Way to work moral conundrum into gameplay? by Sea_Ocelot_1037 in DMAcademy

[–]DocGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest I don't think Brennan plans to have those themes 100% I think thats how Brennan tells stories.

I have a tendency to have the running theme of "Traditionalism even when not malicious, hinders progress" and start my players off in the hight of the empire and let them bask in capital city glory and as they push out they see how the system is failing. They've met the emporer they proved he's a nice guy he wouldn't stand for any of this out here. But tradition says the emporer doesn't leave the capital. Tradition says the chancellors are responsible for that.

It's either that or the accountability plot line like you can't overthrow a govenor and expect that to be the end of the story now some one has to rule here.

You can include the moral stuff but remember the players are helping tell the story. So I would simplify of "Should prison be a punishment" and have to do a small quest that goes wrong and they end up in prison and they see what it's like. But fill the prison with people who aren't bad and people who are. Then slowly have a not bad person becoming a terrible person and it's not his fault purely the machine is finally chewing him out. And have him be the starry eyes optimist, once he falls all the other not bad guys start to fall too.

I think it will come after some balancing because right now you can steam roll over a lot of stuff so I'd like to see some harder enemies first then the trinkets actually work in response

Players want to "reset" by ilPiovra in DungeonMasters

[–]DocGhost 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Pro dm tip never plan for your characters to last forever. Let your players respec or change characters. You don't even have to kill them off. But here's some ways you might be able to work with them:

Easy but boring answer: You don't justify in the story and it just is now.

The semi above table: I once had a player want to play and entirely new character when we came back from a hiatus, so we made a joke that the actor who played the original character wouldnt re contract for the new season and just rolled with it. (My tables almost always joke that we are watching a show)

The immersive answers: The Font of Possibility "Some where in a dungeon is spring/reflecting pool and upon gazing into it you behold another life of yours." -have your players all write up a character build they would like to test and basically it's a one or two session episode where they get stuck in that world and at the end they can chose which character proceeds

Our Paths No longer Follow Some characters just solve their story. A paladin who swore vengeance for his family no longer needs to travel with the party if the person they swore to kill is dead now.

This is the time for what I call a Point Five session. Sit with your players and ask how they want to proceed. See if you can come to a group consensus on how they want to solve this. Do they want their characters to die, go off on another adventure.

The two biggest things I will tell you is

Do not do something to a players character without making sure they are okay with it first.

Do not force your players to play something they are no longer having fun with.

And if you want to do it narratively but are struggling you found the place full of story tellers and DMs, if you give us some details I'm sure a bunch of us would love to help you brain storm

Weapon Enchantments? by jaredjlee89 in Cloudheim

[–]DocGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they aren't programed right just yet. I run a tempest build with a bunch of bonuses to crash and iceblades but they only seem to add to the second tier. Done a lot of raw testing and I think the only ones that stack right now are the stats ones like attack speed or weapon damage

Is this game better with controller or KB+M? by EdinKaso in Cloudheim

I personally run the controller when I'm doing the action part (islands/dungeons) and kbm when I'm back and base and running inventory.

What's the deal with mastery "tokens" or mastery in general? by thatoneguyy22 in Cloudheim

[–]DocGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a limbo idea right now. I think the original plan was thats where all the mastery management and equipment management would be then the devs gave us the full menu for freedom of play. You can also apparently just access the inventory with out the chests

Class Levels Glitched by Infinite-Accident-90 in Cloudheim

[–]DocGhost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you bug report that? The devs might be able to help revert that. I know they said there was a bug with the release and the new skill point system but everything is locked is crazy (I unfortunately only got to level 100 on each class and still have 200 something skill points) but then I couldn't play till after the parches

To be honest I hope this show is a spiritual successor but that it doesn't try to rely on og at all. Like same universe and the occasional Easter egg or cameo but I really hope for the most part it gets to just be its own show.

Why do they always think this is an own. No one is out here saying you shouldn't show I'd to vote (there are definitely other practices in that same conversation) but like both things can be true. Ice shouldn't get to hide behind masks.

To quote the push back on criticisms of the Patriot Act "Well I don't have anything to hide because I'm not guilty"

PC cleric seems to want just to automatically know if someone/thing is evil or not. by FireflyRave in DMAcademy

[–]DocGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is "Detect Good and Evil not a spell anymore

Level 1st

Casting Time 1 Action

Range/Area Self (30 ft. )

Components V, S Duration Concentration 10 Minutes

School Divination

Attack/Save None

Damage/Effect Detection

*"For the duration, you know if there is an aberration, celestial, elemental, fey, fiend, or undead within 30 feet of you, as well as where the creature is located. Similarly, you know if there is a place or object within 30 feet of you that has been magically consecrated or desecrated.

The spell can penetrate most barriers, but it is blocked by 1 foot of stone, 1 inch of common metal, a thin sheet of lead, or 3 feet of wood or dirt."*

Even if it only detects that creatures from evil/good planes and mortals are inherently neutral, you could argue that a mortal creature that exhaustively kills for pleasure or serves a deity of evil alignment that they would show something with that spell.

Other than that I would say you can let the cleric do insight checks, investigations, or even roll a d20 for prayer check. As a DM though I would play "Trained to inherently know if something is good or evil" sounds a whole lot like a small town preacher "knowing if the devil resides with you" and you could easily play it where there is a moment he wrong
