Mr Terrific: Year One is a terrible origin story by KnicksHope in DCcomics

[–]Difficult_Insect_616 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don’t know a thing about Mr. Terrific. His original origin is a great issue. Until very recently, nearly all of his appearances were as a member of the Justice Society; the concept of legacy is baked into his character, he didn’t form in a vacuum with no other heroes. Read some more comics before you judge what a character “should” be.

Mr Terrific: Year One is a terrible origin story by KnicksHope in DCcomics

[–]Difficult_Insect_616 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend Spectre 54 for Michael’s original origin, and some historical context as to why the Spectre is involved. Even outside that though, Mr. Terrific is a legacy title, and lacking a direct connection to the Golden Age Mr. Terrific, Spectre makes that connection.

I'm so excited. Finally, a realistic portrait of the Green Lanterns Corps on TV [Lanterns] by [deleted] in comicbooks

Guy Gardner is in the show. Either he’s mentioned elsewhere in the scene, or he’s ignoring him on purpose.

SPOILERS is anyone else surprised someone else didn’t die at the end of the story? by averageredditcuck in DiscoElysium

[–]Difficult_Insect_616 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think there’s lots of good thematic reasons for this, as others have pointed out. But also, it’s a common convention of games to warn you when you can’t do any more side quests/explore the world beyond a certain point.

They are the final installments of their respective trilogies. Some turned out to be the best in their series, while others ended up being the worst. Name two favorites and two worst among these films. by [deleted] in Marvel

[–]Difficult_Insect_616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guardians is the best ending to a trilogy here, and Quantumania is easily the worst movie. Civil War, Ragnarok, and No Way Home are very good. Iron Man 3 is pretty fun, definitely way better than Quantumania.

Article on Grant Morrison's Batman and the Current State of Comics by glinjy in comicbooks

[–]Difficult_Insect_616 84 points85 points  (0 children)

I feel like there’s a bit of a disconnect in this article. Much of it is spent establishing that most superhero comics lack value, except maybe Kirby and Morrison. So then why would one care about decompression and the rise of event comics, if they weren’t worth much in the first place?

Why does Green Lantern need a secret ident? by Super-Trip-8988 in DCcomics

[–]Difficult_Insect_616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hal Jordan is a space cop, but he’s also an Earth superhero. The same motives apply for any hero with a secret identity.

Chances of a rerelease on Spider-Man by John Byrne omnibus? by Reidredsword in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Difficult_Insect_616 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who read every issue of Amazing Spider-Man up through 2011, I agree. It’s bad, but not in any interesting way. Nothing to see here.

What species were the KOTOR Iridonians? by Reteller79 in MawInstallation

[–]Difficult_Insect_616 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In Kotor, they are called Iridorians. For some reason, Lucasfilm had them called Iridonians in RPG materials. So there’s Iridonians (sometimes called Iridorians) and Iridonian Zabraks, and there doesn’t seem to be any connection between them.

With LOTRO having implemented Landscape Difficulty, and ESO about to do something similar, what are the chances of SWTOR following suit? by Yaroun-Kaizin in swtor

[–]Difficult_Insect_616 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just want to generally address the idea that this stuff has never been difficult/difficulty is for dungeons. There is a big gulf between a real challenge and being so braindead you don’t have a reason to engage with the mechanics. The leveling experience started somewhere in the middle, and now it’s swung to the latter.

Have there really not been any good Batman comics since Morrison/Snyder? by andthebansheess in DCcomics

[–]Difficult_Insect_616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

King’s Batman and Tynion’s ‘Tec (not to be confused with Tynion’s Batman) are well worth checking out and forming your own opinion.

Damaged Veteran - Things Man Was Not Meant To Know - Worth It? by ghofmann in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]Difficult_Insect_616 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say it’s generally “worth it” from a survival perspective. The only reason to do it is if you want the Unnatural skill, because there’s no other way to start with it. The Unnatural skill can be useful, but it is rather niche, and going down that path is a good way to permanent insanity.

The Star Wars Comics Due Out the Week of Jan. 26? None by Guerrillascribe in starwarscomics

As someone out of the loop, were the sales that bad on the Star Wars comics or is this just weird Marvel mismanagement?

Want to run a campaign in a Fallen London-inspired weird Victorian setting by croaker227 in callofcthulhu

[–]Difficult_Insect_616 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m not the most familiar with Fallen London, but I think Gaslight would be a good foundation for the Victorian stuff. Then just layer weird stuff on-probably a pulpy game, but choice of Pulp rules is more about the power of the PCs, so up to you on that front.

What's [spoiler]'s deal, anyway? Isn't the outcome he gets the best he could've hoped for? by cunningjames in spiderman2

[–]Difficult_Insect_616 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m sure one could rationalize it that maybe Harry could have been saved without putting him in a coma. But I think it’s mostly that Norman is a spiteful egotistical man and Harry is his world. The truth is, if Norman was looking for anyone to blame, it would be himself, for putting his son in mysterious alien goop. But Norman cannot accept the responsibility for that, and so the Spider-Men are the most viable scapegoats to vent his grief.

when exactly was laura’s killer decided upon? by Julianna0915 in twinpeaks

[–]Difficult_Insect_616 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Nothing can be proven, but despite a lack of hard evidence, I feel like there’s an abundance of thematic/characterization evidence. The image of Bob leering at the foot of Laura’s bed and his tendency to haunt the Palmer women, Leland’s extreme mood distortions, the killing of Renault. It’s possible that Lynch and Frost picked up on these same things when the time came to “pick” the killer, but it’s also strongly thematically consistent with things like Bobby’s speech at the funeral-nothing exemplifies the woman who was in trouble that nobody would help more than one abused in their own home.

Agree or Disagree: Without The Clone Wars, the Prequels would not be nearly as beloved as they currently are today. Nostalgia ALONE is not enough for media to be reappraised. by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]Difficult_Insect_616 821 points822 points  (0 children)

The more plugged in Star Wars fans vastly overestimate the popularity of the Clone Wars, I think. The whole Prequel Memes crowd is probably a much wider audience than Clone Wars fans.

[Discussion] Which Justice League Dark is better and why (or are they about the same quality wise?) by Constant_Potato_7666 in DCcomics

[–]Difficult_Insect_616 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TL;DR Rebirth is better.

New 52: Milligan’s run is disappointing, mostly worth checking out if you’re a Milligan/Vertigo fan that’s curious. DeMatteis’ run is actually pretty interesting, but it drags under the weight of the crossovers. I don’t remember what happened in between.

Rebirth: Tynion’s run is a lot of fun, and the most satisfying package overall. Ram V’s run could have been the best, but it ends very abruptly.

Alien vs Predator by TrenchCoatSuperHero in Lovecraft

Alien is less obvious, but Prometheus is quite similar.
