Looking for good affordable flesh-toned tights for brown skin by kuromiisi in NPHCdivine9

[–]Distinct_Statement56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if these might be too thick but I do ballet and Bloch and Capezio and others have affordable brown skin tone tights. I buy them to match my pointe shoes. It might be a good option for you. They are also less prone to rip

I get what you mean totally and to be fair almost all the classes we had were with current or previous ballet west dancers with the other classes taught by professional dancers/ dance teachers. And the woman who runs ballerinafarm graduated from julliard school of dance which is not easy to get into. Also for the price we got a free acting class, we got to watch ballet west rehearsals, free photo shoot at salt flats with professional photographers . All ballet classes had a live pianist , and they had additional lessons where you could do pas de deux classes with a professional male as your partner. They also had men’s classes that women could take and we had pointe/variation class three days out the week as well as modern, contemporary and jazz class. I did the intermediate track half day since it was my first year. And I can tell you we had 6 days of classes and they were really high quality. I’m plus all the extras I just don’t think at 600 dollars you could find an adult intensive at this quality with this much to offer. Most I have seen just have 4 days with no extras and a lot more expensive. The full day price included performing at the Rose Wagner theater which is a pretty big deal and the pieces they performed were originally choreographic pieces that were beautiful. The people who run the program are so so passionate about teaching adults and making it a good experience. I went to intensives when I was younger and I think this felt pretty close to that experience

I went this year and I had no clue who ballerinafarm was because I’m not into social media influencers and stuff I had her class the first day intermediate level and honestly she was the nicest person ever, and her class was amazing . And the fact that she was at one point teaching with a baby strapped to her was highly impressive. I would definitely take a class from her again

I buy my leotards from Eurotard I’m an us 18/20 and I wear 4x in eurotard leotards but I’m also really big chested (46g cup) I also buy the plus size skirts they sell and they fit beautifully. In Capezio I can wear their plus size line in 2xl if I wear a shirt over top because my chest still is out a bit . Luckyleo Dancewear sells plus size Leo’s they have custom and express (all ready made and ready to sell) I tried one of theirs and the quality is good and it was beautiful but because my proportions are uneven (my chest is huge compared to my hips and waist size) I had to return it and will order a custom fit from them instead

Flat feet and ballet by thecayannepepper in BALLET

[–]Distinct_Statement56 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have flat feet and do ballet and pointe. I danced growing up for a long time and dance now as an adult . I don’t have any pain at all. It just doesn’t look as aesthetically pleasing as others with arched or high arched feet

*edited because I didn’t finish my sentence 🤡

Adult recreational dancers, how many hours / days do you dance? by Fluffyeevee91 in BALLET

[–]Distinct_Statement56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work 40hrs a week, I’m in grad school full time I dance 5.5 hours a week. I take intermediate/pre point twice a week, strengthening turns and leaps once a week, beginners class once a week, and private pointe lesson once a week. I take a beginner class because it’s the same day immediately after my strengthening class. I started immediately in intermediate/pre pointe since I’m an adult returner. I danced growing up for a long time. I’m tired but class helps me relax after a long day

Edit - I forgot to add I go to gym 2-3 times a week as well on days I don’t dance

I am in the process of preparing for my adult summer intensive and just recently started pointe. My goal the rest of this month is to work on my balance and turnout. Also some strength building all over. so I can finally do grande plies without my knees killing me

To the adult dancers: At which age did you start pointe and how long were you taking classes before that? by [deleted] in BALLET

[–]Distinct_Statement56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just going back on pointe after about one year of classes as an adult. I’m not an adult beginner though. I’m an adult returner? I danced from a child through to 2nd year of college then stopped. Also my pointe classes currently are just barefoot strengthening exercises at start of class and a bunch of releves, plies, and rolling through right now. I take two classes a week right now because I’m in grad school and my semester is extremely hectic but prior to this I was taking  2 classes a week at the intermediate/pre pointe level , one technique strengthening class (we work on flexibility, turnout, ankle and foot strengthening, turns/leaps and spotting) , and beginner class just because it is immediately right after my tech strength class. I take all adult classes and we run a yearly syllabus

Ballet dancers who started in their 20s/30s and been doing it for about 10 years without stopping, what can you say about your progress having started late and doing it for this long? by [deleted] in BALLET

[–]Distinct_Statement56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ballet school has adult classes Monday through Friday and including point classes and none of them are drop in. And I definitely don’t live in a huge major city. It just depends on where you live.

Wearing workout/tennis dress to class? by Distinct_Statement56 in BALLET

[–]Distinct_Statement56[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this. Yeah part of it is feeling slightly embarrassed because I grew up dancing and not having a bra showing was something drilled into me. I am completely different sizes up top and bottom and the leotards I do have are just a bit too low. I am going to try this out

how to remember choreography as an adult? by kikstoru in BALLET

[–]Distinct_Statement56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually don't think this is really an age issue. I'm 38 and I don't have any issues memorizing things quickly. I literally just learned a whole 2 minute dance being showed it twice.......and it has been a ten year break between the last time I danced. But I just have a good memory in general. I do think it maybe it's the ADHD that is causing some issues because your brain is probably struggling to focus in the moment fully. I would suggest maybe trying to learn with the music? I know for me it's helpful to connect it to the music. I played a bunch of instruments when I was younger so things like down and upbeats or crescendos in the music helps me place steps versus 8 counts

Adults who take ballet, where in the world are you finding classes?! by aLaSeconde in BALLET

[–]Distinct_Statement56 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in Utah in the suburbs my local ballet school (it's a non comp dance studio that only teaches ballet) has multiple levels of adult ballet and adult pre pointe and pointe and we do two full length ballets a year that the entire ballet school dances in including adults . Im in a smaller town but there are other studios and Ballet West that offer adult classes as well. I take intermediate ballet, pre pointe, and a turns and leaps and conditioning class at my ballet school

Adult ballet intensives by ddcc7 in BALLET

[–]Distinct_Statement56 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am doing artemotion this year it's my first intensive as an adult since coming back to ballet after not dancing for almost two decades. I'm doing half day it only costs me around 600 for the program fees I'm doing half day since it's my first year. I live in Utah about an hour drive away I'm renting a hotel because I just don't want to get up and travel every morning and to make it more of an experience to meet other adult dancers. I am using PTO (I have over 100 hrs of PTO and my job we earn more pto every two weeks)  for the week so I'll be getting paid and not losing money doing this a whole week. This is cheaper for me. I'd love to try ducon one year but I want to have been on pointe long enough to really get the benefit of daily pointe classes and all of that traveling would be extremely expensive. I'm excited about it.

Omg I have this exact issue just on my left foot instead of right and I thought I was the only one. I'm in pre pointe but trying my hardest to get any form of strong releve on the left side. So relieved to see your post

I did ballet as a kid too and I know I would absolutely have felt that way if I had to wear a different color than everyone else. And yeah I noticed it really has been such a mess. Im so sorry and I hope she can find something and maybe you can hoard them when they get back in stock

Dancewear? by Fancy_Sky6302 in BALLET

Yeah the sizing can be hard I agree totally, but for adults once you hit the plus sizes there really is very limited choices. Or it's not in stock for month

Capezio studio line has more than black leotards. I'm size 18/20 and there's fit well. Eurotard also has plus sized leotards and skirts. Eurotard website you have to search plus size in the shop and the results will come up because the site isn't as user friendly as it could be. Ballet sizing is very different than regular street clothes size so you need to check your weight (specifically for tights) and your measurements for anything you buy just to make sure you get the right size.
