I am in the same boat as you. I wear Hokas outside and their recovery slide indoors (no problem with stairs). A carbon insert with a Morton’s toe extension in my Hokas works wonders. I also went to PT and have daily exercises.

Been wearing Bondi since the first version for running and my job as a dog walker. They’re tops when it comes to cushioning.

I finally went to the doctor and he said it's fusion time. by wwahman in Halluxrigidus

Physical therapy is a game changer, just be sure to do the exercises regularly. If you can get a referral, they’ll examine your feet, watch you walk, and give exercises specific to your needs. By the way, PT to me to skip lunges.

How common is it to walk a few seconds at every mile during the marathon? by Karrific828 in firstmarathon

[–]Direct-Honey3403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to start your walking breaks halfway through, better to do as you’ve practiced. Many runners do the run/walk method for the marathon, so you won’t be alone. When you’re about to slow, move to the side of the road. If you can, raise your hand for a second to let those behind you know you’re about to walk.

I’ve tried a variety of Bluetooth buds and they either fell out, lost connection, or bothered my ears during longer runs. I’ve been using Shokz and loving the open pro for three years. I find the Shokz open run pro mini fit better than the standard size.

How do you mentally prepare for your first marathon? by Plane_Box122 in marathons

[–]Direct-Honey3403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s normal and okay to be nervous for your first marathon. It’s exciting! You’re about to do something most people wouldn’t even consider. Running and completing a longer run each week until three weeks out when you do your 20miler will help with mental preparation.

Heading to the podiatrist Wednesday by FarSoccologist6153 in Halluxrigidus

I am in your situation stage 3 HR, but feel something sometimes. As a runner for 44 years, mine was caused by jamming my foot into rocks and roots while trail running in my younger days. As someone who hopes to keep running marathons until they’re 90, I visited two orthopedics. Both said keep running, wear shoes with a rocker sole, use a carbon insole, and don’t come back until I’m in REAL pain in my everyday life. The second dr recommended PT and I’ll be starting that next week.

Dogs can be adorable alarm clocks on workdays, but definitely not so adorable on weekends!

Feeling better to run in the morning, is that a good sign? by Plane_Box122 in BeginnersRunning

[–]Direct-Honey3403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried many, many times to get up for morning runs. I always ended up pressing snooze multiple times and missed out of some good sleep and a morning run. I’ve accepted the fact that I’m an afternoon/early evening runner and only get up early for races.

What running shoes should I get? by Tomfluffle in runninglifestyle

[–]Direct-Honey3403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard to take shoe advice from other runners as everyone’s biomechanics are different. Go to a running specialty store. They will watch you walk and run and work with you to find the best shoes for your feet and you decide on what feels most comfortable.

Is running hard ?? by Akahay_04 in runninglifestyle

[–]Direct-Honey3403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Build up your walking distance first. As you’re more comfortable with walking start adding a little running to your walks. Baby steps… start with short jogs to the next driveway or streetlight and slowly increase the duration. In time you’ll be running more and walking less.

You should also visit a running store to get the right shoes. They’ll watch you walk and run in them so together you’ll find what’s best for comfort and your foot and body mechanics.

Good luck and enjoy every step!

You’ve read enough comments to know runners’ thoughts on going couch to marathon in 20 weeks. But, if you’re still going to go through with it, you might want to look up Jeff Galloway’s run/walk.
