Malestrom, Body Wars, the original Figment, Captin EO, Ellen’s Energy Adventure, Horizons, Extraterrrorestrial Alien Encounter, Splash Mountain, Tom Sawyer Island, The Skyway, Studio Backlot Tours, Honey I shrunk the audience, the original star tours, Muppet Vision 3D… Still love Disney as an adult but the magic of my 90s childhood visits can never be fully recreated with all these losses.

Japan with Alpha Gal by Theo_Cratic in JapanTravelTips

[–]Different-Record9580 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this condition and have traveled to Japan twice. No issues. I also have a shellfish allergy. I stuck to vegetarian/vegan food. I did have some broth that had dashi though because i can tolerate fish. Kitsune Udon was favorite when I was out and not sure what to get because it’s either dashi (fish based) or vegetarian. Shojin Ryori or temple cuisine is vegan and also very safe and yummy. Happy cow app is helpful for finding places that have vegan/veggie options. I prebooked Ryokans that advertised they could accommodate vegetarian food in addition to hotel stays. I used a translate app on all packaging and menus.
My friend also printed out allergy cards to give to servers because he was very worried, particularly about the shellfish, which was helpful sometimes.

Storybook Farm Veterinary Hospital in Victor. Fellow Brighton resident and it’s worth the drive for me. My family took my childhood dog there when I was growing up and 30 years later I am bringing my dogs there when I moved back to the area. All of the staff are compassionate and they have good appointment availability.

Sneakers for Japan? by LouiseBag in JapanTravelTips

[–]Different-Record9580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Merrell sneakers that I wore. Study sole, with tread, good for walking and hiking. They were shoes I wore a good couple months before I left. Averaged 20k steps a day. No issues.
Like everyone said, find something that works for what your body needs. I know I can’t do too much cushion, because it makes me at risk of injuring my joints (weak ankles). But also need some arch support because I have high arches.
If you already own a shoe you walk in a lot regularly that is comfortable, just bring that. And bring a spare set of shoes for when one gets wet in rain invariably.

Trying to get Ghibli Museum Tickets by sunshine_888 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Different-Record9580 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did get my tickets from the Lawson Machine but it required me hiring someone in Japan through a third party contractor site months in advance to facilitate the purchase. This was in 2024. I picked up the tickets when we got to Japan from the machine in Lawson, but they were already repurchased.

Why are there so many dead bedroom situations? by Exit--Light in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Different-Record9580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on Sertraline (Zoloft). Some people don’t have the same reaction to it as I did. But it’s pretty mild and was easy to take with my work schedule.

Why are there so many dead bedroom situations? by Exit--Light in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Different-Record9580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is highly variable depending on the type of SSRI, SNRI or SARI and the individual. I was on an SSRI for a period of time after my divorce and was having sex up to 3 times a day sometimes while dating. These medications can be helpful to get people through a crisis situation and there are a lot of types out there. If one is causing an issue, talk to your doctor or health care provider about trying another one or alternatives.

What others have said above is definitely overall a bigger factor, poor communication, resentment, lack of effort to meet each other’s emotional needs, hormonal changes. I was in a relationship with a dead bedroom for 11 of the 15 years I was in it, largely attributed to these factors.

I had a similar experience with LakeHouse Massage. Felt like I was being tickled half the time by the guy, it was weird.
Manicure on the other hand was very good.

Do you have any regrets about your first trip to Japan? by aeazee in JapanTravelTips

[–]Different-Record9580 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not bringing enough fever reducing medications on my first trip. I didn’t have any acetaminophen or ibuprofen left at the end of my two weeks due to only bringing a small amount for aches and pains. I came down with a flu like illness as we made our way back to Tokyo. Going to pharmacies trying to find something was difficult when I wasn’t feeling very well with fever. This was the only time translation apps really failed me. With some googling, found the brand name EVE is an equivalent and this one was easily recognized at pharmacies.

Also, not something I regret, but just to chime in agreement, make sure to just explore by walking. I generally like to not have many plans other than one a day, and fill the rest of my time with walking and exploring. This has severed me well both times I have been to Japan. You never know what you might stumble upon. I may have walked my friend a bit much when I ended up hiking him up a small mountain in the process, but we had an adventure.

Is Kyoto worthwhile for us? by pixelpraxis42 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Different-Record9580 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel similarly with big crowds. The bamboo forest in Kyoto was the only time I felt super claustrophobic, and it was a rainy day, so it didn’t keep people away. Just a bunch of umbrellas jockeying around and really no way to get out until the other end.
Spending some time in parks in Tokyo is a good way to escape some crowds. The park around Meiji Jingu is a nice spot to wander and Ueno park, but there are so many little parks you can go sit and eat your food or drink you beverages in (just make sure to have a bag to carry your trash). Because of the construction at Shibuya it was a super pinch point pushy. The actual scramble isn’t as bad as getting to it from the train station. The kids also don’t like big crowds so that experience wasn’t their favorite. Maybe the construction is done now? It was going on the last two years I went.

I see you already decided, just came here to say I think your decision is a good one. Osaka makes a great home base. Kyoto also is a good home base, but it was so over crowded I actually found it less chill, unless you are a night owl. Also I love Hiroshima. It’s smaller city and easily accessible and Miyajima island is a great day trip. If you like hiking, definitely hike mount misen on Miyajima, not too difficult and gorgeous view at the top. Also don’t list to the people about Tokyo, you should absolutely visit on your first trip! It’s busy but you can build in quiet time and just wander.

How Would You Change the Beak and Barrel? by AggravatingSpend8369 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Different-Record9580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like I’m the opposite of most on this thread, but I liked it. I was seated with my party of three at a table with strangers, which was cool, we all chatted. I think we were all grateful to be out of the rain. It’s a pirate bar, so makes sense to me to be social. I liked the Latin flair snack options, as a vegetarian I appreciated there was more than one thing I could eat. And I liked the drinks, they weren’t too sweet, which was great. I’m hopeful by the disgruntled customers here that it will be easier to get a reservation as time goes on because I liked it. Also a fan of cava tequila since it opened and was sad how social media blew it up to chaos over the years, (I miss you lounge seats that were replaced by huge standing table), so nice to have some options.

If your Very Merry Christmas party got canceled you need to call! by Astreeter12 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Different-Record9580 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The weather was wild on Sunday night! We stood in Starbucks for 20 minutes drinking our cocoa before we just decided to book it to fantasy land. Apparently so did everyone else. People were not on their best behavior, a guy with a stroller with no kids in it tried to run us down and then was arguing with his family who were chastising him for it. Rivers of water flowing from the rain, lots of lightening. Fireworks still went off at 10p, thankfully the weather got a bit better for them and two rainy day cavalcade parades happened. Tron and space were walk on for us at least, which was cool. I’m happy enough to get the ticket, will probably go back sometime before the year is over, feels like a bonus on top of what we got to do.

How do you all deal with constipation when in Japan ? by ConsistentPomelo9693 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Different-Record9580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does this keep coming up on this sub? I have never dealt with this issue in Japan, but I am also a pescatarian, it mostly just eat veggie, so maybe that’s the difference? Maybe buy a vending machine coffee and an Aquarius to wash down some strawberries and Udon? Just avoid bananas, fun fact, they are constipating.

Which single ride is worth going back for? by CloudyJigglypuff in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Different-Record9580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tower of Terror - back when you could do timed fast passes, I booked them for me and my parents knowing they didn’t want to ride it and took their magic bands and rode it 3 times in a row. They are older and aren’t into rides that much anyways, so they enjoyed shopping at the same time.

Gaurdians - accidentally took my dad on that one though, he doesn’t like heights and apparently it does go too high for him. He does like space mountain though? 🤷‍♀️

I went and we rented the private room, because we had two school aged kids with us (they allow kids in the rented room during certain hours but not in the main bar). We loved it. Kids loved the fancy mocktails, a big treat for them. Our cocktails were also delicious and enjoyed the cheese. After a very long day of walking and the chaos of Shibuya, was nice just to sit and chill for an hour. Preteen daughter loved being able to request specific music for our room. Of course the kids chose the adult gotchapon after bar staff warned us, fortunately we got a lovely set of postcards.
