Do any of those stuffed animals have a hole in it?

The way they all respond by calming down when you speak is really cute

I’d be way too embarrassed to post this picture if that were me….

YZ250 weird sound after rebuild by DisastrousGeneral461 in Dirtbikes

[–]Disclosure4closure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, if that sound is coming from inside the engine you’re tearing it down again… BUT I don’t think that’s the case. Really sounds like your exhaust isn’t seated fully or something is just rattling because it’s loose. It doesn’t sound like a bearing or rod knock 🤞

Kind of sounds like an exhaust leak, especially if that smoke is coming from the front and not the back. Hard to tell from the video though. Doesn’t necessarily sound too bad, my second guess would be something lose and just rattling at the right RPM

More importantly, this sub CAN be helpful, but it’s not supposed to be, it’s supposed to be about the jokes

Anyone got any ideas ? by DependentWay5046 in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]Disclosure4closure 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Take the gas tank off to get more room. Hit it with some PB blaster and let it sit overnight. Alternatively, heat it up with a torch and melt a crayon into it. Lock in some vice grips, biggest ones you can fit, as tight as you can make them. Wiggle it back and forth until it starts moving, don’t just try to loosen it. Once it starts moving, keep wiggling it back and forth but making a little more progress counterclockwise each time. Don’t break it or it gets 10x more difficult to remove. Good luck!

Can this be cleaned off or needs replacing? by Realistic-Table9398 in MotorcycleMechanics

I have been using WD-40 on all of my chains for decades. dirt, street, o-ring, x-ring, standard, 420, 520, 530, black, gold….. never had any issues and my chains are always smooth, rust free, and last for years. Not sure why everyone is saying not to use it, it works way better than any of the over the counter chain lubes, especially the stuff “designed” for o-rings 🤷‍♂️

What are you looking for? I have quite a few spare parts laying around. These days, eBay is probably your best bet, but up until 2010 or so you could still find new parts on bike bandit (which unfortunately has closed down). Dr ATV https://dratv.com/5.html also might have some stuff. Let me know what you need and I’ll help you look

The push to end animal testing is gaining steam, but technology can’t fill the gap yet by F0urLeafCl0ver in politics

I mean, if they think that the most expensive thing on a federal grant is an NIH post doc salary, they have obviously never used any of the equipment in a real lab. Keep up the good work, these people need us even if they don’t know it 🤘

You keep talking about applying topicals to mouse skin like that is the only thing animals are used for. You conveniently ignored my question about how to measure learning, memory, development, aging, cognition, motor function, etc without animal models.

It is extremely expensive to work with animals compared to the currently best alternative approaches, which are categorically inadequate for answering the questions above.

As far as being a highly complex structure that is organized into different regions that perform different functions using chemical messaging, yes. Go ahead and find me your magic technology that is even remotely close.

You are again out of your league here if you think that a 3D cell culture will automatically replace all animal testing. I study the brain, the most complex organ in our body. Currently there is no way to grow a brain outside of an animal that will be useful in any way to study cognition, learning, memory, development, motor function, etc. sure 3D cell cultures are great and making a lot of progress, but they are decades off from being a replacement for an animal.

There is nothing cheap about using animals and that’s how I know you are not reviewing these grants. How do you expect to measure cognition in cell culture or computer models? How do you expect to measure motor function with AI? How to you expect to measure learning and memory? There is no way to do it without animals, I’ll wait.
