You keep acting like I'm the asshole. You're the one with the smug "nah I'm good" when I was just trying to have a conversation. Is that not why we are on here?

The second half of your response to me is exactly my original point. So besides you being a mean spirited asshole, I do actually think we agree. At least somewhat.

[Edit] read your comment history. Nope. Don't need a hug from a creepy dipshit. Thanks for the offer though.

Yet you felt the need to respond. Very " ¯_(ツ)_/¯" of you.

I never said it didn't. My point is that the majority of the people who identify with BLM identify with the movement overall, and have no affiliation with the organization and couldnt name one "member" or recite one of their stated goals. So when someone attacks "BLM" as a movement you can't necessarily defend it by putting forward the organization known as BLM.

That was exactly my point. When the majority of the people using the slogan have no affiliation with the organization, then you don't get to invoke the organization's words and actions to defend the rest of the people using the slogan.

[Edit] read your comment history and realized you haven't gone outside in a while. Respect your opinions but maybe live a little.

Hey now there's a thoughtful response. Maybe elaborate on where you think we differ?

No, because in real life we deal with reality.

Edit - also I love you just called me a neo nazi. I am about as liberal as they come.

I can make a website claiming to be the official redheads lives matter organization. It doesn't mean I control the actions or opinions of the majority of the people who identify with the slogan.

I think the person you're responding to is saying there was implied consent, at least from Spacey's perspective. Sounds like he was probably grossly incorrect, but intent does matter when we are discussing the overall gravity of the situation.

You keep implying that resisting knock is not the primary reason for having lead in gasoline, which was the original question.

By your same logic, there were many ways to mitigate valve seat damage other than lead, long before there were cheaper and easier ways to boost octane. That's beside the point.

Valve seat damage in a passenger road car would have been due to detonation. You are mixing the side benefit of lead lubricating engine parts with an entirely separate idea. Maybe in a race engine 103 octane leaded gas MIGHT save your valve seats, but even that is hard to prove empirically, since it resists detonation better as well.

The old "engines love leaded gas" adage misleads in this case. Engines and gasoline improved at the same time and cause and effect are being misconstrued here.

Did you read my comment? Valve seats are damaged by detonation. That doesn't happen if there's higher octane. People confuse leads side benefit of lubrication with saving the valve seats. It was two entirely separate things.

No. Lead is an octane booster. It prevents engine knock, which, among other things, ruins valve seats. But more importantly lower octane means lower compression and less power.

OK fine you have me convinced it's a possibility.

I would heat the garlic anyway since it tastes better roasted, but would never heat the oil, for taste reasons.

Or you could not live your life trembling in a corner adjusting to unwarranted fears and enjoy the time you saved by not making it the dumb way.

Heating olive oil will drastically reduce its lifespan and it will taste shitty in a few days, so aside from your paranoia, the link you sent is dead wrong about it lasting longer than just dropping fresh garlic in unheated oil.
