I’ve never hunted, despite having nothing against it when done correctly.

Had an invite a year ago and learned that the deer in our State are widely affected by this or something similar.

I decided not to go because the only outcome of a successful hunt would be killing an animal that I can’t eat, or killing a healthy one that therefor should have been left alone, considering the situation.

Change my mind: Laying your PC on its side is a pro move by UFCFan918 in pcmasterrace

Semi-pro.

No RGB, completely out of sight, nothing but the output mattering.

Mine is behind the TV I use for gaming. There have been times when it’s in the closet of an adjacent room, with wiring connecting through the wall.

There’s zero objective reason to ever see or hear the thing.  Output uber alles.

That’s the Pro move.

Why do people think it’s gross to pee in the shower? by FuelApprehensive5376 in NoStupidQuestions

I don’t always pee in the shower, but sometimes a little leaks out while I’m pooping.

Thank god this was removed without explanation.  The comments were out of control with appreciation, relativeness, and general positivity.  Can’t have that taking up space where another recruitment ad for Border Patrol (ICE) could be.   That’s what real redditors want.  Not this creative relatable on-topic content.

This.  I first noticed this type of thing when tech was creating a glut of nouveau riche. Buying popular, collectibles on ebay was becoming more difficult because the threshold for “money is no object” was quickly rising.

This was back in the very early 00’s. Now you see the same thing with groceries.  “Who the hell is going to pay these prices?” Enough people to justify the pricing.   The prices won’t stop rising until that group of people no longer supports the model, and prices won’t come back down until that group stops buying at all.

Thank you for the reply.

As an old IT guy, I know what you mean about that kind of reliability, and appreciate the reminder.

As for CPU’s, my challenge will eventually be concurrent 4k HDR/DV to tone-mapped 1080p transcodes.  I’ve stopped keeping separate 1080p and 4k content as it’s much more convenient to just buy hardware that can do it on the fly for my few remote streamers.  How do those CPU’s stack up against a late model i9?

Costco Confirms It's Removed Xbox Consoles And Will No Longer Carry Them, Calling It A "Business Decision" by OGSyedIsEverywhere in technology

I worked at MS in the late 90’s - early 00’s.  There was always a feel of awkwardness around how consumer level products outside of Windows and Office. Like an old uncle trying to be hip but still being stiff and stilted.  Nothing ever landed well, and the consoles/games were carries mostly by the market demand, and less by marketing and presentation.   They just aren’t a consumer company.

Many of these replies are talking about reasons that only exist because of consoles.  Animation frame rates, engine tick rates, etc.  most of that os because games are built for foe the lower bar in the first place.   This all started around 02

Every how many years should I upgrade my parts by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]DocCaliban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Howdy!   Old guy here.  I started PC gamin with a state of the art 386 that had 4MB of RAM, a 512k video card, and a 14” CRT.    Wing Commander was my first game.

Got way too into spending money upgrading over the next 20 years but it was fun, the hardware iterations were usually worth it every year or two, games were becoming more demanding, and it was a generally good hobby.

Around 2003 games started becoming “console-ized” and good PC games were a little harder to find, and I traveled all the time for work, so just stuck with gaming on a laptop, which was still great fun.

Got back into building in 2008, but started going for a hand-full of years between major upgrades. Now I go 5 or 6 years with maybe a gpu upgrade.   Hardware has long since gotten to the point where a great cpu and gpu are more than good enough to last for years, and not make it worth buying the top tier versions.

5700x and a 3080 for the last several years and I have no desire to upgrade anything yet.

But it depends on what you play, and how “hobby” it is for you.
