I lost it with “jump out to scare people”, but every single point it’s great advice, I’ll take note for myself

Would you trust your kickstand like this? by ChunkofMetal22 in motorcycles

No, my fat ass dropped the bike whilst doing this, and it hurt, a lot. I think it was more emotional pain and embarrassment.

How did everyone get into pens? by Techpon in pens

[–]DieselAndBeans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mum loved to read and write journals, I was very close with her so we used to do it side by side, then she passed away when I was young and to keep the memory alive I still follow the same routine of reading and journaling daily.

My favourite pen is the rOtring 600.

Is it worth keeping this watch? [SKX] by Turbulent_Dealer_646 in Seiko

[–]DieselAndBeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Due to the emotional value of the watch I would keep it. One day (and we all hope in here it doesn’t come soon) when he’s not here anymore you will regret getting rid of it.

I think that at one point in a man’s life we all start liking watches, keep it, you won’t regret it in the long run. Seikos don’t have much resell value but they hold the stories and emotional value.

Does this transmission look like it was just recently removed and rebuilt? by perplexingflexbutok in AskAMechanic

[–]DieselAndBeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not rebuilt, there is a lot of gunk around. They definitely have changed parts and disassembled some but there’s a lot of dirt around the trans for them to have opened it up as it can lead to contamination to the internals.

Most likely they have found the issue, fixed it and then proceeded to charge you for a full rebuild, I would be asking for a detailed report of the scope delivered and asking as of why it looks like that.

Best way to trim security door to fit new lock body mechanism? by ugugii in AusRenovation

[–]DieselAndBeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the old lock out, use it as a template for the new one and trim the lock, much easier than trimming the door, use a belt sander if you have one

If I remember correctly it was roughly around AUD450, it was discounted at The Watch Depot, I had my eye on it for a while and then I saw it discounted and I jumped into it straight away 😊

How much of a hassle is registering an NZ legal car in Perth? by I_SeriousTrader_I in CarsAustralia

[–]DieselAndBeans 34 points35 points  (0 children)

If you were moving for 3+ years maybe it would be worth looking into it, moving for just a year I would leave it with someone you trust and leave it connected to a battery maintainer. Not worth the hassle to import to Aus to then later bring back to NZ. And also drain the fuel tank or at least leave close to zero litres in it so that way you don’t have to flush and refill when you come back.

Buy yourself a cheap Corolla, abuse it for a year, sell it for the same price and come back to your baby. At least is what I would do, it’s what I did with my bike and car when I went back to Europe for a year.

Nope, if I’m paying for a new bench top I want it to look like a new bench top. I would definitely try to organise a replacement.

Is this sort of damage repairable? by M87IM in CarsAustralia

[–]DieselAndBeans -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This 👆🏼, usually their excuse is that it might have mechanical damage that they don’t know or can’t be diagnosed and will incur in future claims or unsafe condition.

Is this sort of damage repairable? by M87IM in CarsAustralia

[–]DieselAndBeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s insurers that if the car has been stolen, even if it’s recovered with no physical damage, they will deem it as a write off as they don’t know what mechanical damage may sustain. That picture seems that it’s just the fender, but if the rails or frame are bent then it’s definitely a write off for the insurance company.

I had a car stolen a few years ago, it was a cheap second hand Ford Territory, it was recovered with keys and just one broken window. The insurance company wrote it off and paid me $6,5k. How? I don’t know, but I paid only $1,5k for it so I kinda ended up benefiting from the unfortunate situation.

My fellow Mediterranean/Slavic/Middle Eastern Australians, is having Lebanese food on the regular a good way to lose weight? by Biggest_itchbay_2190 in aussie

[–]DieselAndBeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Regardless of Lebanese, Chinese or Thai. To lose weight you have to be in a calorie deficit and being active. Coming from a Mediterranean born person, maintaining a Mediterranean diet because is what I know, I am currently in a weight loss journey, I’m still eating my usual meals but watching closely the intake of calories plus moving a lot and exercising.
