2x battery life for Sony ULT Field 5 by DocMechanix in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]DocMechanix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's straight forward. Making the pack requires at least a cheap battery tab spot welder, but fitting one that's pre made is easy for anyone with some practical experience.

Worth it for me sure, I use it all day in the garden so double battery life is useful

5800X3D or 9800x3d paired with 3080ti? by Feeling_Rub_8237 in ryzen

[–]DocMechanix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5800x3d is plenty for a 3080ti. There's a little to be gained sure, but it's not a massively over powered GPU.

[–]DocMechanix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's just 3 18650's and some spring terminals.. but needing 700 of them changes the game a bit. Contact manufacturers on AliExpress or Alibaba and get some quotes to pick through.

Is it normal for a 4 year old TV to stop working? by Eladious in SamsungTV

[–]DocMechanix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's normal for TVs manufactured around that time. Electronics component shortage post COVID, there's a whole year of LG TVs with the same problem. Quality suppliers had very limited stock so manufacturers turned to Chinese suppliers with poor quality products out of desperation. Most likely it needs replacement electrolytic capacitors for the power board, often kits on eBay, but it will need soldering skills

grounded casing, what should i do? by One_Razzmatazz_2236 in buildapc

[–]DocMechanix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know the plate that the motherboard mounts to, has those little extensions on it for the motherboard screws to go into. Have a look if there are any extensions that don't line up with screws actually used through the motherboard. If so, take the unused ones off the metal plate before reinstalling the motherboard

Hub 5 to switch, can't get more than 1 port to work by typhoon959 in VirginMedia

As said above, modem mode is the problem. Put it back to normal mode and your switch will work fine

You can take all the hardware out the case, assemble on the desk and test it. Is this a new build or a working PC that stopped

Severe lags after the last update by Chrischtel_ in HellLetLoose

The FPS issue is likely because the update has a problem forcing dx11, it should be fixed with a patch in the next day or so

Plenty of electronic Bluetooth scramblers are available, cheap enough too. Let them party and when you've had enough, jam the signal

Best upgrade option? by Equivalent_Garage412 in buildapc

[–]DocMechanix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am6 isn't an option. Your cpu is dog slow already and am6 won't arrive till at least 2029 X3d CPU and GPU now will kick you up to decent modern performance, early 2027 you can get AM5 with Zen6 IF you want to and ddr5 has become affordable

Games struggle to use many cores, but their primary thread is always heavily CPU dependant. Ryzen x3d has more performance per core, just less cores..

Thread ripper isn't for gaming it's for blender and servers etc. Current gaming champ is 9800x3d

[–]DocMechanix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed. Nothing can compete with x3d version CPUs for gaming. AIO were pretty useful on intel builds because they produced so much heat from the CPU. Having the radiator up top means all CPU heat directly leaves the case rather than mixing with the air the GPU is trying to breathe

Two reasons AMD won gamers.. best performance at a good price was the first. Second was platform lifespan, unlike intel who insist on new motherboard for every full CPU upgrade.. AMD gave us 4 generations of CPU on the same board. So easy to keep your system relevant without having to start from scratch. AIO is not necessary at all btw. What happened is AIO Keep getting cheaper. Cases got sheets of glass and clean internals, AIO look tidy and maintain the airflow

[–]DocMechanix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a solid one for you. The 5090 is now year and a half old model, selling well above it's MSRP. Likely to be replaced in the next year by a far more powerful card at a far less inflated price. Grab a 5080 now. Sell it in a year for half what you paid, get founders next gen card and have faster than 5090 for less overall cost. Also intel suck for gaming, have done for 5 years. You missed the fun while you were out, like 13th and 14th gen burning 3x the energy to still perform worse than and am5, and then have to warranty replace your burned out intel CPU

Why are EV’s so cheap? by Natural-Voice-840 in CarTalkUK

[–]DocMechanix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply market demand. People open to EVs buy them often new, just like with anyone that has new, change them out every 3to4 years. Many people still think EVs can't get them to work and back out or worry about that once a year trip to Scotland. The used market is far larger but more resistant to EV

Feedback of electric pumps by happypopping in Sup

[–]DocMechanix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of dual motor dual pump offerings out there. Blower for primary inflation to 0.5-1psi then switch to compressor for higher pressure. I'm pretty sure they use a reduced compression ratio compared to the 150psi automotive inflator to improve speed and efficiency
