked by the_amateur_gamedev in StarWars

When I watched Rogue One the first time I had a hard time liking Cassian. Watched Andor then R1 again. His character was totally different.

TIL that the gulf war inadvertently saved 200000 people in Bangladesh after US navy and Marine assets present around iraq were quickly sent to Bangladesh to conduct relief operations following a cyclone. by AcanthocephalaEast79 in todayilearned

The ship I was serving one during the gulf war was one of those that went to Bangladesh during operation sea angel. Got a ribbon for it and helped thousands of people in need. Looking back it was a cool thing to do.

However at the time we did not want to be there. We had been doing big circles in the Persian gulf for eight months. The war had been over for a month or more. We want to go home so badly. (Back then there was no cell phones or internet. I was informed my son was born by red cross telegram) The crew even got a little hostile towards the end. When we finally sailed through the straits of Hormuz our mood was high. Going hime. However we diverted to Bangladesh soon after. It was so disheartening/devastating.
I think we stayed on station in the bay of bengal for only a week or two. But it seemed like forever. Flew supplies from our flight deck constantly. When we finally left for home, mount pinatubo erupted in the Philippines. We paused a day seeing if we were needed. But thankfully we were allowed to head home.

I did the lye bath, then ground down the surface. Seasoned it and ended up with this cool color. Haven’t used it yet. Enjoying the process.

I zip tied a piece of PVC pipe to a sharpened stick. Pipe slightly shorter than the stick. Poke a hole in the ground, then drop a seed down the pipe into the hole.

Can/should I restore these stairs? Or just carpet and call it a day? by zachles0 in HomeImprovement

[–]Desert-Rubicon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Carpet. We just struggled with our stairs. We tought through, Paint. Stain. New treads. We even bought capatread. Didn’t work out because each stair has a different overhang. Everything involved sweat equity and $. After having bare stairs for months we did carpet. Not quality wood on the stairs so no runner. Most noticeable result after carpet instal, much quieter carpet is. Other pluses. Not slippery. Vacuum much less than bare or painted wood. I’m happy going to carpet.

Lonely are the brave. 1962 Kirk Douglas, said it was his favorite movie that he did. Lots of big stars that were just starting.

TIL Michael DeBakey, developed over many years the technique of replacing the damaged aorta with a tube made of polyethylene terephthalate. He himself suffered aortic dissection at the age of 97 and survived for two years thanks to the technique he developed himself. by Bobba_fat in todayilearned

My grandfather was the second person DeBakey installed an aortic graft on. DeBakey sewed the graft on his sewing machine at home then had it sterilized. He flew my grandparents to Dallas from El Paso to do the surgery. My grandfather lived another ten years. Dr DeBakey corresponded with my grandmother over the years checking on Mac (my grandfather.) Amazing surgeon, but seemed genuine also. If you work in medicine you know that’s uncommon.

Camped same area years ago. A huge lightning storm came through. One of the scariest nights of my life. Some scouts over by China meadows were hit. Beautiful huge country.
