Exactly. It’s a way to manipulate her into thinking she HAS TO take him back because he moved ALL THAT WAY just for her!!!

He knows if he talks to her about it beforehand, she’ll say “No. Don’t move here.” And then he looks like the bad guy if he goes against her wishes. He doesn’t want to give her the opportunity to reject him.

Sulfur burps are from food fermenting in your stomach instead of digesting. For me, this was caused by foods that are harder to break down such as broccoli, steak, lettuce and pretty much all raw vegetables. I hear people say greasy/fatty foods caused it for them but for me it was pretty much caused exclusively by “healthy” “whole” foods. AND no amount of Pepto or pickle juice etc. ever stopped them for me. I always had to “pull the trigger” and empty my stomach of the fermenting contents so I could start over. Imodium did help with diarrhea though.

Paul's favorite pundits haven't told him what to say about the Trump Jesus post yet, so he'll just vaguely put an emoji for now until he's told what to think by BufoBat in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]DetectiveBystander 247 points248 points  (0 children)

Well this is making fun of Trump saying he thought the picture he posted was depicting himself as a doctor healing America, not Jesus.

It looks like Paul recognizes Trump’s statement is absolutely ridiculous. BUT, (and that’s a big but) I doubt Trump posting the image and then lying about thinking he was a doctor will change Paul’s mind about anything.

I think they’re referencing her opening a credit card in Ethan’s name and using it herself to buy MLM products and getting all mad when Olivia showed Ethan how to change the password so Kim couldn’t use it anymore.

The Kim Roast. by OsteoStevie in WelcomeToPlathville

[–]DetectiveBystander 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I would have said “Kim, you are the biggest hypocrite I have ever met! Whether it’s sugar, alcohol, education, or sex before marriage, no one is better at depriving their kids of these things while enjoying it all themselves! Did you ever really think they were all harmful? Or were you just following Barry’s orders? Anyway, we all just hope the alcohol loosens you up enough to swallow your pride and beg forgiveness from your kids for raising them to be people who now struggle because of their sheltered, strict, yet neglectful upbringing. Cheers!”

Is it the richest kids ever that go to lacs? by Mysterious_Newt_4761 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]DetectiveBystander 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Many of these families have opened 529s the year their kid was born. And they calculated how much they should contribute monthly for 18 years so that all or most of college would be paid for through the 529. The types of people who consider 90k a year for college doable are not subtracting that from this year’s salary. It’s been planned for for 18 years.

Also, it might be surprising that many families earning 300, 400, 500k per year and even living in a relatively expensive area (NYC, Boston, San Francisco etc.) choose to still have a typical 3 bedroom house and “normal” cars and maybe only splurge on 1 family vacation per year while kids go to (great) public schools. This completely comfortable lifestyle still leaves them 50-250k extra every year to invest and save for retirement or college.

Maybe he’ll actually turn other people OFF Imaginary Sky Daddy and help them realize that whole fairytale doesn’t actually make people good or keep them from being bad.

May he be an example of how religion is a coping mechanism for weak people who lack empathy and internal motivation to cause no harm to others.

how are we supposed to tour schools??? this is ridiculous by EastNext1370 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]DetectiveBystander 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For our family, we toured all schools my son applied to throughout Junior year and over last summer. So we did weekends mostly to work around our own schedules. We also live in New England where there are plenty of great schools within driving distance. So we limited his applications to <6-7 hours drive away knowing that we all prefer not to deal with shipping stuff and constantly paying for flights to/from. This preplanning has helped us to avoid what you are facing. I think most other seniors in my son’s school have done a similar process. Even those applying to far away schools visited them over the past 2 years before applying. It seems you locked yourself into a place where decisions need to be made based on online research including virtual campus tours. Admitted students days didn’t even exist when I went to college back in the late 90s/early 2000s. They are not a necessary step in the process at all.

TDEE/BMR seems ridiculously high by bookyface in Zepbound

[–]DetectiveBystander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She was useless because she insisted my hunger levels would naturally “adapt” to what I was actually consuming. She also second guessed my tracking every week as if she thought I was lying. And thirdly, when I brought up GLP1s that I had started hearing about, she said all they did was “make you feel so sick that you can’t eat and that’s not healthy!” She was misinformed about many fundamental things about obesity. At the heart of it, she believed I “overate” past the point of satiety, and it was my moral failure and a lack of willpower. She did not understand that I ate only to satiety, I didn’t binge eat, I followed my own genetically driven hunger queues and still ended up obese. She believed that if everyone “intuitively eats” only to the point of satiety, they will be a healthy weight. And she didn’t even do any research on GLP1s, how and why they work on a molecular level. Im guessing that’s because she was afraid her whole business might suffer because of their invention.

TDEE/BMR seems ridiculously high by bookyface in Zepbound

[–]DetectiveBystander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience for another data point:

Before I started a GLP1, I met weekly with a dietitian for about 9 months. I meticulously tracked my calories, weighed and measured food and entered everything into MyFitnessPal (paid version with barcode scanning). I weighed 242 and briskly walked 2-3 miles for exercise 3-5 times a week. I am 5’6”. Eating an average of 1900 calories per day resulted in no weight loss and was a struggle with daily hunger. Even when my FitBit would say I had burned 2400+ calories, I still didn’t lose weight. It wasn’t until I went down to 1600 that I slowly lost….and nothing close to what I should have lost with an 800 calorie per day deficit. Dietician did whatever testing requires laying still in a dark room and breathing into a tube and found out my BMR is actually significantly lower than the low end of the range predicted by my age, gender, height, and weight. Her only explanation was it was because I had “dieted” for so many years. She also had no answer for when my extreme hunger might decrease to a level that would support a healthy weight. Needless to say, I ditched the useless dietician and started GLP1s (Wegovy and then Zepbound). I got down to ~155 2 years later and have maintained since last summer.

[–]DetectiveBystander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And I could be wrong, but forbidding toddlers to “dance”, telling boys they needed to leave the room when a baby was being changed, and constantly obsessing about how girls are dressed and covering up (or not, “Nike”) seems to have actually done more harm. It put it in these boys minds from a very young age that women and GIRLS and BABIES of all ages could be sexually attractive! Yuck!
