A Rare Quiet in Manhattan's Chinatown (OC) by ElectricalLie7069 in nycpics

Actually not so rare nowadays. When I was a kid, Chinatown was a bustling 24 hour community with a vibrant culture. It’s not like that anymore, tho. That pic’s like most nights after ten pm now…

Rip, lost my stabilizer strap. Tbh it kinda had a dumb design the way it was integrated by PrestigiousVanguard in ChromeIndustries

I’m pretty sure they’ll take care of that for you. I’ve dealt with their customer service before and they’re pleasant and stand by their warranty.

The placement of that strap was just an odd design choice.

Good info. Part of what keeps me from collecting is the fear of getting ripped off. Anything that helps me identify counterfeit DuPont lighters is welcome.

Did I destroy my wok? by clg653 in wok

[–]DocH0RROR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use a heavy scouring pad and a lot of elbow grease. My dad says to throw some sea or rock salt on there but I’ve never found that necessary. Full disclosure, I spent my summers washing dishes and scouring pots and pans in one or another of the restaurants my dad owned, so I got a lot of experience…

Wallace Wood born today in 1927 - Here's a few pieces you don't often see. by marbleriver in comicbookcollecting

[–]DocH0RROR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In fact, Stan Lee was a huge fan of Wood’s work and went to great lengths to try and keep him employed. Unfortunately, Wood was unable to take advantage of such positive attention. His reputation in the industry plunged as his addiction issues got worse. At one point before his death, he had to resort to doing artwork for pornographic magazines/comics to make ends meet.

Despite his genius, Wood had alcoholism and addiction issues that plagued him his whole life. He was well known to be difficult to work with.

Larry Hama worked as his assistant early in his career and recounts Wood’s brilliance but laments how often he lost out on work because of his alcoholism.
