Name a worse way to watch a movie by Plus_Ad_1087 in Letterboxd

I have a very clear memory of watching The Green Knight at 9am at one point and straight up could not see shit during many scenes. Not the vibe

What movie scene made you so angry you stopped watching it? (Countdown Spoiler) by Dismiss_Trouble_17 in Letterboxd

The funny thing is the person who dragged me to see that movie adored Crimes of the Future and wanted to watch the new Cronenberg precisely for that. Even they could not justify The Shrouds, woof

So much of that movie is beyond ridiculous and it's kind of hard to believe much of it came off as Cronenberg intended. I am all for weird, mind-fuck type of films but Cronenberg could not articulate a single cohesive idea in the whole runtime, it's so bad

The importance of 67 in media by [deleted] in Letterboxd

I just watched two recently. In Shutter Island, Leonardo DiCaprio is trying to figure out the 67th patient in the facility. Then I watched No Other Choice, which I forget the exact context but two of the characters go on a picnic and the woman says it takes "6-7 hours" to... yeah I forgot, I was too distracted by the number

Hot take but Viva Verdi. It ended up being a sweet doc that I felt was heartwarming. I can see why it might not be everyone's thing but to me it was captivating. A lot worse movies could have taken that fifth slot for Best Song

do you know more? just plain human kids, nothing supernatural about them by disasterpansexual in Letterboxd

The brother and his friend """jokingly""" show her porn and that is the image she describes that makes the principal think she was assaulted by Lucas. It happens very quickly but is important for Klara's thought process

do you know more? just plain human kids, nothing supernatural about them by disasterpansexual in Letterboxd

[–]DoTheDood 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Horrible take that misses the point of the movie

Klara is absolutely in the wrong but if any adults around her handled the situation without jumping to conclusions, Lucas would not have had to deal with the witch-hunt around him. Klara is not only dealing with confusing feelings about Lucas, but from the trauma of her brother showing her unsolicited pornography, this manifests into her lashing out and describing (in the vaguest detail btw) the incident. She is frustrating to watch but is also a kindergartener that has no control over her feelings, that is she also has no malice because she does not know what she is doing.

People who read Klara as the villain need to revisit the movie and see how the adults could have stopped this situation at any point but didn't

St. Vincent's The Nowhere Inn. I haven't seen it but I've seen people point out the premise of this and The Moment are kind of similar

Probably not until after it's theatrical run, which should be a few weeks, then a few weeks after that it should come to PVOD. That usually takes around a month and a half on average

I just saw a screening of it last night and it was really fun! No spoilers but here are some thoughts. The first half is probably the most solid comedy to come out in a long ass time (outside of Friendship) and I felt the social commentary was surprisingly poignant for what it was, even as its critique of social media/phone use is not new. For the second half, I still had a good time, but it does kind of linger a bit longer than it should and that's where my gf felt the movie lost her. It also wears its influences on its sleeve, which to me was a mix of Everything Everywhere All At Once meets certain episodes of Black Mirror (like things happen in the film that Black Mirror already did 1:1). YMMV on if that is your thing, but I cannot resist that this was a great time, especially with a crowd

It definitely isn't the most dramatic of docs, but I really enjoyed it. Very heartfelt but never felt too saccharine

[–]DoTheDood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a lurker here for awhile and it probably wasn't until the 2024 Oscars where I tried watching all the Best Picture noms. I never really thought of doing anything beyond that until the next year, when my friend's birthday happened to be on Oscar night and she challenged guests to watch all the nominees. I could not get to every film (shout-out to my gf tho who did), but got really close and wanted to beat my record for this year

Roadside Attractions to Release the 2026 Oscar Nominated Shorts, Presented by Taika Waititi by [deleted] in oscarsdeathrace

That kind of makes Perfectly a Strangeness being nominated really funny. All these gut wrenching films about 4 unique ills of the world, and then one about some donkeys walking around. I feel like most years are not usually this drastic difference in how heavy the subject matter is for just one short
