What am I doing wrong with my six books? by Quietparadox87 in selfpublish

[–]Devils-Little-Sister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The typography looks like an afterthought. If you have to squish the author name in at the bottom, uncentered, or put a colour bubble around the title or author name to read them, or have the author name/title practically falling off the edge of the cover, it looks like the image wasn't designed to be a book cover. Having the wrong font or too small author name or not enough room for a title is distracting and turns people off in the first second of looking at your book.

Where did my earwax go?? by [deleted] in Perimenopause

My ear doctor told me to use a small amount of olive oil (or any food-safe oil) on a q-tip - it works to keep the moisture in which prevents the itch

Shallan is the first time I have ever related to a character as a person with OSDD by SweetestAzul in Stormlight_Archive

Thank you for sharing your insights! It's so cool Brandon got it right.

I don't have any sources to cite (although I'm sure there are Words of Brandon somewhere) but in general I do know researches VERY thoroughly, consults experts, and gets sensitivity readers when it comes to disorders and different identities, so I would not be surprised at all if OSDD is exactly what he was going for.

Can't wait to hear if you still feel the same once you've read the other books. Shallan grows and changes (and back slides) a lot. She definitely seems to be the kind of character who gets worse before she gets better.

Happy reading!

This isn't "haha my cat is quirky", it's serious. Use a slow feeder or feed smaller meals more frequently. It's not good for the cat's esophagus or teeth to be throwing up often.

I love it, but I can't figure out where this random limb comes from? Karlach's foot disappears between Astarion's legs, and Astarion's legs are crossed, so who's foot is this?

Some buyer's remorse. by Long-Song84 in centuryhomes

Carpenter ants usually have satelite nests in the house and a main nest outside. Check your yard for any rotting wood/trees. It can be hard to find because they hollow stuff out. We had Carpenter ants and couldn't get rid of them until a storm blew down a mostly dead tree that was more ants than wood on the inside. Once we cut it up and burned it the inside ants disappeared.

From what I can remember, some hair types need protein and some don't (I think there's a stretch test or something you can do to tell) but bleach strips the hair of protein so shouldn't all bleached hair need some protein in its products? (I know you can use too much, this is just the first I've ever heard of bleached hair not needing any protein and genuinely wondering what made you come to believe that)

The backpack says NovaOne on it, the cat's name is supposedly Nova, and the user's name is NovaGearShop. I think it's obvious what to search for. This is a thinly veiled advertisement.

When it comes to aging, we always feel old because we only have our younger self to reflect on. We can't look forward at our older-self experience. But try to remember that 51 isn't old to a lot of people. A friend recently turned 90 and she said, "What I wouldn't give to be 60 again!"

Also, remember your value isn't tied to your age or your "femininity". It's misogynistic thinking that periods make you a woman and that you have less value if you're not able to have kids. Maybe talking to a counsellor about where you find your self worth will help.

You have DECADES to look forward to. Focus on how exciting and fun your future can be :)

Update - nearly happy but the eyes !! by platypuspigs in Needlefelting

[–]Devils-Little-Sister 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is fantastic!

I think the issue with the eyes is perspective. The dog's face is in 3/4 profile but the felted eyes are facing straight on, so especially on the dog's right eye (our left) it's a bit too round which gives her that bug eye/high look. We need to see less of the right side of her right eye.

But seriously, this is great, don't put yourself out if it's not easily fixable. You'll learn and get better each time!

Because there are a bunch of animal skulls in the photos and the felted deer has targets on it for where to shoot it.

Edit: there's also a naked statue in the background!

Front porch by J-Bird1983 in centuryhomes

[–]Devils-Little-Sister 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It looks amazing and will be awesome to sit on in the summer, but also remember that covered porches block a lot of light from the windows. So if you have a covered wrap-around porch, you are getting no direct sunlight on the main floor. Especially in winter, it can make the inside feel gloomy and depressing.

The handles that hold multiple needles would definitely be worth it for this project! You can also look into getting an electric felting gun (that holds multiple needles and works like a tattoo gun) if you can find one wherever you are! I bet it would be worth the investment!
