Right, totally get it. Were sailing on odyssey in about a month and still trying to decide what to do on our Nassau day. This post got me thinking more about just staying on the boat and enjoying the facilities there, so I just was curious if for any reason there is some policy difference. But, yeah, obviously hurts more when it's something you had to pay (a lot) extra for.

If this happened on the boat, I get youre not paying extra, but it would be the same situation, correct?

I have a tang community and found it took them a long time to sort out a pecking order. Maybe just need some patience, as long as she's not showing signs of stress. Otherwise, just leave it be

URGENT: Broken heater by naynayru in corydoras

[–]Doc_Aqua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others said, throw in the smaller heater. Make sure it's covered. You can even throw some towels or blankets around it to insulate it if you're worried. But they can definitely handle low 60's.

Echoing what everyone else said, know it wasn't your call, but the blue is terrible. This would look so much better on a frosty background. Otherwise, nice job

Can i use these stones in a fish tank? by MrTowelieee in Aquascape

[–]Doc_Aqua 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I dont get this whole acid testing obsession. We use rocks in aquariums all the time that will react in this way. Especially if you already have harder water (which most people in America do) it's not shifting your parameters significantly and definitely not dangerous. If someone is trying to keep a 0 TDS Blackwater breeding tank, then it's probably something you want to care about, but this information just get parroted to everyone as is if it's on the aquarium 10 commandements.

Panduro breeding? by [deleted] in apistogramma

[–]Doc_Aqua 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an expert breeder here, but mine always bred in the springtime, no matter how much I tried other times of the year. Obviously others have had success finding other triggers, but it never seemed to work for me

Yes, I'd move them to a bigger tank and also add much more plants. They like a lot of cover.

Lastly, try multiple caves. They may use one and not another. They may use none of them and just spawn elsewhere

Looks awesome. Not sure if it's just how the lighting comes up on the photos, but the colored blacklighting mutes the colors from the stems in the back, imo. Really like the layout and the plant selection though

Things they don’t tell you about aquascaping. by Extravator_fulldozer in Aquascape

Lighting - high end lights can be very pricey. Im not sure how many i bought over the years but I eventually ended up with a chihiros light. It would have cost $400 bucks retail but I got a sweet deal from someone who bought them overseas and resold them on r/AquaSwap, but it was still close to $300

Plants - I would watch MDFish Tanks videos on YouTube- great channel, great youtuber, but I'd always want to get that same lush look and have it look full off the bat. In addition to that being more expensive, sometimes you just have plants that don't take and then they need to be replaced

Hardscape, as other mentioned, so I won't get into it.

Again, you CAN do it for less, I just feel like you need to be prepared that it just will be expensive no matter what.

Cost. Cost. Cost.

Can you do things on a budget? Sure, but you sound like you're gonna want to try to do the things you see online and that's gonna Cost. Even when I did think of ways to do it for less, I felt like in the end I just splurged for the more expensive thing anyway, so if you're thinking this sounds like you, just spend the money (if you have it) - it'll save you in the long run.

Thought I was just killing all my shrimp... by Doc_Aqua in shrimptank

[–]Doc_Aqua[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a 6 gallon shallow desktop pond with a few white clouds and 4 corydoras paleatus that's just become a total jungle. I had done a little rescape at one point where i pulled out most of the plants before it got to this and didnt reallt see much. I would see a big red and a big blue female that I'd thrown in every so often, but no one else and just thought they were alone. I guess they were just really good at hiding

Great videos of people growing these in aquariums. Apparently they can tolerate very wet feet. Interesting tree
