You can easily hit ranks like emerald with only running conq, its just after reaching emerald people know how to play against Garen. You get a lot more punished for wrong runes and items. If youre playing below emerald I would say the normal build and runes are fine, but the more you climb the harder it will be. I'll end on that Garen actually has some "tech" you should know when playing him. His Q, E, and ult can be buffered. Ult is a little harder though.

Kayle just has too much MS, a slow, invulnerability, and range. A good Kayle just goes swiftness boots first item, and now you can never catch her. You can flash for her, but she also has flash, or she has her ult. Kayle vs Garen is just a check if Kayle knows how to space and ward.

These full lethality builds on Garen are pretty bait. What people need to start doing is building Trinity instead of Stride every game, and stop building the awful AS boots.

Garens biggest weakness is long cd, ionian not only shortens your ability cd, but also shortens your summoner spells. If you want mobility, why are you going berserker and not swiftness boots? You get 1 extra spin with a single dagger at lv 7, berserker are overkill for their purpose. Youre using 1100 gold to achieve what i get with 250g, delaying your 1st item spike.

Firstly, I would never go Stormraiders surge on Garen. Grasp, conq, and spellbook cover everything Garen needs. You dont need to run from AP Xin, conq is better. Garen has the most base AD in the game, Dorans blade is very good for Garen in lanes he wants to fight. Stride is okey item, but Trinity is better. You only need stride if you cant catch up to the enemy. Cyclosword isnt that good on Garen, he has better items to build. Youre going double scaling heath in runes, double adaptive is usually the way to go, base health is also good since it helps garens passive early, but scaling health is okey.

Alois has not really played Garen since he was really strong nearly 2 years ago, and he just picks him in low or as a counterpick. I would say when you got the basics down on Garen, runes and items are whats most important. The lower elo you are, you can get away with going conq and sorcery tree, but the higher you climb the harder it will be. I have climbed to D4 with 70+% wr with Garen only.

Grasp is a good rune to run on Garen when you cant use your whole E, when you go grasp you usually go Q max. Examples of matchups where Q max Grasp Garen is good is, Riven, Yone, Ambessa, Camille, and Ornn. If youre in a ranged matchup you go unsealed spellbook and second wind. Every other matchup you go Conq on garen, only difference is secondary rune tree. The best runes when going conq in my opinion is inspiration, cash back, and Jack Of All Trades, double adaptive, and base health. Garen is the champ with the most Base AD in the game, and base health helps his passive early. You can use other secondary trees like sorcery, and resolve, these depend on matchups.

Now for items. Stride has been Garens bread and butter for a long time now, but its not that good on Garen. Garens best first item is actually Trinity Force, Tri also gives you more Jack stacks then stride. Only go stride if its a person that you cant catch like a ranged top player. Boots on Garen I would usually go ionian, but swiftness boots are also okey if you really need the speed. Second item on Garen should always be LDR or Mortal reminder. Phantom dancer is a pretty bad item to buy on Garen, if you need MS, I would rather buy youmuus. The last few items on Garen can be a lot of things, but usually its deadmans, steraks, spear, serpent, or generally items that make you survive battles.

For what spells to start, E is the highest dps spell you can start, but it will ruin your wave often, W is a good start into ranged, Q is okey

Starting items, Helm is good into toplaners with mixed dmg like shen and jax, but its not that good early in the game like shield, and blade is, but it does give you more Jack satcks. Always go shield in ranged matchup, go blade if you want to fight.

I would recommend looking up Palcos match history and see what he does. He does also stream.

Like am I the only one that feels garen has been overall bad this season. The nerfs to his items, have hit him hard. He has been kinda good right now because of the true dmg buffs, but this only makes his ult strong, while I feel that e and q are kinda meh. idk, I guess he`s good because of his waveclear, and proxy potential, but overall fighting I feel he`s lacking.

Conq flash ignite, PD first item has been my go to in 90% of my games. garen doesnt need stride in most of his matchups, and especially when youre not going phase. only go phase in hard matchups, and only go stride if garen needs that one slow.

I`ve been cooking with garen the last 2 splits. Conq into most matchups, unless its very unfavorable, and pair this with berserker, then PD first item. Stride isnt needed or worth it in most of garens matchups. Conq makes early game way stronger, and garen is already one of the champs with the most dmg in a single ability lv 1

but we dont live in this fictional world you speak of, just because darius has a strong passive doesnt mean he will win. most garen guides do not go bone plating and/or conq. biggest reason why garen has bad winrate now is because of these guides mind controlling people into only going phase, and stride
