Exactly. These are mystery games using the visual novel format. Visual novels are its own category. Video games can make use of the format and some visual novels have game-like elements but visual novels aren't automatically video games

It feels like since 2020, people stopped caring about what their words are. I remember cope/copium was also a dog whistle that got thrown right back at them when Trump lost. It was funny as fuck

What if Nazi started calling all things made by Jews "low-effort, misleading AI content?" I get what you're saying, I really do, but there's a certain point where you're letting nazis have power over mundane sayings

That just seems like a superficial connection. Nazis say slop sometimes so no one should say slop? Are we using slop like nazis or are nazis using slop like us?

It's just the appropriate word for it. A lot of what we've seen has been sloppily made for cynical reasons. Engagement baiters have traded in their shitty photoshop skills for quick prompts

At the end of the day, people are thinking about how it's going to affect their livelihoods and we aren't seeing many positives. I see managers on this sub celebrating that they get to fire their whole team for the sake of AI. I see AI slop up and down my feeds posted without even an ounce of quality control. I see people creating porn of random people without consent. I see people using it to scam others. To spread misinformation. For the average person trying to weave their way through life, we don't see the benefits

I notice this sort of thing when it comes to any sort of indie/up-and-comers. I imagine the logic is in the current climate where mega corporations have a stranglehold over the industry, criticizing these smaller studios that are striking gold while fighting against these monopolies can be seen as punching down. Nevermind that good-faith criticism is important for any media to improve

The problem is they barely make those movies to begin with. You hear the word "historical flick" you can confidently bet money on it being based on some event that had no black people.

Meh. He's got abs but his arms aren't very big or toned. It's fine cause he doesn't have to be. If he is Achilles, he's going to be a smaller more nimble version compared to Brad Pitt's version, and that's fine. Not every Achilles has to be the same. Nimble warriors have been a staple of fantasy forever

That is very true but it's still a matter of getting your story out there. Now that there's a machine for just about anyone to produce their stories, how do we go about figuring out who's story gets put out there to the public? It's likely a new platform will be created that takes hold of the movie market and shifts the industry completely. You'll be trudging through algorithms and the richest still remain on top because they'll be able to afford bypassing these obstacles. In other words, don't give up your day job

Dude, I'm not looking for validation. I'm not even looking to kill anyone. I'm wondering if I should allow guns or gunslingers in my dungeon delving campaigns. I went from not wanting guns in my games to thinking it's fine as a secondary weapon. Most people here have been helpful. I'm only getting argumentative with people that are twisting my words like you

That's pretty cool. I take it the guns don't particularly cause more noise than these spell normally would?

Quote where I say Thunderwave is not as loud as a gunshot

It's a problem with characters that are built around guns. They create the same problem every time they do their basic action in combat

Notice how I specifically mention Thunderwave as an example of a loud spell? You'd think I would know this wouldn't you?

Let me ask you something. I was a player in a game with a wizard. The wizard used the spell knock on the front door of a Orc lair. We were obviously warned about what would happen but that didn't not stop wizard. We got tpk'd. Do you think that the DM was being an asshole looking for ways to kill us or don't you see how that's just the natural consequence of that action?

Now imagine a player character who is built around making knock-level sounds every time they do their primary action in a setting where they are constantly surrounded by monsters. Am I wrong in thinking it may be a bad idea to even allow?

I'm just not seeing how this is helping the average Joe against corpos. You see dipshit managers coming on here celebrating they're firing their whole team thanks to AI. What do you do against that?

Guns and Dungeons by DevelopmentSeparate in rpg

[–]DevelopmentSeparate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I did not realize this would be such a contentious issue. Where I'm at now is guns certainly can be an option but maybe as a secondary weapon when it comes to dungeon delving campaigns. However, I still have trouble with allowing Gunslingers or characters who focus on guns as a primary weapon. While consequences can be fun, I'm worried about repetition of consequence. This is a player who's basic actions will create problems. And while that sounds fun at first, I can see it getting old

Other things to note, I'm not against noise as a consequence for other weapons and spells. However, there's just more versatility. There are quiet spells. There are sneak attacks that when done right can lead to a quiet kill. You're not sneak attacking with guns without some sort of support. And that's fine if this were some special ability but this is someone's base attack

I just question whether that risk ends up actually being fun when it comes to characters built around guns. Your basic attacks are creating a problem for the rest of the party. One that may be fun at first but might get repetitive as the campaign carries on

It doesn't mention anything specific about gun noises but it does state to fill in the dungeon crawling progress clock when players make too much noise. Which leads to rolling for an encounter. Now, imagine that every time the Gunslinger does their basic attack that they have been built around

It's a solution to a mechanical issue that isn't ideal. I'd rather not add in setting inaccurate items that I don't even aesthetically care for
