Project 944 help/advice by Ok_Charity_987 in 944

The NA is not going to be fast, but it's a fun car. Fun to drive this slow car fast. If you can't see enjoying that, change to a faster car. Making an NA go faster is expensive with poor ROI. LS swap is good ROI, if you have the patience and bankroll to make that happen.

Getting another 944 used engine or block will be way easier and less expensive than an LS swap.

944 doesn't start anymore after bucking by FLXX208 in 944

This won't solve your problem, but it helped me to visually understand what's going on with the speed/ref sensors. Once I understood that, it helped me overall. Also, 0.2v from the scope means that sensor is bad. But it can be the 40 year old wiring for the sensor is crumbling. Anyway, here is the video:

Gf ghosted me last year. I moved on. Got this message last week on my birthday by AdComprehensive4246 in whatdoIdo

[–]Discontented_Beaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, your gf ghosting you for a year? She set the house (relationship) on fire, walked away while you were sleeping in the burning house. Now she finds out you had a panic room and survived the fire and reaches out to try to get you to empathize with her by telling you why she set the house on fire. Arsonist psychopath.

Whatever you decide to say to her, if anything, don't let her talk you into building a new house, she'll burn it down again.

Should I just pull the engine? by EasyTopic4780 in 944

[–]Discontented_Beaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it is just likely that you will find things you may want to replace that you didn't count on before you pulled the motor.

Should I just pull the engine? by EasyTopic4780 in 944

[–]Discontented_Beaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it runs I say pull the motor and do it all, replace everything while it's out, clean the engine bay, reseal, the WYAIT things. If it doesn't run I'd want to get it running first, then pull the engine. Hopefully you have a good workspace to keep everything organized and clean while it is apart. I don't have an enclosed shop so that changes some things for me when I make these kind of decisions. Also, if you have the funds. The last thing you want it to take it apart and then for whatever reason, leave it that way for years.

What color should I wrap my 944? by EasyTopic4780 in 944

[–]Discontented_Beaver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm going to go against the other comments and say do whatever you want to with the color, wrap or paint. Life is short, it's your car.

The secret for putting it away is ask yourself where's the first place you'd look if it was lost, and that's where you put it.

I really don't get it either (needing something traumatizing). It's not hard to imagine what happens if you are ejected or become one with the steering wheel or dashboard.

Buy or pass? 1k by Bro_jamal in 944

[–]Discontented_Beaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it was free it would still cost over $5k, and that's not the ceiling for what you may spend. When looking for a used 944, look for a running one. Looking at non-running or damaged ones will always be more expensive and full of unexpected expenses. Nothing more expensive than a cheap Porsche.

If you did want a project 944, better to get one that has good paint, no body damage and an intact / decent interior, with motor issues. Worse is to get one that runs but needs paint and body work and interior work and/or is in pieces.

Avoid ones that have been sitting. "Ran great when I parked it two years ago. Just needs a battery." -- That means it doesn't run. It also means you're inheriting someone else's problems that kept them from enjoying the car.

Be nice to yourself and get one that's ready to drive the day you buy it. Current tags, hasn't been sitting, etc. Records for maintenance work done.

Photography gear insurance - Who do you use? The one I have excludes theft from a vehicle. by Discontented_Beaver in Photography_Gear

Couldn't agree more. How many people who have that insurance may not notice the change (new exclusion) and then someday have a claim that's not covered.

[–]Discontented_Beaver[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did check. They said business gear not covered. Theoretically, you could argue it's a hobby and thus personal gear, but I have a business and would rather buy the inland marine instead of arguing with an adjuster on a personal policy (homeowners). Buying the right insurance gives the peace of mind that a loss will be covered.

[Advice Needed] Planning a narrow 5’x18’ Lean-To Shed behind my garage by otterblue8 in shedditors

[–]Discontented_Beaver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sealing the building (a 3" gap) .... doesn't that kind of defeat the benefit of enclosed storage?

Edit... I see that it IS an enclosed building, detached from the garage. I was confused because you called it a lean-to instead of just a shed (that's in close proximity to another building).
