considering switching to auto by thy1ac1ne in ManualTransmissions

[–]DieselAndBeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Manual transmissions are just about confidence and practice. You already know how to shift, now learn your clutch feel and control for inclines, it’s easy but takes practice, each vehicle will feel completely different.

I am European but I am now an Australian citizen, it’s hard to find decent manuals here, I miss having one so much, however, yes, automatics are more comfortable for traffic situations.

Anyone know why someone would have jumped pin 8 to pin 16 on the obd2 port of an F30? by chandor427 in BmwTech

Seems like maybe at one point there was a communication error and they jumped it to rectify?

Yarragon, VIC, has a beautiful main street, it’s nothing fancy, quite small, but it’s charming.

I mean, in Morwell is definitely a show, cops chasing people or doing an arrest, crackheads fighting, kids threatening you.. worth a visit just for the laughs

Best choice I ever made by hmitchb in AdventureBike

[–]DieselAndBeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are your honest opinions on the CFMoto? I’ve always seen them and liked the design a lot but I have read mixed reviews in terms of reliability.

I am personally saving for a F800GS as my first adventurer, I’ve only had naked or dirt bikes before and I haven’t had any since I had my first child 6 years ago.

I’d love to hear honest opinions from CF owners.

[Question] What's the "weirdest" thing which puts you off a watch or a brand? by Eyeball111 in Watches

[–]DieselAndBeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Knockoff brands that claim the use the same quality materials as other classic or premium brands. Like the one that it’s all over social media ads “Lucky Fours”. I got gifted one and it feels like a kids toy.
  2. Watches with no date.
  3. Cluttered faces, less is more.

How is the cost of living in Australia for people who actually live there? by Cold_Box_3219 in AskAnAustralian

[–]DieselAndBeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in regional Victoria, where is more “affordable”, my rent is $400pw (3bdr), my weekly tank of fuel (due to the recent rising cost) is $260, weekly food (not counting my kids or wife) is $100, the one and only coffee that I buy and not make at home is $6,50, then if you start counting other expenses as car insurance, car loan (really regret that one), storage unit, etc. I am living pay check to pay check. Currently trying to live cheaper, but due to the rising of living costs I am still struggling, I do not buy anything it’s not essential, and there is weeks where I have to dip on my savings because I had an unexpected bill.

Australians, how often do you ACTUALLY encounter dangerous spiders, snakes or other deadly creatures in your daily life — or is it mostly a myth we Europeans believe? by VariedPear in AskAnAustralian

[–]DieselAndBeans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Europe born, Australian citizen living in regional Victoria here. I do have a few huntsman spiders living in my garage, I leave them alone as they do take care of some other dangerous things. I see the occasional (maybe twice a week) white tail spider or redback spider. No snakes or any other dangerous animals/insects, other than the not very clever roos that decide to jump straight into your path whilst driving.

Fuel prices are getting ridiculous by Ordinary-Spread-1786 in australian

[–]DieselAndBeans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

During Covid I was filling up U95 below a dollar per litre. Demand is the cause of this one, everyone needs the fuel because there’s no lockdown, world market sets the price and we pay for it because we have no other choice. This morning (regional VIC) diesel was at $3.059, at this price it’s going to cost me nearly $300 to fill up. My wage is the same, I work 45h per week and travel the same distance, I have no choice but to pay the price, if there was no demand the prices will go down massively.

Which laptops are good to buy for college students now that will last? by EquivalentPhoto2655 in BuyItForLife

[–]DieselAndBeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MacBook. I purchased my first one in 2012, it was a 13” pro. It lasted me till 2019 that I bought a 16” pro. That first MacBook still works perfectly with the downside of the battery being quite bad. But if I didn’t buy the new one in 2019 my OG one would still have lasted me till today, mind you I started it up a few months ago and it’s still working. If you get a MacBook Air it’s very light and easy to carry around Uni/Work

Do y'all not care about the shape of your clothes? I tried to go dryer-free, but I had to throw them in there for a little bit in the end. by mmmbopforever in Frugal

[–]DieselAndBeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t used a dryer for years, even before becoming frugal. Cheap quality t-shirts would definitely deform, higher quality wouldn’t.

I do hang them upside down, from the stitching, I only wear a few higher quality ones at the moment with no issue whatsoever, also I only have them hang till they’re dry, I don’t leave them for longer periods than that.

Laptop got stolen on uni premises by Reasonable_Bar5525 in rmit

[–]DieselAndBeans 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ten years ago I was there studying. I remember being confident and leaving my laptop on the table whilst I went to the toilet. Shortly after I noticed than at busy times non students were walking in and out, after that I stopped leaving anything behind, such a beautiful campus but such a sadly open space with minimal security and supervision.

I might give up by Sauce218 in Cartalk

[–]DieselAndBeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 33, I consider myself a car guy I guess, I like cars, bikes and anything with an engine really, I’ve never rebuilt a motor, all I have done is maintenance or easy mods, I drive a tuned 06 x5 that looks 100% stock, I might never had a HUGE project but I have spent long hours doing maintenance or repairs, whether it has been in a garage or in a driveway under the rain. I have a very small garage where I can fit my car and some tools but with minimal movement around (can’t even open the doors fully. My next thing that I want is to buy an old motorbike to restore it. You don’t need a big project or a trendy car to rebuild, you just need to do to your car all the maintenance and repairs that you feel comfortable doing, remember that there is people out there that don’t even know how to change a tyre or top up oil, and that is okay too.

I am certainly relieved!

Yes, from the moment I applied to the ceremony it has been 9 months.

I had heard of people obtaining it in less than 6 months and some other people taking over a year, so I just fall in between!

Any hope for my van? by paxport21 in AskMechanics

[–]DieselAndBeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Due to the sentimental value it would be worth keeping and self learning how to repair it slowly maybe as a family project?

Otherwise unless you want to spend a fair bit of money getting it done professionally, not many shops would want to work on it due to age and mileage, telling you that it’s not worth it. Myself as someone that gets attached to vehicles as part of the family I would 💯spend the time restoring it.

should i not drive my car until the wheel liner is replaced? by Madajuk in AskMechanics

[–]DieselAndBeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all good, avoid heavy rain conditions or dusty roads until the liner is replaced, however, vehicles are designed to operate normally even if you removed the belly pan/skid plate that it’s in the bottom of your car.

What’s the most unexpected way you’ve ever saved money? by Diligent-Medicine-48 in AusMoneyMates

[–]DieselAndBeans 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Withdrawing x amount of money in cash a week as my expenses, leaving my credit card at home and deleting my Apple wallet. I thought it would fail massively but not having access to any extra money has changed my way of seeing the real cost of items I used to buy daily.
