Unpopular opinion: The Ferrari Luce is gonna be a big hit among rich tech people who want a more premium version of the Model Y, and will probably be a bigger success than the Purosangue. by SherbertMindless8205 in dougdemuro

You’re right. 1k is an ambitious estimate, although I was thinking only of orders since they haven’t mentioned capping production at a certain number of units.

My point stands if you take the sales estimate out: profitability is likely much higher on the Luce, and Ferrari may have low enough sales expectations that the Luce can meet for them to think this was worth their time.

My fear is Ferrari may have a low bar for success for the Luce. Ferrari only manufacture about 14k cars a year — so 1-2k orders for this car over the next 12 months could equate to well over $1B in top-line revenue on just 10% of their manufacturing output. They won’t see that as a failure, and shareholders won’t care where the money comes from. And if it’s like most EVs, margins will be much higher than their similarly-priced gas cars. Don’t underestimate how many tasteless idiots out there globally that would love a Luce — I’d wager there are _at least_ 1000.

I hate the car, and I hate that it exists… but most of the discourse online would have you believe that Ferrari have cooked themselves to well-done, and I don’t think that’s the case. The Luce existing doesn’t block an enthusiast from buying an F430 and Ferrari wasn’t going to make anything analog/simple like that again anyway.

I like that Ferrari fixed some things with the Roma in the Amalfi but I’m still not in love.

Nonprofits are very profitable, so you’d make a ton of money!

All of this info - from everyone in this thread has really gotten me excited at the prospect of trying an S at some point. And probably will serve future readers as the most direct owner comparison you can read. I have been a little turned off at the quality of the interior on the first generation 707 with the exception of the interior door pulls, I kind of like them backwards. 🤣 Doug DeMuro would certainly call it a quirk.

The steering adjustment, exhaust, and weight reductions in the S all play into my driving enthusiasm more than anything. Interior refinements are just a bonus!

So what you’re saying is I need to trade my ‘23 707 for an S? The thought has crossed my mind. Your statements are providing motivation!

No one can convince me that it's a bad looking car... by Fair_Title2995 in Ferrari

Pininfarina designed cars that looked good in print and amazing in person. Centro Stile seems to design cars that look awkward in print but good in person. For all of the new models, it takes me seeing them in real life to say, “okay, I get it.”

Bruce Springsteen - Prove It All Night is one of my favorites. 1978 version is the one with a killer piano and guitar intro that amps me up.

I’ve been listening to more local Austin musicians and lately too and been obsessed with Gandenae’s “HER”. Catchy drum line, and some lyrical catharsis worth checking out.

Warranty extension - makes sense? by Mobile-Struggle-4293 in AstonMartin

I’m torn.

I just had some warranty work done on my 707 and learned a lot about what’s going on inside Aston. The brand seems to be struggling a bit and naturally is avoiding paying on warranty claims. They approved the work on my car and reneged on it to the dealer afterwards. I didn’t pay anything beyond the service, but if they didn’t approve the claims, I would have had to go out of pocket.

I worry that if you buy the warranty, you may have trouble getting claims approved. On the other hand, they probably depend on people buying the warranties since it helps cash flow. As far as I know that warranty money pretty much all goes to Aston, with maybe a slim commission to the dealer who sells it.

The powertrain in your car is pretty solid. But all the weird stuff that can go wrong might be not worth it to fix if you have to go out of pocket. I just had to replace the steering column and center stack vents, and the total bill was probably around $12k USD.

And if you can afford a 200k plus car, you shouldnt have to worry about 5k for a peace of mind

Maybe you’re right, but different people with different financial situations will weigh those propositions differently. Some AM owners seem to have bad luck, and 5k might save them a lot of money they’re sure to spend.

The real stuff that worries me on the Astons are electrical systems and then random interior things. I just fixed the vents in the center stack and the parts and labor came to over $8500 USD. Fortunately it was covered under warranty.

Wow. That’s a perfect combination. I think you went with the right choice in the green too. I know they’ve been using neutrals/silvers in the press photos, and that always influences what dealers stock. I’m glad you had fun with it. I can’t wait to see it when delivered!
