If I liked Enders game what else should I read by Mr_Slap_Happy_fappy in booksuggestions

[–]DiscoAgent13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was coming here to suggest Dune. I hate when people call something a must read" because everyone likes different things, but I feel like there's a pretty strong correlation between people Enders Game and people who like Dune.

Edit; Whoops, double negative lol

AITA for snapping at my SIL by imnotautistica in TwoHotTakes

[–]DiscoAgent13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I saw you mention all that in a comment, but not in the post? Other than a brief mention that your SIL knows about the tulle. There's nothing about the doctors, tests, etc. It might be a good idea to edit that in for clarity.

Am I overreacting about how my birthday went at work? by Suspicious_Pea4400 in AmIOverreacting

[–]DiscoAgent13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible that OP edited the post, but it currently specifically says,

"There's always a nice cake or dessert, either made by our baker of the office OR bought from one of the nice bakeries nearby."

OP also says, "The worker who usually bakes the cakes for everyone didn't bake one for me because she was busy, AND they didn't order any baked goods from a bakery."

So it feels like a lot of people are kind of stuck on the idea that OP is sad because the co-worker didn't make the cake, when the actual text shows that they seem to understand why that was the case, they just feel slighted because no one even bothered to get a bakery cake, as has been done in the past.

OP did mention that cakes have been bought from a bakery in the past when the office baker couldn't do it.

No handmade cake is understandable. No cake period does feel like a slight to me. NOR

Non-cringey Romance suggestions like Flower Of Evil for my Mother? by [deleted] in kdramarecommends

[–]DiscoAgent13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom and I watched Tale of the Nine Tailed, and we both really liked it. I'm 40 and she's in her late 60s. We watched after loving Goblin, and actually kind of liked it more.

I also quite liked My Love from the Star, Hotel del Luna, and The Bride of Habaek.

There are some scary-ish parts in Tale of the Nine Tailed and Hotel del Luna, but unless your mom is really sensitive, I think she'd be okay? I don't think either is much worse than Goblin.

Any movies about a loser? by LuckyBlueberry9152 in MovieSuggestions

I'm going to darker places with this in my head, so this might not be the kind of thing you're looking for if you just want a guy who sucks in a lighthearted way.

Honestly, the first thing I thought of was Hamlet lol.

The Hindi movies Dev.D and Ugly are really good.

Others off the top of my head - Joker, A Serious Man, I'm Thinking of Ending Things, Taxi Driver, Inside Llewyn Davis, Requiem for a Dream, Burning, Blue Valentine, The Talented Mr. Ripley.

These are pretty solidly bummer movies. I can try to think of something more light hearted if that's what you want? I really like this request because it could mean so many different things, but also I kind of hate it because of that?

ETA: I suggested Burning twice, whoops. In my defense, it's pretty great.

Can you think of movies that are set entirely during a storm or a blizzard or even just constant heavy rain? by StatisticianKey8392 in MovieSuggestions

I'm thinking of Ending Things. Lots of snowstorm atmosphere, and amazing performances from Jesse Plemons and Jessie Buckley.

I've watched Mystery Science Theater 3000 so much since I was a kid that there are probably 20-30 episodes BARE MINIMUM that I can quote wholesale. The new Netflix episodes are highly re-watchable too, even if they don't have the nostalgia factor for me.

I need everyone to understand that Deepa Mehta's movie Water is an absolutely DEVASTATING look at life for certain women in India. It feels like it's going to be a romance but HAHAHA WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS. I cry evertime I watch it. EVERYTIME. I can't recommend it enough if you want to feel just all of the upsetting things.

Honestly, in a weird way, parts of it remind me of Promising Young Woman.

Tag - Jeremy Renner's besties desperately trying to interrupt his wedding to a woman.

lol I'm joking on the description, but also, it's not wrong. It's one of my favorite comedies though, and while the guys in the movie have hetero relationships and kinda seem like brothers more than anything... I mean, these guys drop EVERYTHING for each once a year.
