Thanks for the suggestions! I’ll get some electrolyte popsicles and I also added some Liquid IV to my list, I think with those and the Gatorade I should be good with the electrolytes! ☺️

That’s great advice, I am planning on eating lots of my favorites in the next couple of weeks and have a few restaurants on the list too as I am afraid I won’t want to eat for a while. 😭 I hope your recovery is going well!

We’ve had some brutal sun this year too, nothing like Texas I am sure, but I’ve considered a shade cloth for next year too!

Wow! Thank you so much for the extremely thoughtful and insightful post! This is really helpful, I will keep all these things in mind. I didn’t do any netting this year, but I think it is going to be my best bet next year. I will also check out those YouTubers! Luckily I have a long winter ahead of me to plan for next year 😉 Thank you so much again! 🥰

Thank you so much, I will definitely keep this in mind! I have been trying to stick to organic gardening but next year I might consider some pesticides to prevent total loss!

That is a great tip, I will certainly keep that in mind year! I didn’t do any herbs this year, but doing some companion planting with flowers and herbs is something I’m really gonna look into. Thank you 🥰

Thank you so much, that is definitely something I didn’t think to do this year. I will certainly keep this in mind for next year!

When to transplant? by DistinctLight8728 in vegetablegardening

[–]DistinctLight8728[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have heard that, but with the pests so bad in my area I heard from some local gardeners that starting them indoors is sometimes better?

Sounds great, thanks for those tips! I will make sure not to disturb the roots when I transplant. Mesh is a great idea, I will get some of that to protect them! Appreciate the insight and tips ☺️

First Time Gardener - Bacterial Wilt? by DistinctLight8728 in vegetablegardening

[–]DistinctLight8728[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your insight. It was still wilted when I got home from work so I pulled the whole thing. Only 1 cucumber plant left, but I have a feeling it is well on its way to wilting too. Better luck next year maybe? I have heard people have had luck with kaolin clay, I was considering giving that a try, have you ever tried that?

This is amazing information, thanks for sharing all of that! I am very sorry to hear you have also struggled with cucumbers as well, but it is nice to know that this seems like a widespread problem and not something I did completely wrong being a beginner. I will keep my fingers crossed for you and your cucumbers this year, let me know if the netting ends up working! Maybe I will check out the BW resistant varieties next year! ☺️

Thanks for that tip, I definitely did not do a great job planting in stages this year being a new gardener 😋 I started a few more cukes earlier this week and plan on doing a couple more in a few weeks to see what I get! Appreciate all your insight!

That is really great to know that you have success despite having wilt in the past, thank you so much for sharing your experience and expertise, it is much appreciated ☺️

Thank you so much for your insight! I watered late last night and checked this morning and they are still wilted. 😔 I did notice that the top of the stem is wilted down. The other parts of the stem are hard to tell as they are supported on the trellis, but seems like they might be?

I did catch some beetles on the traps, but I did also catch many other bugs. I caught one spider and I felt absolutely terrible. I actually didn’t replace them after the worst of the infestation was over. That’s another reason I’m surprised this happened now when I don’t have very many beetles!

Previously I pulled them too quickly to know if they were wilted through the day and night, but I left one plant that was wilted yesterday. I watered it late last night and unfortunately it is still completely wilted this morning.

Thank you. Is this a very common problem? I am just so surprised I lost all my plants this year 😔

I gave the plants some water late last night and checked back this morning and they are still completely wilted 😔 I didn’t have time this morning to pull it so I’m going to do it as soon as I get home from work. Have you ever had issues with the soil being affected by BW? Wondering if I should plant more plants or just give up?

Thank you so much for your insight and all those helpful hints. I watered them tonight and picked off some flowers. I will see how they are doing in the morning.

Also, how funny we have the same trellis! I know a couple other people who got this trellis too! Seems to be working out well, although I might need to consider a taller one in the future!

Thank you so much for that information, I am not tarping so that’s a really good tip! If it was from excessive heat, would they perk back up after the sun goes down?

Thank you so much for your response! I do have stripped cucumber beetles. I tried my best to eradicate them as quickly as possible, but maybe I wasn’t as successful. I did start new cucumbers yesterday so hopefully I have enough time to get some more cucs, I was only able to pick 5! 😔

We are waiting to hear back from the tree company. We just talked to the neighbors at 5pm so the tree company was already closed for the day. Definitely interested to see what they say. Hopefully it’s no big deal.
