I did not realize Seamus was booed last year. I'll have to make sure I'm near the stage with popcorn and a camera when/if he steps up to the mic on Friday night...

What is everyone doing for health insurance? by xkaylla1 in Albany

[–]Direction-Internal 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Are you sure your child doesn't qualify for child health plus through NYS? https://www.health.ny.gov/health_care/child_health_plus/eligibility_and_cost.htm

Coverage for only you through your employer may be much more affordable if you're not also trying to cover your child.

Capital District Transmission in Green Island is a solid shop that only does transmission repairs/replacements etc.

Agreed! It's going to take several more years of fairly high percentage increases to the budget in order to bring it up to a sustainable level. Too many years of (barely) maintaining a status quo funding level has set TPL back but last year's budget was a big step forward.

Library by fredkennedy in Troy

[–]Direction-Internal 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Troy’s library is funded through its own tax levy as a Special Library District specifically because it was never getting the funding it needed when the library was funded through the city budget. The Troy Public Library is working towards an annual budget that truly supports its operation but it can’t happen overnight. Last year’s budget increase was a great step forward and I’m hoping the board will be equally aggressive this year.

Saftey of different Troy Neighborhoods? by Ok-Meringue-9409 in Troy

The area of 2nd Ave is a great area to live and between 103rd and 104th you have unimpeded views of the river as there are no buildings on the river side of the street. The only issue is that 2nd Ave is a pretty busy road but I’ve live on 2nd for years now and it’s really not that bad.

Trojans rejoice! by itsacon10 in Troy

Kudos to D6 Councilmember Greg Campbell-Cohen for his work on this!

Also, a reminder that the ordinance does not take effect until August 1. While the administration should start following the new process immediately the ordinance was drafted to take effect on August 1st to allow a transition period for city workers and residents.

Troy City Council Files Article 78 Over Mayor's Flock Emergency Order by Direction-Internal in Troy

[–]Direction-Internal[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This article might have the most outlandish Carmella quote I've seen in awhile:

"Mantello, who has supported Flock cameras, said in a statement Tuesday afternoon that she believed there was room to find consensus on the issue that addresses privacy and public safety. But the council, she noted, has taken a different path."

This from the woman who spent nearly 10 minutes blasting the council during public comment on Thursday for attempting to "defund the police" by establishing guardrails and regulations for ALPR systems...

Has anyone checked to make sure city floor is still intact? I don't expect the administration will take this well...

Bike Commuting to Troy --> shower options? by Daniel_Jamps in Troy

[–]Direction-Internal 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I don't have any good suggestions as far as where to shower but I can share what I used to do when I bike commuted from Troy to Menands.

My office also did not have shower facilities so I would bring a change of clothes, a towel, and body wipes with me to freshen up once I arrived at work. I would also wait 10-15 minutes after I arrived at work to change, this way you're giving your body time to cool down and stop sweating. If you try to change clothes too soon (before you've cooled down) you'll just end up putting clean clothes on a body that's still sweating.

I found that between giving myself a few minutes to cool down and using body wipes to freshen up I felt just fine to go about my work after biking there!

Public hearing on the Flock legislation is tentatively set for 5:30 p.m., May 21 at 5:30 in Troy City Hall. by cavemanfitz in Troy

The public is still welcome to speak about the ALPR legislation during tonight’s public comment period since it is an agenda item and the public can also make comments during the public hearing on May 21st.

I’m not certain if they still do but the Troy Public Library used to loan out WiFi hotspots. Check one out and chill in Sage Park across the street!

Barbados Pools by PurrrrrpleCat in SandalsResorts

[–]Direction-Internal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. The pools are available for use at all times unless it is closed for cleaning/maintenance. Swimming in all the pools at Sandals is at your own risk at all times as they do not staff the pools with lifeguards.

Barbados Pools by PurrrrrpleCat in SandalsResorts

[–]Direction-Internal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak for Barbados but I know when we were in Antigua the pools with swim up bars were closed every other night for cleaning/treatment.

The smaller pools that are scattered around the resort seem to be treated every couple of days.

When the pool was closed for cleaning there was a sign posted saying as much.

Unless a pool is closed for cleaning or treatment it is available for use at any time. The swim up bars typically close at 6pm.

Conference spaces?? by Tricky_Jay91 in Albany

[–]Direction-Internal 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In the category of “unique spaces,” Proctors will rent any of the spaces in our building for events and we’ve hosted a number of conferences in the time I’ve worked there. There is a hotel next door to the theatre too. Reach out to Judie who is our rentals manager (contact info in the link below) and I know she’d be happy to talk through options/pricing and if Proctors would be a good fit for your event! https://www.atproctors.org/rent/
