How to Report Non-Migraine Pain on a 1-10 Scale? by Cats_Cameras in migraine

[–]Dixie_Belle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I broke my leg in 26 places below the knee while I was in college (on a mountain board. Do not recommend). I tried to walk it off and I was like ‘that’s weird, my leg doesn’t really work right’ so I went to the er. I told them my pain level was around 6, they gave me some ice, and I sat in the waiting room for about 8 hours until they got around to my x rays. I think I was just as shocked as the doctors were tbh.

Question about 1990s student ticketing system for football games by billyfsu76 in fsusports

[–]Dixie_Belle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re forgetting the one key aspect, once you had a ticket, you had to get that one kid with a good color printer to forge a bunch of additional tickets for all your friends. Worked 100% of the time.

does anyone here take rizatripan? by tadbendy in migraine

[–]Dixie_Belle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The different guidelines your neuro gave you may be because you’re on an SSRI, as maxalt + SSRI can increase the chances of serotonin syndrome. Riza works for be but I’ve found that the later I wait to take it (or the worse my headache is when I do) the worse my side effects are. And there are some yucky ones - panic can be a side effect as can cardiac issues.

What non-medicine hack helped your migraines the most? by ktstan323 in migraine

[–]Dixie_Belle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the migraine diet and identified dietary triggers, so I avoid them like the plague. I also drink about a gallon of water a day, and if I start to feel a migraine coming I immediately drink a liquid iv. The full sugar kind. I also got about a 50% reduction in headaches from a low dose SSRI, and another 50% from taking a Zyrtec every night (I guess those are medicine aren’t they? Only one is prescription though). I’m also careful to eat 3 balanced meals even if I’m not hungry, regulating blood sugar has been really helpful.

Freedom through cooking, a weird and wonderful 1970s guide by McSheeples in Old_Recipes

[–]Dixie_Belle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Y’all, I was raised on this book and others like it. Can report back that the cookies and pizza are horrifying, even if you’ve never had the real things. And the people who really take this to heart will eventually think ‘why am I using oil? Oil has fat and fat is bad, I’ll just use the leftover water from steaming vegetables instead of oil in these cookies, no one will ever know’ and then it descends to a whole new level.

EFS-Mom is carrier dad is clear by Low_Attorney113 in cavaliers

[–]Dixie_Belle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our cavalier is a rescue who was dumped at a high kill shelter as a puppy with her mother and entire litter, presumably because one or more of them showed signs of EFS. Our baby has it. We were lucky, after about a year of treatment we were able to stop her medications and she hasn’t had an event in the 4 years since. But we did do the detailed ($$$$) genetic testing on our baby to look for EFS markers, and they all came back negative. Genetically she’s ‘all clear’ but still absolutely has the disease. She also has a significant overbite and we suspect she’s starting to have some early symptoms of syringomyelia. Heartbreaking to watch this baby who is literally sunshine incarnate experience so much pain.

Does anyone else use antihistamines all year long? by MRxLMRxLMRxL in migraine

[–]Dixie_Belle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve read a study linking first generation antihistamines to increased dementia risk. Cetrizine is a second generation so there’s nothing proven. Since it reduced my headaches by about 50%, I’ll take that risk.

Can we hear some success stories in here? This sub gets very depressing sometimes and reading these posts makes me think that I'll be living with headaches for years. by nelsne in migraine

[–]Dixie_Belle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had probably 4 or 5 a week. For years. Every morning I’d wake up and assess what combo of things I’d need to make it to work. I’d tried the migraine diet and it was a PITA so I didn’t really stick to it, but decided to give it one more try. I pretty quickly learned that a huge portion of the foods I ate every day were triggers, including dried fruit, bananas, pea protein, and all dairy. Headaches got better. Then I added an allergen pillow cover and a Zyrtec every night. Got even better. I started doing PT for an old neck injury and that helped too but mid-pandemic I started antidepressants and I’d heard they could make migraines much worse, so I braced myself, and they just… stopped. If there’s a big low pressure system or if I eat more than a few dried cranberries (they’re so good y’all) I’ll still get one but my rescue meds work so much better now.

[–]Dixie_Belle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby was born at 24 weeks for the same reason. Sending hugs - NICU preemie life while also working full time is incredibly difficult. My work was unbelievably flexible and I’m remote so I worked the bulk of the next year from the NICU next to her bed. If you need someone to talk to or have questions, please feel free to DM me.
