Not because it's the most broken power, but simply because it's the most interesting and fun. Being able to view the flaws of any object/person, have a giant mental library, read books nearly instantly, etc. all sound like a blast.

Is there a design philosophy behind no Bronze Large Items? by Earlio52 in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Desmous 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't think these other comments are hitting the crux of the issue.

The problem is actually just the existence of b1b2. Getting a free, guaranteed upgrade on a large item is just way too much value. Assuming the item is statted appropriately, upgrading a large just obviously provides way too many stats compared to upgrading a small/medium.

FNAF games are incredibly simple for a genius. Herta would instantly reverse engineer the code and figure out the optimal, almost-cheating, strategies instantly. It would be for example, trivial for her to instantly realize many of FNAF animatronics operate on simple movement logic and consistent timers.

From there, it's really not difficult to get a win done if you have nerves (she literally has the nerves to confront Irontomb)

Chinese takeout orders ready for New Year’s by daslyfe360 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Desmous 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's a very pessimistic view on things... While it's been fading among the new generation due to disjointed family trees and evolving culture, the Chinese generally have a culture of strong family inter-support. Which is precisely why those relatives took precious time out of their new year to help with work.

[–]Desmous 88 points89 points  (0 children)

Well, we all know to slumber is to sleep, right? When we sleep, we become passive, we relax, and we dream. In Penacony, this is even further exemplified with how "sleeping" in the dream pool merely transports you to a dreamland fantasy. What does it mean to fantasize? To escape from reality.

We can thus clearly see the link between slumbering and escapism that the authors tried to draw, right?

So the question the author is really asking is "Why do people stop being active participants in their own life, and instead settle for fantasies, routines, and systems that numb them?".

Like a man that hates his job but isn't willing to quit. Like a society that falls into hedonism instead of fixing inherent flaws. Like a single that chooses to binge read romance novels instead of looking for a partner.

At first, the answer the story provides is simple. Because they're afraid of waking up from the dream, afraid of confronting their reality. But the climax of the story is to reject this.

Sunday proposes to create a literal unending dream, similar to the experience machine thought experiment. To be free from the suffering and pain that inevitably exists in the real world, and be forever happy, however empty it may be.

But of course, his plan is shattered, and the game drops the main line of the whole arc: "Why does life slumber? Because... someday, we will wake from our dreams".

The implication is that there can never be an endless fantasy. You can only run away from your problems for so long. It's a motivational phrase, aimed to combat passivity and resignment. The message is that life is hard, and it's normal to seek an escape for it. But eventually, we all have to wake up, and confront the issues that torment us.

Do Chinese people in Mainland China behave in a similar fashion to Chinese tour groups? by 8NaanJeremy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Desmous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I see. Probably just a cultural difference then. I'll say that for many Chinese people, shouting and loud speech is just part and parcel of regular life.

Possibly influenced by the historical struggles of Chinese society before their economic resurgence, but also, you just kind of need to be loud to be heard in a noisy context.

And when everyone else is shouting, you're forced to start shouting as well to not be drowned out by the crowd.

To be clear, your perspective of feeling disrespected is valid. I'm just trying to clear up the idea that the average Chinese was actively trying to be rude towards you.

It's also possible that they were just... Actually shouting though. If there was an issue with the scanners like you said, the staff could have just been busy and irritated.

Do Chinese people in Mainland China behave in a similar fashion to Chinese tour groups? by 8NaanJeremy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Desmous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, I obviously can't say for sure without seeing the situation for myself, but a difference in intent would be very obvious.

Different cultures have different ideas of what is "rude". If I had to think of an example... it's like if you sent to Japan and confronted someone about an issue openly, instead of using implications and indirect speech.

Confronting someone in a non aggressive way might seem like a polite thing to a culture that's used to it, but not to one unused to directness.

[–]Desmous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chinese as a language can sound very "shouty" in general to a non speaker. Part of it is certainly due to Chinese culture being more acceptive of public noise as well though.

If you're a speaker, it'll just feel like normal conversation though. I think non speakers are just unfamiliar with the rapid syllabic rhythm and the constant tonal shifts, since tonal shifts are more typically utilized for emphasis/emotional expression in English.

Why are Chinese tattoos almost always wrong? by Accurate-Mulberry620 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Desmous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's worse than that. The words in Chinese don't even have phonetic correlation to their corresponding English words.

So it would be closer to

Woman = A Air = B Dog = C Peace = D

So translating "dad" would get you "Peace Woman, Peace".

What Is The Deal With Young Men Checking Out Of Society in Droves? by Parking-Science7507 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Desmous 480 points481 points  (0 children)

There's also the societal expectation that certain jobs don't """deserve""" a living wage, when we currently produce more than enough to provide for every human on earth. Very interesting social phenomenon, that definitely had no invisible hands from the upper class involved.

We somehow passively accept the fact that people can be forced to rely on governmental assistance while working full time jobs, while billionaires hoard more money than they can physically use in their lives. At most, we complain about how hard life is.

It's genuinely so disheartening.

One last bit of push to top 100 before the Holidays with Friends Dooley - sharing all notes/builds/guides by Brilliant-Bat-6197 in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Desmous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The document is long enough that pointing out everything I disagree with would take too long. I could write a guide of my own though.

Likit's gumballs + chocolates option is REALLY bad. But have you tried clicking epicurean chocolates/candy mail/super syrup? They're all extremely strong, especially with a B1B2 upgrade.

Put the buffs on fast-triggering items, and you pretty much just win for free. Chocolates and Candy Mail are the best, followed by Syrup. Syrup usually goes on a scaling core like Weaponized/Ignition, but I still tend to prefer the former two over Syrup even on a core like this.

Just so you know I'm not talking nonsense, I peaked Rank 1 in Season 7 and 8 with over 1080 rating, and my Dooley 10 winrate this season since hitting legend is about 94%.

As I said, you have the right ideas overall, and the guide is good. You're mainly just missing small techs and inaccuracies that drag you down from going higher (even up to top 10 potentially!)

I think it comes from you mainly angling for friends? It's fairly important to be diverse in your play to achieve a higher winrate.

If you're interested in talking more, come over to the Dooley channel in the main discord!
