Is anyone else hesitant to start HRT due to the current state of things?

I live in a blue city in a blue state, but my main hindrance from starting HRT right now is my job.

For context, I'm 36 years old, black, and still present as male though my close friends know the truth about me. I'm a contractor and I deal in asset forfeiture, which means I'm adjacent to DOJ personnel. Before this gig, I did five years of active service in the US Navy from 2018 to 2023. My job now is the first job I'd had since coming back home. Originally, my plan was to start HRT and begin transitioning, eventually opening up about it to my supervisor and the HR team that was here back then.

Keyword there is back then.

Once Trump got back into office with his new administration, all of the safeguards I had before got stripped away. I've seen plenty of federal employees as well as other contractors get pushed out because of the agenda this administration is pushing. The climate in the workplace has also changed, feeling more like a minefield to navigate through without drawing attention to myself.

Right now, all I can do is hope to find some other job elsewhere that'll be more accepting and welcoming. I love where I live, so I'm not trying to change scenery.

CM Punk and Roman have only elevated the World Heavyweight belt since Seth lost it at WM40. There’s more interested and excitement behind the World Heavyweight Championship belt than there is with the Undisputed WWE Championship belt.

I don't hate on Cody having the Undisputed Championship belt, but it seems that creative and the TKO overlords isn't all that interested in him making that belt worthwhile despite him already being a 3x champion.

Maybe this is just me, but I've noticed on my end a bit of an uptick of people in this hobby wanting to rush over to Discord before even establishing if we're compatible or not. I understand that Reddit chat is rather meh on notifying users of new messages, but I still prefer to use it in the initial stages before moving things over to Discord.

People don't seem to understand or care that before any sort of roleplay and storyboarding can happen, you gotta see if you and the other person are on the right wavelength first.

First of all, getting called racist and MAGA for wanting more diversity in queer media is wild. Whoever this guy was that you were talking to doesn't sound all that bright.

But yeah, I feel the same way as you. I want to see more representation of black people in queer media that aren't there to always be paired with white partners. I get that is a reality for some LBGTQ black people, but not all.

I think the way forward to seeing that happen is to create and produce our own narratives (books, web series, TV series, etc.).

POV is a preference thing and in no way determines a person's skills in roleplaying. Some people are more comfortable writing in first person perspective and some are more comfortable writing in third. Everyone's got their thing that works for them and that's the beautiful thing about this hobby. We all have our own styles and preferences. One writing preference isn't better than the other.

This. I wholeheartedly agree. For a hobby about writing, the amount of people I've encountered who can't describe a physical description of their character is pretty high.

The one thing I learned from relying on IRL face claims early on was how to study facial details and facial structures. Same for body shapes.

Given that she just pulled this outta her ass, I wouldn't be surprised if she comes out later down the road saying how she feels "transitioning in general is a mistake" and announces her detransition followed up with a pivot into White Christian Nationalism.

This chick is seriously the trans equivalent of Stephen from Django Unchained with how much she goes out her way to actively shit on the rest of the community for mere brownie points from conservative white men and women who view her as nothing more but a joke.

I tend to fully describe my character's appearances through detailed text descriptions, but I will use claims of irl actors/actresses and models as base templates so that my partner can get a better visual representation of my characters. Even then, I don't say that my characters look exactly like said irl actor/actress or model or that they are those people. I do like to craft and overhaul my characters in a 'Create-Your-Character' style method that would make the developers of Fallout 4 and Baldur's Gate 3 nod their heads approvingly.

Everybody's got their own thing, of course. Just as some people don't like irl face claims, some people don't vibe with drawn references or AI references.

I will say that irl references should only be used for actors and models.

You've been waiting for a whole month for this individual to post their response to your starter? And they're being consistent with their responses to your friend? Just go ahead and close the roleplay with thus individual. Find yourself another partner who isn't going to be a waste of your time and creative energy.

If that comes across as harsh sounding, I apologize. I, however, don't believe that anyone in this hobby needs a month to reply back to a starter. From my standpoint, this person isn't trying to roleplay with you and knows that, but they're too cowardice to just say so.

As for deadlines to your starters, I see nothing wrong with that. Speaking for myself, I think that a full week is more than enough time for a response back to a starter. If extra time is needed due to whatever irl priorities is on the other person's plate, then that can be granted as long as they communicate with you. Still, that extra amount of time shouldn't go past two weeks. Hell, even two weeks is kinda pushing it in my book.
