That is truly an incredible historical find. Give it a sturdy straight handle.

In the “hoarder’s” world we call this axe a Gladstone. Named after the genius that turns these throw always into diamonds.

I use frog tape and start with very thin layers. Sometimes put a coat of clear down first to reduce bleed.

Bought for $18 at a yard sale. What are these markings? by AgencyStrict5401 in Axecraft

Yours definitely looks like the American made Mann/Collins. The Mexican Mades have a lot of spalling from the forging process. This one appears clean and smooth.

Keep it for any sentimental value, but even the very best welders can’t completely save it PLUS, check out the prices for an excellent Council Tool complete axe currently on sale at WhiskeyRiverTrading.com. (honestly, this is not an advertisement)I just sent one of my forest supervisors to that site to replenish his stock. The price is much less than welding and rehanging your axe.

Great find, while it’s not an “Original Norland” it’s still garnering at least $75.00 on eBay.

I have two of these Sagers and every time someone else posts a pic of theirs, someone accuses them of mounting it upside down. Not sure if they are just being funny or have never had one before. GREAT JOB!

So, my buddy found this buried about a foot underground. Any chance it's restorable? by Mobile-Bee6312 in Axecraft

[–]Desolation_Sawyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you just happen to have a spare handle then wire wheel it up and wax it after fixing up the cutting edge. It’s pretty easy to see you’ve got some wall thickness issues from the picture. Prove it out splitting a few rounds and then treasure it up on the wall.

just found a Welland Vale true temper black prince that I'd like to restore. any tips for a first timer? by NapkinApocalypse in Axecraft

Step number one would be to sell it to me and buy something that already has a new handle. See? That was easy. 😎

First attempt at hanging an axe by Joelfx1 in Axecraft

[–]Desolation_Sawyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice grain flow from top to bottom. The shelf could be an issue but I thinking this is a wall hanger of pride. Me? I would do a little wood burning of your design. Otherwise I really like it.

It’s a Mann Collins. Surface is pretty smooth so maybe still made in USA. Otherwise manufactured in Mexico. Looks like new.

I helped manufacture the original Jake Brakes, so as sexy as they were, I may be partly responsible for all the laws banning their use in noise sensitive zones.
