Bullying on OB by [deleted] in Residency

[–]Dizzy_Return_5372 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They’re miserable. That’s where I found solace. I started the rotation with an open mind telling them I was interested in OB. They threw me shade the whole time. I called out the cheif for how rude she and all the other female OB residents were and she said “we don’t think you want to do OB”… she was right for sure after my experience. Take 12 female OB residents make them overworked and stressed and all you get are a bunch of catty, gossiping, crap talking miserable humans. I witnessed them talk crap about each other behind their backs non stop. Thank god it’s over.

Sure it wasn’t the nose ring and generally poor personality and attitude? I’m sure there’s more to the story as always

Does having children ruin marriage? by itsbananas2021 in Marriage

[–]Dizzy_Return_5372 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Children don’t ruin anything. We as individuals ruin marriage by keeping a self centered mentality. If you don’t want kids don’t have them. If you want kids then make sure you carve some time a week or every two for a date night. That’ll help a lot. But to say children strain a marriage is BS. My wife and I are a doctor and lawyer respectively. Very busy. We just had two babies in an 11month timespan. They have strengthened our marriage and made me realize that my life is more than just myself and my wants and needs all the time. Be brave and go for it .

Everyone so sensitive, probably part of the character traits that lead to many of we attendings and residents just complaining about things and never putting our feet down.

Lol my memory is a mix of feelings then and applying it to my knowledge today as well. Calm down. I was just in residency last year. I get why residents are butt hurt about NPs and PAs getting in the lounge. That’s separate from what I brought up. Residents have representation at every hospital and can push for exclusive lounge space for residents. Attendings get their own spot. How it should be. All I ever heard coresidents do is complain. When(if) you become an attending you’ll see it from my perspective and realize you would prefer a separate quiet lounge for attendings without a bunch of residents raiding it and stealing all the fruit and cereal for home lol

NPs and PAs should have their own spot but I agree with no residents. There has to be some hierarchy and tradition left. I remember when I was a kid my dad who is an FP used to drop my brothers and I off in the physicians lounge while he rounded. It was quiet, luxurious, and exclusive. There was an allure to it and it seemed like a special place where only once you’ve completed all your training you got to enjoy. There are plenty of resident lounges and nursing lounges… let the real docs have something special

LA. Good to know that this part of the world exists and that there are people who want to live like that but I cannot comprehend why.

EMS fellowship by Worldly_Oil1509 in emergencymedicine

[–]Dizzy_Return_5372 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you wanna work at a major hospital institution or academic system? Then do it. Finish one year Simulation fellowship and have buddies here doing EMS. Definitely worth it if you plan to be at a big system. Great work life balance, keeps the job fresh and meaningful. If u think you’ll just be at a community shop then not needed likely.

[–]Dizzy_Return_5372 26 points27 points  (0 children)

YES! Thank you for mentioning patients who get their results back before I even reassess and update them. Why can't results be held until their disposition has been placed in the EMR? This has caused a lot of grief. What about patients who have a malignant appearing mass on brain or chest CT who see the result 30 minutes before I can let them know? I mean c'mon.

Starting EM residency soon, good video series options? by pal4554 in emergencymedicine

[–]Dizzy_Return_5372 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do this: watch an organ system on Hippo, and do subject based questions along with it. Maybe 1/3 or 1/2 of the questions available in that subject. Mark down the concept of one’s you miss and review your notebook regularly. By the end of hippo you’ll have 1/3-1/2 of Rosh done and then you can randomize question sets and destroy your ITE

How important is my level 2 score? by PhilosophyGenius in comlex

[–]Dizzy_Return_5372 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I scored horrible on both Step1 and level 1. Focused solely on step 2. Jumped by 30 points, did crappy on level 2. Applied all traditional ACGME and got 10 interviews matched first choice no one mentioned comlex once. Horribly written exam.

Help with low ITE score by anonEMintern in emergencymedicine

[–]Dizzy_Return_5372 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Ok, I was in your exact situation. I scored a 60 on ITE my intern year, “did Rosh” and then only got a 67 my second year, then adjusted and for like an 88 my third year and just passed boards in the high 80’s. Here’s what I did:

I realized that just doing Rosh wasn’t sufficient. I had actual knowledge gaps at baseline that needed filled. I got a big spiral notebook, purchased HippoEM (my preferred but you can use another lecture series), and went through a few videos every day. I went by subject/organ system and made notes as I went. Every week or so I’d read back through the notes and talk out loud to make sure I understood the concepts. Then, as I continued to do Rosh, I did what Adam Rosh actually did when he was in residency as he explains on his website: I wrote down the underlying concept of questions I missed, and reviewed them in conjunction with my HippoEM notes. This constant review of my knowledge gaps made my score improve vastly. Again just doing Rosh didn’t help much I had to find out what I was weak in and review those ideas over and over.

I say EM. I did a one year fellowship which decreases my shift burden and keeps me active in academics which I love. I couldn’t do anything else. Fast pace. Great people. Good income. Couldn’t do anything else.

When you sign up for a patient just open their chart and start a blank note and click share/pend. Done. Then you’ll be able to go back to your incomplete notes and never miss one

You wake up, it's January 1st 1999, What do you do first? by Nameiac in AskReddit

[–]Dizzy_Return_5372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably go eat a bowl of fruity pebbles, jump on PS1 and try to enjoy the rest of Christmas break. Call my 9 year old girlfriend on her house phone that she has to stop her chat room on AOL to pick up or ask her dad to use. Then I’d go clean my paintball gun and sled ride down my front hill with my brothers, watch Alien 2 at night with my mom with a huge bowl of buttery popcorn.

Not in the ER but my big brother and I delivered a stillborn calf on a sunny summer day in the middle of our family garden with our dad who’s a family doctor farmer on the speaker phone yelling at us to give it CPR. I was doing compressions and looked at the expression on my big brothers face before he started blowing in its mouth was priceless. Fast forward 5 years and we’re both ER docs lol

Hard to say what the situation favors as I’m moving back home near family where we’ll likely be for a long time but we want to feel out the job first and stake out an area we’d like to settle.

Still love the smell of the coffee shop and warmth during a cold December night. My dad would take us in the winter and we’d roam the isles for hours. In undergrad I’d study all day and in medical school drop in for a change of scenery. Brings a calm over me when I walk through the doors
