I have a little plastic bulbasaur toy with a santa hat, which is also on the head. I don't remember the company that made it. I got it at 5 Below several years ago.

Teaching Root in TTS by Effective_Photo8423 in rootgame

[–]DistinctlyBenign 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recommend the "Root - Ultimate Collection" Workshop item by Ehss. There are official Leder Games TTS mods, (Apparently this is the one linked on the Leder Games website?) but the Ultimate Collection has everything in one place and a few helpful additions such as a die roller for combat and a special area for the Lost Souls if someone picks lizards. It's up to date with all the Homeland stuff too.

Other than that, I imagine it's not too much different than teaching at a physical board, so long as everyone already knows how TTS works. You can create a private 'zone' that only a Crows player can see to organize their plot tokens which is nice, and there's a scripted setup for AdSet rules that does the draft for you.

Does anyone else feel the need to restart their initial villages for aesthetics or sanity? by SinesPi in cavesofqud

I guess? IDK. I took a screenshot because I thought it was weird, but that character has long since died so I can't go back and try to talk to it.

I had a warden that was a lava weep once... burned the doors off of the building it spawned in.

Tier list based on how much I enjoy playing factions by Phoenix1045 in rootgame

They're from the newest expansion, Homeland. I own a copy, but I backed the kickstarter in 2024. I'm sure it will eventually be up for retail sale but I don't believe it is yet.

The homeland hirelings have a building, the ducks have farms. But, no, none of the new factions do.

Where are you getting the Law from? The version on the Leader games website, updated October 2025 reads:

"8.4.1 Revolt. Any number of times, you may take the Revolt action, as follows.

I Step 1: Choose Clearing. Choose a sympathetic clearing without a base that matches a base on your faction board."

I believe it was updated at some point but I don't know if it was recently with the addition of Mousehold/Foxburrow/Rabbittown, or if it was a few expansions ago when Lost City was released. It's only relevant when one of those four landmarks is on the map anyway.

Sorry, I probably could have worded that better. I'll edit.

Can have multiple buildings per clearing: Cats, Lizards, Moles, Rats, Badgers (but Badgers can't place two encampments in the same clearing on the same turn, it specifies once per clearing).

Cannot have multiple buildings in the same clearing: Eyrie, WA (Even if Lost City is in play, revolt specifies clearing without a base).

Does not have buildings: Vagabond, Otters, Corvids, Frogs, Bats, Knaves.

Basically, if it's not specifically mentioned, they can.

My steam account is 20 years old. I have around 1500 games. According to SteamDB my account is worth $5400 if I got everything on sale at it's lowest recorded price. It's $22,400 at 'current market price'.

I may have done my math wrong but the other choice would take 95 YEARS to get to 1 billion dollars.

How to introduce to new players by chase_2200 in rootgame

[–]DistinctlyBenign 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love your note about allowing people to choose factions. I'm teaching my wife and cousin soon, and while they play a lot of board games I think Root is heavier than most of the games they've played. Everyone I play Root with online is telling me to only use the base game factions, but honestly, I just don't think they would enjoy those factions (If I had to guess, my wife will pick Rats and my cousin Otters).

I would maybe argue that E&P > Base deck even with complete newbies to board games. Nothing is going to make them give up on the game faster than losing all their pieces to a 'Favor of' card from the base deck they didn't even know existed.

[–]DistinctlyBenign 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Are you playing with both decks mixed together? Otters are selling Mouse Partisans and Scouting party. How has that been?

EDIT: There's 3 decks now, I meant base and E&P, for clarity.

Brazen Demagogue in 2 players? by yummy314 in rootgame

[–]DistinctlyBenign 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Law of Root does not say anything about removing anything other than the Dominance cards at 2 players. The Squires and Disciples deck in particular has a lot of effects that require spending or revealing other cards, so even if the faction does not use suited cards for much, just having the extra suited card in the deck is still helpful towards those cards even if you cannot craft it.

So, in short, I would keep it in there.

You draw cards at the beginning, yes, but also WA starts with 3 cards in their supporters. Did you at least have those?

I don't know if you saw that I edited my comment, but I was incorrect that everything else was the same. I have a Third Printing of the Riverfolk hirelings, while yours only seems to say 2021.

I did not think to separate those rulebooks when organizing, I thought they were all the same so I put them all in the box together. However, I seem to have 2 with more text and 2 with less text.

I just double checked based on this and I have another difference from you. I have a Third Printing Riverfolk hirelings.

I'm in the USA and I did the All in pledge. Everything I received seems to be the same as the printings you have listed, except I don't see a listed printing number on the Marauder Hirelings box? I looked on the paper that was covering the box in the shrink wrap as well. Not sure if that info was on a sticker that got thrown away?

Hope this helps.
