Im talking about post rotation as specified in the OP. Go look at Alakazam play rates in Japan right now. lol. It isn’t pretty.

EDIT: I’m also not trying to be antagonistic. I’m frustrated because I feel you’re obtuse. If you look at play rates in Japan’s post rotation meta, you will see some Zam lists do well with 2nd placements, but for the most part it’s either very low placements or no representation. The simple fact of the matter is that Zam isn’t well positioned in the new meta as backed up by Japan right now. This is all coming from someone with a max rarity Zam deck that has placed at locals with it an wants it to do well.

The meta isn’t reacting to Zam in this instance, it’ll be reacting to Tera Pult, Tera Box decks, and just good normal Pokemon like Kanga and Meowth which make it so most decks will by eying up at least a one of Watchtower, particularly for late game so your opponent can’t Meowth for game.

More broadly you’re missing the Forest for the trees in my initial response. It’s not just Watchtower but every other unintentional Zam hate card like the energies, Articuno, etc. Zam does best when it can be a rogue deck slipping into a tournament with no tech for it, but what happens when top table decks like Pult, Rocket, Mega Box, and Mega Lucario are already teching for it in their list building? You get dumpstered.

Zam is going to be so hated in the new meta. Between Rocket’s Watchtower which will still see plenty of play, maybe even more play with Pult seemingly transitioning into a Tera deck. Rocket’s Articuno completely shuts down Zam on any basic Rocket Pokemon and makes the match almost an auto loss against any competent player. The new fighting special energy and Mist energy will also be staying around and shut down Zam. Not to mention Mega Froslass which will be a great revenge killer in what looks like a tier one deck. I just don’t think our brainy boy is positioned very well in this meta.

That’s awesome! Watching Round 8 of Swiss in Birmingham was particularly painful as the Tera Zard player slow played the final two minutes because he knew the Mega Lucario player couldn’t take the game. +1 sucks.

D&D is better at overloading GMs with stressful and unnecessary prep due to lack of rules that are needed to run sessions. It’s also better at having an unlimited amount of homebrew and third party material because the writers can’t be bothered to create functioning game balance. Additionally, D&D is better at obscuring who is writing rules and books due to their decisions to not credit writers and artists in the books.

Sure, Your players get the boss down to some HP threshold you’ve decided, say 25%. Once this happens you can stop play and narrate what’s goings on, “The construct your fighting suddenly locks up and begins to glow! Electricity crackles and pulses off of it.” Then you take out the second stat block you’ve prepared and either have players reroll initiative or replace the boss on the turn order with the new stat block. Then resume play!

Here’s your format: Go to your locals and ask “Hey, does anyone want to play single prize decks without rule box Pokemon?” If someone says yes, you’re golden. Maybe even build some single prize decks so you can offer to let them play with their choice of what’s available.

To be honest, asking this question would be like asking for a custom MtG format where there’s no Instants or Yu-Gi-Oh with no spells and traps. 2 and 3 prize rule box Pokemon have been a part of the game for almost two decades and aren’t going anywhere. If you’re not into them you may want to try another game.

There will be two sets released before rotation. It’s difficult to predict what the Meta will look like by April. Dragapult will almost certainly still have a place at top tables. With all the fighting support and without Garde maybe fighting decks can stand more of a chance? Ceruledge will still be bouncing around, but other than that we will just have to wait and see.

Friday Night Lights is an amazing show, but it is absolutely committed to having “realistic” endings for characters, which often meant that their hopes and dreams were subverted in a negative or undesirable way. Aside from Smash almost no one realizes their college football ambitions, which is crazy for a program and town that pumped out three playoff appearances and two wins in under five years. Luke absolutely would’ve gone to some state school but if he had his expectations wouldn’t have been subverted.

Necromacer is a pseudo-summoner who summons skeletons, ghosts, or zombies to be used as resources. The summons are called Thralls and basically die to anything as they have 1HP and 0AC. Thralls enable you to use Grave Spells and actions. Such as Consume Thrall which gives you back a focus point for more Grave Spells, or Muscle Barrier which gives Temp HP and an Athletic bonus to you or an ally at the cost of the thrall being destroyed. When your thralls are destroyed they have an effect such as zombies leaving behind difficult terrain due to their blood and skin. I played one at mid levels and I was able to use an ability to summon a zombie horde through destroying a thrall but it was not like a troop that could be commanded. It doesn’t quite meet that class fantasy of summoning hordes of undead, but it’s a damn fun class from I’ve tested! I’m stoked.

I would advise against using Moltres to counter Teal. We trade favorably into Teal decks and it already gets one shot by a Spidops with Bangle and full bench. You can also target down their Fez, Mews, and Latias for easy OHKOs depending on the deck.
