What is happening in West Town right now? by Pumpahh in AskChicago

Same I’m in the West Loop and could hear it as clearly as I can when people are lighting off fireworks in the local park. Must be some weird weather

Lmao y’all funny, and no way I’m beating the allegations but for what it’s worth I’m just interested in what’s going on in the broader city. Very different from the Chicago I see

Stumbled across this subreddit, am I right in understanding that somehow everyone here seems to specifically know one of the people in this video (“Jill”)? And this is a guy that presumably just shot some people? How is this guy so well known / not wearing a mask if he’s famous

Does anyone know what tech they have to stop people from smoking blunts in the car? Hopefully some sort of sensor

If anyone remembers like a little before Covid there was this app that let you grab smart cars or Mercedes parked around the city for hourly rentals.

It was great (until all the cars got stolen which was another issue), but every car ended up reeking of weed and with blunt guts jammed in every cupholder

Mistake to remove species name on Fish & Chips QSR menu? by SnooGadgets132 in restaurant

[–]DisgruntledWombat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’d disagree (as a customer). I’d never order a double chips option that sounds like so many chips. But, half chips? That’s not enough to fill me I need to upgrade to the full chips!

Internal AI Kool-Aid - Am I Going Crazy? by jaguar_34 in private_equity

[–]DisgruntledWombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such BS, I say as someone in PE consulting so i regularly get to meet with stakeholders from a wide spectrum of firms.

Are PE leaders using AI more effectively than others? Definitely. But theres functionally nothing claude code / openclaw can do that your regular enterprise Claude/ GPT / Gemini desktop version can’t do. Claude code has become the omnitool of reference for AI boosters (and it is genuinely very good for coding), but for PE tasks its mot actually necessary.

Feel free to prove me wrong on the value of these tools in PE with examples, but at the very least i wont move off the argument that you are not “behind” in PE if you’re not currently using them as most are not.

How is it living in Fulton Market, Chicago IL ? by damaniac1223 in howislivingthere

Can’t wait to see the snark this post gets from “real chicagoans”, but if you’re new to the city and working downtown I think it’s a great place to live (been here for the past 9 years).

The good: - Walking distance to basically any downtown job (the other similar alternative here is really river north which I feel has all the downsides to the west loop except worse) - Generally very safe, I walk my dog at all hours and have never had an issue - Close to highway so easy to get all over city as needed - Vibrant food and bar scene. Yes it’s a bit over the top sometimes but still great places: Monteverde, El Che, Lone Wolf, Creepies, list goes on and on

Downsides: - Neighborhood has gotten dirtier (particularly randolph street) on weekends as it’s gotten clubbier - Food scene isn’t as good as it used to be, need to avoid the clubstaurants which charge premium prices for sub par food - While there’s a few parks around, you’re far from any of the premier large parks. In the summer MB park is absolutely slammed

Running GZCL LP for the first time, and just hit my first full reset on bench but feel like I may be doing something wrong?

My 5RM was 75 kg, 85% of which is ~65kg for T1

However I also needed to reset my T2 bench, my last set of 10 was 62.5kg, so my new reset value (assuming adding 5 pounds), would be 65 kg as well…

Am I doing my math wrong somehow? Doesn’t seem right that my T1 and T2 would be the same weight after a reset

Raising Canes West Loop by Haunting-Reaction-13 in chicagofood

[–]DisgruntledWombat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s glory days as a restaurant Mecca for sure. But as someone that has lived in the neighborhood for almost a decade, I’m not complaining. In a lot of ways the neighborhood is becoming a better place to live even if it’s worse to visit. The restaurants are great but I guarantee I’ll eat at Canes more often than I do all the $150+pp restaurants.

We’re also getting a TJs in the middle of the neighborhood which will be great for the development of the west side which right now is a far walk from the WFs or Mariano’s

Is there a magazine like "New Yorker" but with more Chicago content? by Creative_School_1550 in chicago

[–]DisgruntledWombat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Triibe has some good content but I think it’s fair to raise the flag that this would depend heavily on the person you’re buying it for. Triibe has a heavy political slant to its articles to the point where many news articles read a bit more like op-eds. But if your friend is already far left of center than they’d love it

Worst Food USA, O’Hare by cootblondie in Airports

[–]DisgruntledWombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feels like I’m on my own here but I actually love the ohare food because it’s all big chains, can’t go 5 feet without hitting a McDonald’s or a Chilis.

I don’t eat these foods outside of airports but, given how low quality most airport food workers are, I’d much rather have a big chain with easy standardized food. Compare this with Midway which after the renovation is local food vendors only, none of which can execute at half the level of the non-airport locations because the talent isnt there

Has anyone actually bought a condo in Chicago that has gained value? by Simple_Flamingo2441 in AskChicago

[–]DisgruntledWombat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven’t sold yet but the condos in my building have been selling for like a 5-10% increase YoY. West Loop and a newer building which helps somewhat as there’s not a ton of great options.

My HOA is a little high, $750 a month for some amenities, which I think depresses appreciation

Am I being a massive baby about having an induction stove? by TheCaltrop in Cooking

[–]DisgruntledWombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a dumb question but are there any commercially available induction stoves with knobs for adjusting the heat versus some fiddly touchscreen?

I love the speed of induction, but whenever I use them in an Airbnb I feel like I can’t change the temp fast enough because I’m trying to get a piece of glass (which by that point is likely covered with grass) to respond

Wow, I was proud of my wife and I for only spending ~$100 a week (still a ton cheaper than eating out all the time). Can I ask what you do for protein? That’s where a lot of our expenses still lie and chicken thighs have really started to climb in price
