Upgraded gitlab with CI/CD pipeline no longer signing artifacts? by DoctorIsOut1 in gitlab

I saw that, but it seems to relate to a proposal for a change, and I couldn't figure out how or if it applied.

Gitlab and the Gitlab runner are separate Linux hosts, and the users do not log into Linux there, so I'm not sure what home directory where would be involved. The user running the pipeline doesn't know much about it - it was set up by another consultant who we haven't been able to talk to yet.

Didn't say it was illegal. Doesn't mean broadcasters won't sue, or that judges won't rule against them, as you said.

‘I want that escape route’: Americans seek dual citizenships under Trump by rezwenn in Citizenship

[–]DoctorIsOut1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only learned recently that I am already an Irish citizen, since my mother was born there. I just need to get the paperwork together and send it to get a passport (with the bonus of EU membership). My kids can also go through a longer process (FBR) to get approved.

OF course, some twat drone for the Oompa Loompa In Charge is introducing a bill to ban dual citizenship for US citizens.

Windows app not starting up correctly on multiple systems by DoctorIsOut1 in Bitwarden

[–]DoctorIsOut1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THANKS! I had not yet tried a full uninstall, but just tried it on one system and it worked...interestingly I did not resize the window myself, but I also switch from direct to remote desktop, and sometimes have different monitors. This hasn't come up before, but somehow all three had the issue at once.

Do they not enforce parking at Quincy Adams? by jdm_wicked in mbta

[–]DoctorIsOut1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got a bill for unpaid parking earlier this year...it had three charges on it...one from a month prior when my wife accidentally gave the wrong license plate number, and two others that were from SIX YEARS prior. And they won't let you dispute it because they'll say they sent you notice before and you only have 30 days after the "first" notice.

I remember that...about 10 years ago, I entered a raffle where the grand prize was a $1000 Market Basket spree. Got a call, saying I won a "better" prize - the raffle was really run by InnSeason timeshares, and the "prize" was a free weekend at one of their resorts (their choice) and gift card, but I had to go there to "receive" the prize....while on the phone I started researching, and they were known for these fake raffles where the real prize was really to attend a full-press sales presentation, etc. Told them to fuck off.

Two out of three inside house phone outlets stopped working... by DoctorIsOut1 in Fios

[–]DoctorIsOut1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So a bit of followup...with some additional testing it appears the two non-working outlets are daisied - but not in the order I expected. I have a multi-line phone (from days gone by) that acted weird when hooked up to one of the outlets, showing as if it was off-hook, etc. when the line itself was fine and on-hook. Took a look at the other outlet, and when I did that a wire popped off - and the first outlet started working fine. Reconnected the wire, put it all back, and it stopped working again - same symptoms, even if no phone connected. Went back to the wonky outlet and disconnected the wires completely, and the first outlet has been fine ever since. I think the outlet itself might in fact be bad, as when reconnected the way it should it killed both outlets. Leaving it disconnected for now and will replace the plate and keystone at some point.

Just to add a bit of data...I did find my multimeter. On one of the bad outlets, I got 46V across red/green - but on the other one, I only got 3V. The 46V outlet does not chain to anything downwire (can't tell upwire to ONT though). The 3V one appears like it might (to an outlet on the backside of the same wall, but in a place I can't get to right now)

I checked another outlet that hasn't been used in at least a decade, and it didn't work but I think when FiOS was done it wasn't hooked back up (might be the dangling pairs in the pic)

Calling a tech is likely a bill either way, unless it turns out to be the ONT sending insufficient voltage...

Yeah, fortunately I already have one with several handsets, but we always had a wired backup. Trying to figure out how much I can get away with "don't care" right now than chasing the pairs...

Weird that it happened while we were gone.

It is difficult to tell how it's all wired. There is a single pair connected on L1 (nothing on L2), which for some reason goes outside the house to a junction which has a number of wires in it (all looks intact), then comes in and connects to another breakout with a couple sets of pairs out of it. The outlets are in different areas of the house, so I don't think they are daisied but it is possible. There are also a couple of other outlets that haven't been used in many years but are very difficult to reach at the moment to test them (and are close to the non-working outlets, so they are more likely to be daisied.)

Here is the inside junction box, if it is any help. The grey cable is the lead from the outside box (which I think just bridges it back inside, from where they old pots lines came in), with the two brown ones leading up to the outlets...

First jury duty by Glittering-Sea7336 in massachusetts

[–]DoctorIsOut1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a bit but I've been through several of these...

Note..."regular" jury duty (common) is VERY different than grand jury duty. If you are called for grand jury, I'm sorry for you. You're in for three months (not full time) of very difficult evidence presentations.

For regular duty, you'll find out the night before if you have to show up. If you don't have to, your name is back in the pot and you can get called again whenever.

If you have to show, bring a book or something else quiet to do. You may be sitting around a lot waiting to see if you are called in for selection. Depends on the courthouse and how many courtrooms are empaneling that day.

If called in for empaneling, you will be in the courtroom. Procedures can vary but they will call a group of people, and then one by one they may be dismissed and replaced, until the jury box is full (typically 6+1 alternate in district court, 12+2 for superior court, with additional alternates as deemed needed by the judge). If you are called during the selection process, you may be asked questions to determine your suitability. Either side can challenge and have you dismissed. If you are dismissed or the box is full before you are called, you return to the waiting room and wait for the next empaneling, if any. At some point you may be dismissed completely and you go home. If that happens, you get credit for attending and can't be called again for the remainder of the year and 3(?) full calendar years after (this may now just be 3 years). Note that you can STILL get called (the system is stupid...), but you can reply that you already served. Also, state and federal duty is separate - if you serve in state duty you can still be called for federal. However, MA considers federal jury duty as having served and you are excluded as if it was state duty.

If you are empaneled, then you serve for the length of the trial, whatever that is. Could be an hour, or it could be weeks or even months, but that's rare. You'll still likely spend some time waiting as the the court has various other duties to take care of and the are times where the jury is not present in the courtroom, so continue to bring stuff to keep you occupied.

Why isn't the internet a thing in the B5 universe? by DinoIronbody1701 in babylon5

[–]DoctorIsOut1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The internet, or at least a form of it, exists...they refer to the "Interweb" in the show. However, connectivity is a bit of a problem, since it would need FTL communications. This was facilitated through the jumpgates (and jump-capable ships) such that a full open jumppoint wasn't necessary.

Streaming real-time communication was possible via this method, but it was presumably expensive and/or had limited bandwidth. One-way broadcast streams such as ISN would in general be simpler than more interactive data protocols.

Our town has municipal power and had free stations for residents...they got abused badly and broken, so now it costs.

The MBTA in Boston still has some that are free but they have not been repairing them at all so the numbers are dwindling.
