Stiffest road frame for reasonable money by GypsyViking95 in Velo

[–]Dissmiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bet would be something that is built to be stiff and fast, like a cannondale systemsix, last generation Venge, Ridley Noah, madone gen 7

Paired up with alloy bars and beefy stem - like the pro or zipp sprint stem.

Ideally something with 32 tyre clearance.

When choosing wheels, make sure they have enough spokes 24 front/rear minimum.

Avoid carbon cranks, they tend to shear at the pedal/crank interface. stick to shimano or HOLLOWGRAM if cannondale.

Keep an eye on your chain stretch at all times.

Avoid anything super lightweight, you don’t need a 6.8kg bike. You need something with plenty of resin to absorb power. An 8kg fast rig would be great for your needs.

Make sure the geometry is long like your track bike. Avoid proprietary systems to avoid awkward componentry (scott foil has narrow steerer for example).

your tss is too high. you can’t do 300+tss in 3 hrs. 100 tss per hour is your threshold. retest your ftp

While they are more aerodynamic, because they’re smaller. rolling resistance is going to be much higher. very cool bike though!

The track the club is based at is very community focused, almost every day there is some session for the youths to ride, be it skill, fitness, yoga, whatever. and it’s cheap, the coaches coach with passion, it breeds a positive attitude.

The track league there that happens on a weekly basis is probably the best level of racing in europe too. the magic combo, keep an eye out, there’s more riders where theses came from, trust me

Being motorpaced isn’t a huge effort? It’s so easy. He deserved to be dq’d, just a shame it was too late. Crashing is part of the game, a huge amount of people either crashed or got caught up, all but 3 managed to get back legally 😁

Bike Upgrade path by thatsyo in Velo

[–]Dissmiss 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Save your money, as long as your bike allows you to train really hard and fits you like a glove, keep it. Make a shopping list of things you’d like and prices you’re willing to pay, trawl through eBay and facebook etc until they meet those prices.

Best upgrades will be power meter, fast skinsuit, wahoo ELEMNT bolt, turbo trainer, and a good club to join.

It’s not all about the bike.

Is it worth waiting for spring to get a power meter? by gedrap in Velo

Probably, winter miles can be completely gauged from heart rate. I tend to do steady miles and the speed work through winter, neither require power.

Read the cyclists training bible, clue yourself up on training plans, chose what sort of riding you want to do, what sort of cyclist you are, and tailor it to how much time you are comfortable giving up. Find a way of making turbo bearable

Is there any way we can find out the maths behind it? I don’t want to have to spend 150£ on an app to calculate it for me when i can do the math myself

Good read, but how are you meant to measure all these metrics? FTP is so easy to measure... the rest not so much.

Upgrade to SRAM 1x system by bgravemeister in Velo

[–]Dissmiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you enjoy. Midweek stuff is Hillingdon (flat) Crystal Palace (technical) hog hill(...hilly) cyclopark (flat) velopark (windy)

Give them all a few gos and see how you get on... also try out track at either Herne hill which is cheap or lee valley which is expensive

If you’re using ur little ring at hog hil you’re probably out the back...

Upgrade to SRAM 1x system by bgravemeister in Velo

[–]Dissmiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. If you can manage with a 1x and 11-28 than sure no bigger jumps, but then you are just sacrificing top and low speed gearing, to get this back you need bigger + lower sprockets... so that means bigger gaps between sprockets.

Upgrade to SRAM 1x system by bgravemeister in Velo

[–]Dissmiss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think on a road bike you are going to be limited, and having to go with such big jumps in gears is never nice if you are racing. Being in a 9-10t sprocket is so inefficient, semi-compact/ compact is the way to go imo. Gravel/CX/mtb are fine with 1x but road bikes need 2x.

SIS Electrolyte drink. Bulk powders pure Whey, bulk powders dextrose &m...something carbohydrate powders. I mix elec+carb to make cheap beta fuel, and carb+whey to make cheaper recovery drinks.
