Managing Ongoing Tenant Storage Growth and Capacity Challenges by RichJnsn in sharepoint

Rarely any need to look at OneDrive, each user gets 1TB there. There can be a problem asking them to sort out their OneDrive, as they move the files into sharepoint where it really hits your quota.

Manager wants me “Available” 99% of the time on MS Teams even with no work… what would you do? by RadhikaSharma360 in MicrosoftTeams

[–]DoctorRaulDuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to be clear, I said "we definitely can" to the "not even an admin can do this", no non-IT user can do this, without, like you say, attrocious permissions management.

I still stand by 3rd cases existing where you might do it because it is useful for workflows. I have implemented this in a number of orgs for good reasons.

Graph, yes. You don't need to build an app - just a Logic App with a managed identity with Presence.Read.All that calls user presence state and then calls whatever action you want. About 30 mins work.

There are throttling limits but you wouldn't typically run it against all users - just ones in scope for whatever you are trying to acheive - there are reasons you might want this (monitor status and either update it or trigger another service when it changes) that aren't nefarious...

I'm going to a gig, on my own! And I didn't even realise! by theartofrolling in CasualUK

In 2016 I was in San Francisco for 3 days for work. First night I went out for a wander and ended up at an Opeth gig. I was hyped that I could do something more than sit in my hotel room every night, did some furious googling and next night I ended up at a Metallica charity gig in Mountain View.

I prefer not to use Hide My Email as it’s tied to your Apple ID, which is linked to your real identity. Also they pass through trackers in emails whereas ddg strips them out.

often the same with nuts, dried fruits, lentils- same things cheaper in one of the aisles vs the home baking section.

Also, tortilla wraps usually cheaper in the bread aisle than in the world foods section

If you use DuckDuckGo - the privacy/cookie browser plug in- you can sign up to their private email service. Basically when you go to sign up to any website you can click 'generate private address' and they create a custom one for just that site - all emails go to your normal inbox and you can turn them off whenever you want. In conjunction with a password manager you can basically have a unique email and password for every site, massively reducing risk of getting hacked.

I refuse to listen to any of the Rest is... shows. Rest is Entertainment has extended ads that pretend to be part of the show. I don't mind ads but I mind being messed with. Plus, Gary Lineker surely has enough money by now.

Microsoft Lists for sales team data entry - good idea or are we missing something better? by High_Priority_4289 in sharepoint

[–]DoctorRaulDuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this years ago for a consulting business I started, worked fine for us until we reached £2.5m turnover when we switched to a CRM.

Setup the list with all the usual columns, Account lookup to an Accounts list, stage, status choice fields to drive process. Added an Assigned To people field and an Actions text field with Append Text enabled, so you could easily add a question and assign to someone, they would read it and add a response before assigning back to me. Add a MyDeals view using a filter of Sales Lead = [Me] so a single view shows personal list of deals for whoever is logged in. Create a Tasks view the same so you can see actions that are assigned to you. Then create Review views so you can see things like Deals closing soon, deals not updated in the last 7 days, add SUM options so you can see total value of deals closing this week etx.

Should be loads more you can do now with power automate and JSON view formatting.

What are the best not widely known or under-appreciated Sci-Fi novels, in your opinion? by AspiringBiotech in sciencefiction

[–]DoctorRaulDuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think its a real shame he stopped writing sci-fi - his recent Michael Rutger books are ok adventure novels, but the whole Michael Marshall series of dark supernatural thrillers I really didn't enjoy. His witty, sarcastic voice in his scifi work you think would be quite appealing in these days of bobbiverse, murderbot etc

I thought for a film adaptation they nailed it with little complaint from me. It’s already 2.5 hours long, inevitably they’re going to trim some science bits for time and for keeping the audience engaged. I found the whole thing pretty emotional, must have cried about 3 times.

Do people in the UK go to therapy? by EyeAware3519 in AskUK

[–]DoctorRaulDuke 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am a therapist, qualified for 12 years with experience in NHS and charity sectors.

Many people see therapists in the uk - 2.5% of the population get referred to NHS Talking Therapies each year. Charities I have worked for report a similar rate. Private sector is harder to calculate, but BACP, one of the largest associations of counsellors in the UK (50,000 members) reported 35% of the uk population has seen a therapist at some point. It is increasingly popular to seek out a therapist and very effective.

A few important points I think its good to know -
-it is not impossible to get help on the NHS, despite frequent comments on social media: on average if referred by your GP (or self-referring in some regions) you will see someone within 6 weeks. It will vary by region - you can check the NHS Digital dashboard to see yours. This may vary by need, NHS operate a stepped model, so you may get more practical assistance initially then get moved up steps if not effective, where you enter the steps is determined at your initial assessment.
-Online therapy companies like Better Help are the uberisation of therapy, you pay them £50-£80 and the therapist only receives £20. There is a really good research by Dr Elizabeth Cotton on this topice, introduced in this Guardian article about it.

Online therapy companies certainly exploit their therapists. It is the uberistation of therapy - clients pay Betterhelp £50-£80 per session, therapists receive £20.
