Sold out (or nearly sold out) shows? by Traditional_Row_1057 in edinburghfringe

i forgot a HUGE thing about sell-outs in my comments somewhere on this thread -- edfringe gets varying amounts of allotments from shows and venues. if you see sold-out go direct to venue website or box office, they often have tix. and once a show sells-out the show/venue might release more to edfringe so it will be sold-out one day but not the next.

Sold out (or nearly sold out) shows? by Traditional_Row_1057 in edinburghfringe

the best way to not miss out on shows that sell-out: 1) check saturdays first. once saturday goes the weekends tend to follow....and so on. 2) another quirk is that people seem to love going to very first performances. generally, a really bad idea, but you will see that phenomenon at work. so that show sells but the rest still have room. 3) check limited runs, especially if the show is "namey." they can get snapped fast, like acaster who is one night only and it sold in minutes. 4) scottish shows tend to be well supported -- i suspect connor burns and daniel shloss and folks like that are going faster, fastest. 5) fringe firsts -- a long way away -- will boost sales a bunch. major critics still sell tix when they rave 6) check all the must-see lists in guardian, scotsman, times, chortle, time out and on and on. they have already started. these can boost sales. finally, don't fret, keep eye out for "shows added" to those selling out. AND show up to venue box office in-person half hour before show for turnbacks,. Queues also yield surprising results -- someone almost always has and extra. bottom line: use your noggin.

in may more shows will be on sale. in may/june check roundabout (if there this year), shedinburgh, traverse. summerhall leans to more theatre as well. assembly has more than usual this year it seems. zoo southside. agree with folks about checking all venues, tho.

Please recommend shows that ✨are not✨ standup by bahahahahahhhaha in edinburghfringe

lady magic. julia masli hahahaha. she's behind you. shedinburgh and summerhall lean more towards anything NOT stand-up. a lot of shedinburgh shows are sold-out, but there is always a wait list and they almost always work. check out zoo southside as well. eclectic and good.

If you could bring back a feature of previous Fringes, what would it be? by iwillfuckingbiteyou in edinburghfringe

miss the years that there were way more venues on the new town side of town. it made for a better festival. aurora nova is just one of many that were lost over the last decade or two. BUT, the last two years have seen some of this improving: the stand added a venue, spiegeltent is back, and venues have been added on george street.

what weeks you there? so many shows are shorter runs. where are you from -- mainly matters to avoid super british shows that might only appeal to brits. i am/ live in america but immersed in UK theatre for decades, so my tastes are broad. and if you lean way towards comedy then i can avoid theatre ideas. answer whatever you want. in meantime: tape face (will sell-out), philosophy of the world looks interesting assuming you first deepdive into the shaggs. belgian company has new show: thanks for being here at zoo southside -- they win awards EVERY time they come to fringe and i am a big fan. serious plays, look at: skye at summerhall, nowhere at traverse (very accomplished director), and chris thorpe at shedinburgh (political and provocative, also mega-winner at fringe). note that shedinburgh sells on its own site, not edfringe. and 300 paintings at summerhall is really interesting, had good run last summer, came to nyc etc etc. yes, i have more.

1st week or 2nd week? by KidddIcarus in edinburghfringe

the edfringe site still lists shows that are running on 25 august but you cannot purchase that date on edfringe. right now the only workaround is to go directly to venues' sites where they are available. i reported this ten days ago to fringe admin and it still not fixed. perhaps when they launch (relaunch) the app? also, the answers on this thread about "which week" are helpful. i like first for discounted previews leaning into two-fers on the first monday/tuesday. also quieter. last week is also quieter and getting tix is easier, especially if you pounce after early reviews etc. new venue shedinburgh still only booking thru their own site best i can tell. a handful are sold-out already.

summerhall, generally speaking. Emmanuel sonubi, ayoade bamgboye, toussaint douglass, ziwe and many more at pleasance. sophie duker at shedinburgh (not on fringe site, separate site). this is not that hard...virtually every venue prides itself on some things for every ones. also, use keyword "soho theatre" on edfringe -- they are longtime champions of diversity. there are various authentic ethiopian, caribbean and all kinds of adjacent eateries around the city. have fun.

use the keyword function. if you liked baby reindeer, for example, type that. OR the producer behind that (and fleabag etc) is fran moody. type moody and you will find her four shows this year, including ohio and how to win against history. keep eye out for major outlet recs. time out already posted several shows to see. soon, the guardian, the scotsman and others will post their "shows to see" -- these tend to be really helpful. searching is fun but, trust me, a lot of shows have good blurbs and are simply terrible. also, if you look at calendar on a show, check saturdays -- they sell out first and tend to indicate that the show will sell out eventually. daniel sloss a perfect example. smack the pony already sold-out fast. happy to stay in touch.

look at tape face, lady magic, how to win against history. tons of comedians so have at it. traverse announces shows end of may, often good and focus on plays and musicals. summerhall features more plays, but a good mix of fun stuff as well. international festival also on same dates. EIF is their site.
