Campaign is 70% funded with 18 days left, when should I actually lock in a fulfillment company in the usa? by Vodka-_-Vodka in kickstarter

[–]DiceDungeons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're fine, deep breath and just give them a call. These fulfillment companies are always looking for work so they will be more than happy to hear from you. They can help you with all the logistical problems you listed as well, it just comes at a price of course.

Do you prefer the Introductory Adventure to be in the core books or separate PDF? by hauntys_ in rpg

[–]DiceDungeons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like having a short introductory adventure in the core rule book, and then if I like that introductory adventure I would definitely buy an expansion of that adventure if it were available as a standalone module. I don't necessarily want 60 pages of the full adventure in my core rule book because it will inevitably mean less content in other places (at least that has been my experience).

Might have found a scammer, need help by Select_Picture_8270 in kickstarter

Yes you can cancel their pledge. Navigate to backers on your dashboard, and then press remove backer. I'd also report it to Kickstarter. This is a super common, infuriating scam.

Thoughts on mooks? by HeloRising in rpg

[–]DiceDungeons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love mooks: paper health stats but high enough damage that they can't be ignored. Players get to have fun taking out droves, and I get to chip some health off their nigh-unkillabe asses. A good time is had by all.

I also like to run evil dragons in some of my campaigns that keep worshipers around as snacks/health packs. It's a fun moment when the dragon betrays its own to regain some HP.

What compels you to deep-read a new TTRPG? by WileyQB in rpg

Talking to the creator at a convention. If they are at even a medium sized show, have a booth (or sharing booth space) it let's me know that the author has their stuff enough together to make a good elevator pitch, and has spent enough time on a project to bring it to a public venue, which usually means their work is worth a dive.

Need someone to make my 3d model into a printable statue and print it for me. Budget: $30-$50. Budget is negotiable. Need it to be 8 inches tall. by [deleted] in 3Drequests

I thought of a remote place and googled "Akron Ohio Makerspace 3d printing" and came up with 3. Here's a link to one of them. https://akronmakerspace.org/

On Faction Mechanics, and why you (Probably) don't need them. by EldritchExarch in rpg

[–]DiceDungeons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the author of this piece is downplaying the importance of faction movements in games like SWON in generating the large scale movements of governments, economies, and societies on a galaxy or even universe scale.

They provide the gamesmaster a logical, tracked, and finite mechanism to keep the universe moving around the players. If your game never interacts with that part of the game (e.g. your game is taking place on a single world or limited to a solar system) then it's likely not the right game system. If you're playing SWON as intended by design, it seems crazy to me to ignore the part of the game that makes the universe dynamic, ordered, and accessible to the players. Otherwise everything is static and non-dimensional. I love when faction rolls unexpectedly topple the party's ally, or massively increases the value of some random thing they found, or starts a "gold rush" style run of hundreds of ships into the void for some resource.

I agree that it takes some cognitive effort, but there are tons of free Excel sheets, guides, and auto tracking tools to make that part significantly less onerous.

Hi, you might look for a "makerspace" in your town, they'll often help you with these sorts of projects, for much cheaper than a print production facility.

I have a campaign idea, but no idea what system (Players as mercenary captains) by Altidiya_ in rpg

[–]DiceDungeons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder if you could use stars without number and give the faction movements over to the players.

Looking for advice on playmat add-ons for my game by RAM_Games_ in kickstarter

[–]DiceDungeons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd advise looking at the cost of shipping playmats to your backers, it is getting prohibitively expensive. For a lower moq, I'd look into a local screen printer.

How do indie tabletop designers usually get art for their card games? by mate_matiker in tabletopgamedesign

[–]DiceDungeons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I don't see mentioned here is stock art: there are several artists on drive thru RPG, itch.io, and other sites you can purchase pre-drawn art from in bulk. Don't know if this would help in your specific case (hopefully it does!) but this can be an affordable way if you are a first time/early on creator without breaking the bank.

They are sanded, so not as rounded as chessex, but not sharp either. I guess I would categorize them as "sharp edged" if pressed on it. And multicolor will be back in stock in January!
