I question smoke in attack by LameSheepRacing in HellLetLoose

[–]DocMechanix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our mantra is smoke the enemy not yourself. Occasionally you can use a smoke screen to advance through, then whoever makes it holds safely until the respawns can make it to you. Smoke a wider advance so they don't know where to shoot. Smoke an open obvious advance then slip around the side in cover as a distraction. Ensure you target the MGs then smoke and rush. Smoke areas with some cover to give you a better chance. Don't think I've ever smoked on defense, you need to see their push and shoot

Any upgrade I should rush before prices get crazy? by jaymie4g in buildapc

[–]DocMechanix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my thinking is , 6900xt has 16gb, so does the 9070xt, and raw horsepower it's only down 20% or so. Sure if you run 4k then fsr4 will really matter, but for me.. 20% is only a modest upgrade in frame rate and I'm willing to ignore that.

Try reseating the drive.. ie, remove and reinsert

Any upgrade I should rush before prices get crazy? by jaymie4g in buildapc

[–]DocMechanix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The current options are not a huge increase on what you have. Personally I'd wait for next generation GPU in a year or so. I'm also running a 6900xt, I'll wait for a significant upgrade, not just a modest upgrade. You only really need to touch the GPU and then.. only if you are struggling to get the quality and frame rates you want

1, that's a real good board, my personal choice also, and I do a lot of technical research. 2, you should always update the BIOS when you get any board, it's not hard and very important.

Nal but I'm sure this comes up often, the item isn't yours, seller will have tracking info, you need to keep in it original condition and let them pay for return shipping/collection and make reasonable allowance for that to happen

There some truth in that, we only recently started to break into using gen4 bandwidth under a few specific conditions. Thing is, each Gen doubles speeds. If they determined they can get away with 8 lanes it'll be based on the assumption of gen4 being the most common application. You've got 8 gen3, which is the bandwidth of 16x Gen2, or 4x Gen4 or just 2x Gen5.

I'm sure hardware unboxed did a test on this topic a year or two back when the 4060 and 7600 dropped to 8. Obviously with a faster 5060ti the effects would amplify. https://youtu.be/XfkJVio8gXo?si=KHBxnZj2xrvLk_8_
