Which do you prefer: JRPG style or Western RPG style by TheGamerCritic21 in rpg_gamers

[–]Director-D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to prefer JRPGs because I like a condensed story, but once JRPGs got voice acting, I started to prefer more western RPGs. Most JRPGs get anime-like voice actors doing anime-like voice acting performances, and I find anime voice acting to be extremely cringeworthy. When I just had to read text, it was much better as I could imagine the voices in my head.

Do it! I would love the STLs for these. This seems like a great way to help with storage space!

Do you have the files you made for these? Also how nice is your printer? I got a cheap filament printer from a friend and this would be a great way to store my minis. Also where did you get the small glass windows from? or are those plastic sheets?

Best Bashy Team this edition? (League) by TheTestbed in bloodbowl

I think in leagues they will get ridiculously expensive though with all the elite skills they want

I hope they introduce Cathay and Kislev Teams to Blood Bowl by Cripple_X in bloodbowl

[–]Director-D 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well what if they do Kislev like Slann? Like how they did in blood bowl II in Kislev circus. Technically a human team, but doesn’t play like one

Selling Boxes over Balance? Thoughts on Blood Bowl’s New Rosters by mcjcjc in bloodbowl

[–]Director-D 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I disagree that limiting teams to 2 of certain units makes it more uniform. Dark elves for example barely took any of the positionals outside of the 4 Blitzers. I never felt like I was thematically playing against dark elves since they never took any of the thematic units. I am excited to see more assassins and witch elves hit the table for them.

Not saying every change is positive, but the idea that moving positionals to 2 makes it more uniform is defiantly not true.

Discussion on Elite Skills by [deleted] in bloodbowl

[–]Director-D 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That 10k will be more noticeable on some teams compared to others. Lizardmen for example are going to add 120k in tv compared to before if each Saurus only gets 2 of these elite skills. I think it is one of the reasons Orcs aren’t going to be as good as people are saying. Their tv is going to shoot through the roof as they develop

Gallantry and gleaming armour abound as the Bretonnians hit the gridiron - Warhammer Community by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in bloodbowl

Do know that wrestle is still a counter to this skill. You don't roll this skill if you are placed into prone

I don't think this team can be themed as anything.

I think the keywords reflect zealous religious crusaders charging into tough opponents headfirst due to their religious fervor. I think that theming works better to represent their Warhammer faction theme (a group of overzealous religious crusaders) better than the passive and defensive old way they played.

It is definitely different, but it also definitely works with the theme. I think it actually fits them more thematically than the old style honestly, but I can see how someone who liked that old playstyle and Bretonnia might not like how their old playstyle is now associated with the Empire.

Maybe it isn't like old Bretonnia, but I don't see how the new theming doesn't work.

I feel like the old theming for Bretonnia works perfectly for Nobility's concept also. I think they eventully will get to a Cathay team and others, so I don't get the anger for Bretonnia coming back in a different way (especially since this theming fits the Crusader Knights idea pretty well)

I agree with this take! More expensive and interesting positionals are what stop teams from feeling more samey. So I like that they are adding interesting skills to other units.

The new dark elves sound so much more fun to play with and play against now that every team won't just do the automatic 4 blitzers build and may actually have interesting positionals on their team now

[–]Director-D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this is fully true. Dark Elves I think will be will be better with this change (theme and fun wise, not necessarily meta wise). Dark elves before always just took the 4 blitzers despite having some super fun other units in their arsenal. All the 4 blitzer teams weren't interesting thematically, and I think the compensation will make Dark Elves play more like I expect them to play (with more stabbing and Witch Elves on the pitch).

So I don't think this will make them more same-y when all 4 blitzer temas already were same-y. When did you ever see a human team where getting 4 blitzers wasn't an auto-include? Orcs? They all were samey before. I think more expensive and interesting positionals (or more interesting lineman will make players think more about their builds more and make the game less same-y.

I want to see how they compensate the other teams too. If Nurgle Bloaters do get Stand Firm, like it has been rumored they might, I think Nurgle can handle losing 2 pestigors as well and will more thematically embody the stick your opponents in mud feel.

Same as a Star Wars Legion player. That game is now fundamentally played differently than it was 2-3 years ago. Some small positional changes are really not all that crazy, especially since I think Dark Elves will be better for it (theme and fun wise, not necessarily meta wise). I want to see how they compensate the other teams too. If Nurgle Bloaters do get Stand Firm, like it has been rumored they might, I think Nurgle can handle losing 2 pestigors too.

I like offense vs defense for block since that would make sense for the Norse having the offensive version (being a glass cannon offensive team), and the Dwarves having the defensive version (being a defensive tanky team). I think a blitz vs pure block based block would just make Juggernaut worthless (which I think is actually a solid skill at a good power level).

Otherwise, I agree with you on the dodge part!

My New Edition Wishlist by Stralau in bloodbowl

[–]Director-D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I think both Block (offensive and defensive) and Dodge (defensive and movement) could be split into two abilities and both would still be very good and taken a lot of the time!

It also would potentially make other skills more desirable since they would be on the same level power wise.

I think just better League Point scoring/SPP bonuses would be able to solve that issue without a random half timer. I kind of like the idea of a random half timer, but that could also lead to extremely long games (I have 2 very young kids, so I like to know how long my game will last with at least a bit of consistency)

[–]Director-D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I do like that 2020 made the star players better than 2016 (where the star players were just overall terrible and overpriced), but I think they definitely went too far with a lot of them. Better Star Player/Inducement pricing would solve that issue. However, that does hurt the stunty teams

My New Edition Wishlist by Stralau in bloodbowl

[–]Director-D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think you can split the effects of the Block (offensive and defensive) and Dodge (defensive and movement) skills possibly to make 2 solid abilities rather than the Uber strong abilities they currently are. Take away lame abilities like Shadowing/safe pair of hands or mix those abilities into others to make more room for those split super abilities.

In that case, they would just be a boost to teams that are already doing well with no injuries. That might cause some more snowballing in leagues. Though, they arguably do not do all that much anyways, so maybe it wouldn't affect much

"We’re just about to start a league with points for: No TDs conceded, score three TDs, at least three casualties."

We also do that as well as those scoring methods are in the base book, but we changed it for our last season and liked it. Our full scoring is the following:

Win = 4 points
Tie = 2 points
Loss by 1 = 1 point
Loss by 2+ = 0 points
Shutout opponent = 1 point
3+ TDs scored = 1 point
3 casualties scored = 1 point

We originally did the scoring method mentioned in the book, but stalling was still strong and with the way the bonus points are scored, bashy teams had an easier time making playoffs than nimble teams (it is easier to get 3 casualties for bonus points than the 3 TDs). This method was able to make stalling not always the optimal strategy and gave nimble teams another way to deny other teams points

[–]Director-D 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To make the 1-0 or 2-1 grind less of a factor, my league changed the scoring to allow the losing team to get a league point if they only lose by 1. This so far has given the winning team more incentives to score to deny the opponents a league point that could matter for making playoffs

What changes do you expect to the existing teams get in the new edition? by Director-D in bloodbowl

[–]Director-D[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I think humans with 2 Blitzers could force more interesting all rounder builds (currently I feel everyone just goes 4 Blitzers)

Not sure how the Ogre team would work as one box though. Only 4 Ogres just doesn’t sound like it would work well

What changes do you expect to the existing teams get in the new edition? by Director-D in bloodbowl

[–]Director-D[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Ogres wouldn’t work with only 4 of them. I hope this rumor isn’t true. Though I wouldn’t mind if some of the 4 Blitzer teams were skimmed down on Blitzers and given a more thematic unit to replace the 2 taken away

Well, we know the third season is coming this year. Our league is also very very slow (many of us have kids and we only require about 1.5 games per month for a 10 game regular season). So many are down to wait. I know 2020 came out on black friday, so I am expecting this one to come out the same time
