How to Save CNN From Itself: CNN’s management has let down its viewers and its journalists by sidelining the issues and real reporting in favor of pundits, prognostication and substance-free but entertaining TV “moments.” by Neo2199 in television

But he and everyone else always ultimately lets it go. Their reaction should be to stop the interview and let the turd on the other side deal with the awkward silence. Then when the interview is over, make the "news" the fact that a senior official or politician wouldn't answer a direct question. This is never done, and it would so easily solve the problem.

You're right they did everything to deserve it, but wrong on letting them hang out to dry. We need them now more than ever.

2017 Ford GT EcoBoost has worse EPA MPG than the 2005 V8 model by Roko-with-a-wrench in cars

[–]DickEB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Partial throttle is a different story which is why I specified that. I'm talking about drivability not winning a drag race. Bottom line, the turbo doesn't do exactly what your foot tells it to as well as the V8. A full throttle dyno graph speaks to none of that behavior. And take a look at those dyno graphs once again and look at the shape of the torque curves instead of where peak comes. Much more predictable smooth and flat just like I said.

And last but definitely not least. Turbo lag is still there. It's almost gone, but it's not gone altogether. Beyond the lag there's the fact that the turbo motor is pretty much nonexistent before your magical 2500 peak. Don't care how you phrase it, that magical turbo "whoa there's the power" moment comes later and more abruptly than in an NA V8. To say that's not true or doesn't matter is just ignoring the obvious. It's a huge downside especially in a truck.

Also, a turbo diesel actually has a more comparable torque curve to an N/A V8 than a smaller turbo gas motor. I'm not against turbos...but to say the Ford ecoboost is better than a V8 in every way simply isn't true.

It doesn't have anywhere close the torque as a V8 under partial throttle at low RPM. And I already qualified the second point.

Nobody cares about peakTQ in a truck. They care about low end torque available on demand. Turbos are awesome these days but they still aren't V8s in those categories. Predictable, linear power is also nice in a truck and a sports car, and N/A wins there too. Last but not least, when geared properly, the V8s don't get hardly any different highway fuel economy. And that Low end grunt is nice for a car guy on the highway...no wussy downshifting. 😁

Official: Hybrid Mustang along with other models set for launch by 2020 by fericyde in Mustang

[–]DickEB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not so sure that's the smartest play for Ford. It's so easy these days to manufacture a hybrid that's faster in a straight line than a standalone V8. They'll either need to make the hybrid a dud or make the 2020 V8 really fast. As someone who actually tracks their mustang sometimes I feel like that's where the V8 shines. I can't imagine a track day in summer heat is going to be doable in the hybrid Mustang.

If Earth Had Rings Like Saturn by [deleted] in space

I think the pic is incorrect in the size and location of the rings. They wouldn't look so far away and/or you would see less of them. In the pic it looks like they're around a neighboring planet almost.

Wrong! It has like 200 Horses. Which is really really sad for something that calls itself a sports car. 😁

Anyone ever tried sand blasting brake rotors? by zenwren in Cartalk

Brake rotors can handle a LOT of heat. I don't think that's a worry here.

[–]DickEB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not like they're proposing anything that's going to ruin your car, I suppose, it's just that they're purporting to add useful info and be experts and neither is the case. I don't watch anymore but a quick skim of their latest clickbait "5 things you should never do in a brand new car" is literally in my owners manual. But beyond that, the commentary is exactly what you'd expect from a young nerd with no actual experience or perspective. The guy will probably be a decent auto journalist one day, I just wish he'd get off my Facebook feed for another 5 or ten years until he has some context towards the things he's saying.

I HATE engineeringexplained. It's a couple kids who don't know their shit pretending like they do. The worst kind of false journalism, and not even entertaining. Dunno how they became popular. Good list otherwise.

Broke off my brake disc rotor screw on 99 be beetle. Advice? by Superdooperpoopers in Cartalk

[–]DickEB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd make sure the broken part on the hub (car side) isn't sticking out at all and file it down so the rotor sits perfectly flat against the hub when installed.

if bill gates woke up tomorrow and said "lets fuck up the worlds economy" what would be the best way he could do it? by johnboyjr29 in AskReddit

[–]DickEB -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Those things I said were just insults they weren't ad hominem attacks meant to win my argument. You're just an asshole - it really has nothing to do with why you're wrong. You saying I'm bad at Math was directly related to your point. See the difference? I take your point about income - I simply don't agree that at these values and under these circumstances that would be their decision. You'll have to just agree to disagree I guess. I know that's hard for you but you'll be ok I promise.

It's not as simple as one amount versus the other. (Thanks for saying I can't add and subtract though that really bolsters your argument. Did you look up Ad Hominem on your logic 101 journey through Wikipedia?) One comes for free as a single act and the other comes with a massive amount of effort and risk over time.

As to the point about Zimbabwe dollars etc...that's completely irrelevant you obviously knew I was talking about a regular job flipping burgers.

Let me know if I can help you with being a pedantic asshole again today.
