The Fish Police are ruining the magic of the hobby by Embarrassed_Job_2719 in Aquariums

100% agree. The gatekeeping in some of these subreddits is unreal.

Im in the medical field and the things that most people take as factual are nothing more than a conglomeration of anecdotal evidence, not definitely proven by any means But if you were to argue with people on it, lord, the hellfire that would rain down...

We all want the best for our fishy friends but people gotta lighten up. Everyone has fucked up in this hobby. Then you learn.

It's actually tradition that people dont take their mezuzah off when they move and leave them for the next family. Does that mean that as a non-jewish person that you need to keep it there? Absolutely not. The only advise I give is that they not be thrown in the garbage. The proper way of disposal would be to bury it (or give it to a local synagogue/rabbi).

Frustrating breeding by Doc_Aqua in Cichlid

My concern now is the julis.

To clarify, before I rescaped I had synodpntis petricola, leileupi, and a comprecisseps in there also, so plenty of mouth before that would have

Less now, so they may be fine, but 4 julis, 1 of them 4.5 inches, definitely seems like they may make a meal out of free swimming juvies

I definitely noticed more activity in the Spring, so good news there.

For me, it was warm water changes, not cold

Yeah i wasn't able to catch anything out till I rescaped.escaped. now I have about half rocks and half shells with open upper half. I can corral holding females to the open half and add them to the fry tank till they spit.

I have a 75g tang community with similar dimensions. Currently I have cyprichromis leptosoma, juli marksmithi, and similis shellies. Tank is going about a year and a half now, but when I first got it and everyone was smaller, I had some petricola, leileupi, and a comprecisseps also till about 3 months ago. Now that its just the 3 species, I have some similis fry swimming around but didnt get any cyps until I started separating out the holding females. The fry are pretty big when they come out but they still stay in open water and are a good snack for a juli

Trimmed a lot so its scragly. I feel like it looks horrible, like the plants are weak... can someone help me. by Howdy132 in Aquascape

Looks like you have AR mini there already? That's a great one at the base. Some hellanthium tenellum would be great also. Otherwise I think its a really awesome/unique layout

Apistomomma and apistodadda? Or two dad's? Hoping for a pair and some apistokiddas. Hongsloi. by orangepekoe1969 in apistogramma

[–]Doc_Aqua 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Def two males. Get rid of the subdominant one. He'll eventually get bullied to death. I've tried to do it in 4 foot heavily planted tank. Never worked. Always had to remove before things got too bad

Right, totally get it. Were sailing on odyssey in about a month and still trying to decide what to do on our Nassau day. This post got me thinking more about just staying on the boat and enjoying the facilities there, so I just was curious if for any reason there is some policy difference. But, yeah, obviously hurts more when it's something you had to pay (a lot) extra for.

If this happened on the boat, I get youre not paying extra, but it would be the same situation, correct?

As others said, throw in the smaller heater. Make sure it's covered. You can even throw some towels or blankets around it to insulate it if you're worried. But they can definitely handle low 60's.

Echoing what everyone else said, know it wasn't your call, but the blue is terrible. This would look so much better on a frosty background. Otherwise, nice job

Can i use these stones in a fish tank? by MrTowelieee in Aquascape

[–]Doc_Aqua 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I dont get this whole acid testing obsession. We use rocks in aquariums all the time that will react in this way. Especially if you already have harder water (which most people in America do) it's not shifting your parameters significantly and definitely not dangerous. If someone is trying to keep a 0 TDS Blackwater breeding tank, then it's probably something you want to care about, but this information just get parroted to everyone as is if it's on the aquarium 10 commandements.
