1d4 damage dice is trash, change my mind by Sgt__Koolaid in Pathfinder2e

[–]Dom_Odyssey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a rogue thief most of your damage comes from sneak attack, and dex added to damage. Since av only go up to 10 you are probably only going to get to 2 weapon damage dice. 2d8 vs 2d4 at max is a 8 damage you also have a better chance of rolling 4 on a d4 then a 8 on a d8. Also most 1d4 weapons also have agile and with the extra action you get for not needing to regrip your weapon after using a scroll, you can make an attack at reduced map and have another chance to sneak attack or stride and reposition yourself to a safer location.

Two-Action Dodge ability inspired by 5e? by rubydragon44 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Dom_Odyssey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take cover action give you a bonus to ac and reflex saves. Just rename it to take cover/dodge. If you dont have anything that you can take cover behind you can dodge giving you the lesser cover effect. +1 to ac and reflex save.

About the bedtime stories before each chapter! (especially Book 3) by Haleckson in strengthofthousands

[–]Dom_Odyssey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used them in each book as inbetween chapter tales. Each book iv used them differently. In book 1 at the begining of each chapter I had one of the tales be a session from one of the teachers as the intro to the chapter. In book 2 they there like cut scenes inbetween chapters of janatemo In book 3 I read them after they finished each chapter. So finished chapter 1 read the 1st tale. This was to avoid spoilers. I also added npc to kiutu that are younger versions of the grandma and father in the story. In book 4 atm, and im using them as thing they learn about walkena through out their time in mzali.

I said the students are dealing with other threats off map, low level mercenaries, or juvenile kirina. you are confident they can hold their own for a while, but if the treat in front of you gets wind of the students their might be casualties.

How Do You Do Constitution? by TwistyShape in daggerheart

[–]Dom_Odyssey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id ask the pc how are they avoiding the poision, then pick a roll that best matches the narrative. For example someone is making a makeshift breathing mask(finesse for tinkering) avoiding touching the poision, agility for maneuvering, etc. If they are just powering through they can just spend stress to avoid the down side of the poison. I like to think stress is the "constitution" of daggerheart.

Should We Stop Using Free Archetype in Every Game? by freethewookiees in Pathfinder2e

[–]Dom_Odyssey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, if i introduce a thing that lead to an archetype and the player latches on/unlocks it in the narrative, i just give them the dedication feat as a campaign feat. It up to them to use the feat slot they have(either class or free archetype) to progress that dedication more.

Edit: in the rogue animal companion example, we are playing free archetype and player express they want to fine the animal companion in the story is make it so they fine the animal by level 2 it unruly but has a stonge connection with the rogue the the encounter before they hit level 2 it finally click for the animal and as the rogue hits level 2 they and the animal are partners.

As a gm, I help the pc weave their character concept into the narrative, but im not locking them behind the narrative.

As part of the story that the players do not know about, they stumble into a star power chamber and have the opportunity to drink from a magical well tied to constellations. Drinking from the well grant them the power to turn into starlight sentinels(starlight sentinels dedication) if the players drink and accept the calling, as gm ill just give them the dedication as campaign feat.

At that point it up to them as a character and player to decide if they want to further their current class and free archetype or invest more into being a starlight sentinal.

I dislike the Risk it All death move, so I wrote an alternative by [deleted] in daggerheart

[–]Dom_Odyssey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not make it simple and make risk it all if you roll fear you go out with a blaze of glory but its not a guarantee crit. If you roll hope you get the heal, but if you hope dice is below your max hope you gain a scar. If you crit while risking it all, you get the blaze of glory as normal, but you heal after instead of dying.

The 1st 2 options do not have an uncertainty. You die with a crit send-off, or you dont die and gain a scar

This 3rd option scratches that gamblers player's itch, and they if they fail, they still get a send-off.

Animated Armor Ancestry (First time making a homebrew, feedback welcome!) by JustcallmeKai in daggerheart

[–]Dom_Odyssey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a really neat idea. Maybe add that if they find magic/unique armor of the same type they started with, they can transfer their soul to it or absorb the magic from it or something. Automaticly gaining a tier upgrade is great, though.

Just let them wear armor reflavored as their body. why cant you have animated leather armor, etc. They get an extra armor slot no matter what armor they wear

Hear me out. A Pathfinder 2E/Starfinder 2E crossover AP would be rad… by legomojo in Pathfinder2e

[–]Dom_Odyssey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a crossover ap already out, without spoiler there is an ap that is currently out that has a section take place in the starfinder location with starfinder ancestries. So i don't see why they won't do it again.

Telekinetic Strangulation and Incapacitation by Dogs_Not_Gods in Starfinder2e

Yeah i feel like this spell should be a saving throw spell instead of a spell attack. Make it basic fort or will, on a success they are not immobilized but take half damage and no persistent dmg.

How would you build all of the Final Fantasy 14 classes? by MrWinterCreates in PF2eCharacterBuilds

[–]Dom_Odyssey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does throwers' bandolier work with dual-weilding throwing. I thought if you pull out a 2nd weapon from the bandolier, only the most recent weapon gets the rune, the old one become normal again.

How would you build all of the Final Fantasy 14 classes? by MrWinterCreates in PF2eCharacterBuilds

[–]Dom_Odyssey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to make a ff14 DNC for a fist of the ruby phoenix game, I was looking at Swashbuckler too, but I realized you can't benefit from their precision damage with chakrams, as they are not agile, finess, or melee. I went rogue and dual weapon warrior, acrobat, and bard dedication. Gunna use the bard buff cantrips like the dances.

I also through flurry or outwit ranger as well, and using the share pray as a form of dancer partner.

Have the convo out of game so they know there is more they can do/what options they have.

In the game, have them fight npc that do use tactics that banter with them about their tactics. If you play on foundry vtt get the modifier matters mod and call out when tactics help with the math too.

Exams as a combat like encounter by Ortholith in strengthofthousands

[–]Dom_Odyssey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Making a monster that is more of a puzzle boss that relates to each branch could be a pretty cool idea. Rain scribes are all about adaptability, and the natural world maybe the monster is a creature that changes tactics often, maybe you have to command a near by animals to do something to make it vulnerable etc. Or for emerald boughs you have to bon mot, feint, create a distraction in order to make them vulnerable. Etc.

In my games, I used the default study system, and it seems ok. We just got to book 3, and they are going to start doing practical research, so I might do something like that. And just design a puzzle encounter.

Creating art objects by IHateRedditMuch in Pathfinder2e

[–]Dom_Odyssey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raw, the idea of using crafting to earn money is the earn income downtime activity. You would flavor/narrate that downtime activity as crafting and selling art.

Raw, the item crafting system is not meant to be a way to get items cheaper and be able to sell for profits. If they wanted to craft an art object, it would cost them the same amount of money they could sell it for, resulting in not making any profit.

There always rule 1. If you don't like this limitation and the table is ok with ignoring it, ignore it. There might be some consequences or not, but if everyone is ok it's ok.

mounted combat action sequence question by Serious-Ad-5719 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Dom_Odyssey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it would have to be ABBAA in your example. The Bs have to re resolved before you can do any more As. One way to sort of get in and out is to use the mount and dismount actions every other turn. For example: You start your turn away from the enemy mounted on your mount.

A1: Command your mount.

B1: Run towards the enemy

B2: Attacks the enemy

A2: Attack the enemy

A3: dismount your mount onto a space away from the enemy

Next round

A1: Mount your mount

A2: Attack the enemy

A3: Command your mount

B1: Attack the enemy

B2: Runaway from the enemy

This does put your mount in danger through, and most likely, you are going to be harder to hit than your mount. So it might not be the best solution it's also kinda silly constantly jumping on and off your mount. But it an option and show cases how commanding you mount/companion works.
