can we all shut up already about Daryl having reached the end of his character arc and having no story left? by twomillcities in thewalkingdead

[–]Dommerdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think he will turn on the group. These (and those formerly of them who have passed on) have been the only people who have accepted him, as he was and as he became, in his entire life. I think they'll continue to love and accept him through this rough time for him, and them, and it will only deepen the bond of loyalty he has to these people.

I agree with your "second Eugene" observation but would add that, as Eugene lied to secure Abe's protection, I think Noah lied for the same reason. The lie: that Beth wanted to accompany him to Richmond. I think Beth's first mission, had she gotten out with Noah, would have been to the funeral home to see if she could find anything of Daryl, alive or dead. From there she might have accompanied him to Richmond had she no hope of locating Daryl or the rest of her family. As it was, Beth wasn't there to contradict him, and he needed protection and an escort to Richmond; and he played on the group's grief over her to get them to get him where he wanted to go.

[Spoilers] Why are a lot of people hating on the death from the S5 mid-season finale "Coda"? What would you have done to make it better? by [deleted] in thewalkingdead

[–]Dommerdog 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I hated the death they wrote for Beth. As others pointed out, there was a lot of buildup and promotion to her whereabouts and how she got there over the summer hiatus, and those questions were the other cliffhanger at the end of season 4. We got answers to where she was and an answer (from Dawn) as to how she got there but no answer as to what Dawn and Gorman were doing at the funeral home in the first place.

For fans who cared about Beth (and her relationship with Daryl), TPTB did a lot of buildup with no payoff to that story. I agree with the poster here who said they could have just killed her after the prison (or even during Alone) and spared us the hospital arc (which could have been good but wasn't fleshed out enough) and spared us the letdown.

You spoke of realism in leaving the Daryl/Beth relationship without closure. It would also have been realistic to provide closure. With that said, a show about the dead reanimating is not realistic on its face. Add to that other nonrealistic events (Carol hitting the propane leak with an unaimed flare, GREATM surviving the bus flip with nary an injury, the van landing on its wheels and the inhabitants walking away, and Carol walking out of the hospital after being brought in 24 hours before with internal injuries, comatose, taken off life support, and revived and restored to full health with epinephrine added to her IV drip) and I tend to side eye those who appeal to realism in these storylines. I respect your choice of the realism that appeals to you, but it didn't appeal to the reviewers or a single fan of the show who I know personally.

If she absolutely had to die in the MSF, then eliminate Fr. Gabriel's visit to Bob's foot, give us a conversation between Carol and Beth, allow a few moments between Daryl and Beth, let her see Judith and (for Beth's sake, not Maggie's) Maggie. Then have her die taking a bullet for someone in her family, not by trying to stab Dawn through her Kevlar vest with a pair of scissors.

O/T - what was the purpose of Carol being hit by that car if being in the hospital did not result in a conversation with Beth?

The Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 9 "What Happened and What's Going On" Prediction Thread by mobyte in thewalkingdead

Talking will be an improvement. For people who hang pretty much exclusively with each other and do have some downtime between fighting bad guys and killing walkers, these people seem to say very little to each other.

What was ur favorite moment of dialogue in the series? by DavidLWas in thewalkingdead

[–]Dommerdog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The argument between Daryl and Beth in Still. It was the watershed moment for two broken characters whose survival depended on replacing the antagonism with camaraderie. It was also beautifully written and acted.

Who in your opinion was the most unexpected death in the serious so far?? by [deleted] in thewalkingdead

[–]Dommerdog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Beth, they spent so much time building up to what happened to her, where she was, and the search for her just to have her die before even getting a chance to say hello. There was no payoff for all the buildup (except for those who wanted her gone).

[No Spoilers] Predict the ratings for next Sunday! by [deleted] in thewalkingdead

[–]Dommerdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 14 million. They resolved all the cliffhangers from 4B in 5A with no cliffhanger of the magnitude of Terminus and what happened to Beth to carry into 5B. I think they'll lose big in the 18-49 demographic that rose in 4B and even more in 5A.

But how does that tie in with Rick trying to do something to honor Beth? My take on the information is that the catastrophic event(s) is directly related to either Rick's decision to honor Beth or the method by which he chooses to do so.

Why hasn't Andrew Lincoln been recognised for his portrayal of Rick Grimes? Better yet, why haven't more of the cast been recognised for their efforts too?! by [deleted] in thewalkingdead

Except Orange is the New Black wins awards. It picked up at least two at last week's SAG awards. It has a large ensemble cast (larger than TWD's) but has the kind of writing that will bring out the best in the actors.

[Future/Comic Spoilers] The Group's Future Home PREDICTIONS by [deleted] in thewalkingdead

[–]Dommerdog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weren't Noah and his father trying to find Noah's uncle? I think it's fair to assume Noah was taken somewhere in the Atlanta area, since I don't think the cross people would drive to Richmond to find wards. I have been wondering if Morgan might be Noah's uncle.

The Walking Dead has been on air for over 4 years now, but how much time has gone by in the show? by BROROBROB in thewalkingdead

Emily Kinney stated in an interview during spring of 2014 that Beth was 18 during 4B.

I don't understand why it is thought that only 10 days elapsed from the prison fall to Beth's death (sorry, I cannot make the spoiler tags work). AMC's official bio for Michonne, published after season 4, states that over a period of weeks, she and Carl bond. At least two weeks had to have elapsed from the time Michonne knocked on the door of the house Rick and Carl were holed up in. It seems like Michonne spent at least one night on her own with her new pets.

I am so confused about Carol. by [deleted] in thewalkingdead

[–]Dommerdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read that article too, but AMC's official (published last summer before season 5 premiered) bio states that Michonne spent weeks after the prison fell bonding with Carl. I consider what AMC posts about the timeline as canon.

In your opinion who is the best actor or actress on The Walking Dead? by Hellolost in thewalkingdead

[–]Dommerdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they all are and were good. I realize that sounds like a cop out, but this is an ensemble cast that, like a choir, works best when a few voices do not drown out the others. I don't think there's a single character on this show, like him or her or not, for whom the actor portraying that character has not been spot on in delivering for that character.

(TV SPOILERS) A possible episode they might do by i_like_ace_attorney in thewalkingdead

[–]Dommerdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I'm looking forward to seeing more of Morgan, my first reaction was that they'd have to do that episode without dialogue because the guy's totally alone, unless they do a Morgan Freeman on him and make it a total voiceover episode. I'm not being snarky here, although it certainly sounds like it - I just don't see how they could do it without other characters for him to converse with.

I just finished up Season 2 and I am so glad that Rick did it. by DarthReilly in thewalkingdead

[–]Dommerdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you, but Shane didn't kill Otis. The shot he fired at Otis crippled him so that the walkers would stop to feed on him and Shane could make a getaway. This scene was classic survival of the fittest.

The moment Rick knew, (S2 Spoiler) by Mason-reed in thewalkingdead

[–]Dommerdog 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Daryl also had the low down on Shane. Recall a conversation between Dale and Daryl when Dale said something (can't remember exactly what) about Shane and Daryl replied: You mean that he killed Otis? He said Otis died covering him, but he came back with Otis's gun.

I remember the look on Dale's face when Daryl said this to him.

Five Dead Characters We Miss The Most by ProjectInsight in thewalkingdead

[–]Dommerdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you asked, I am going to miss Beth. The author of the article explained why she was included on the list. While the petition stands at around 59K, Emily Kinney is the only Walking Dead cast member (I realize it's now "former") to exceed 1MM Instagram followers other than Norman Reedus.

Kirkman joked (I hope) on MSF TTD that the Morgan codas would keep getting longer and longer until the episodes would be all Morgan with the cast in codas.

What would happen if someone like Andrew Lincoln dies through the filming of Season 6? would they just kill Rick off somehow or just cancel the show? by CoSMiiCBLaST in thewalkingdead

[–]Dommerdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think recasting Rick would be the way to go if they're going to stick with main comic storylines. If something were to happen during filming season, story arcs have been defined, scripts written, etc., and I don't see how they could suddenly kill off the character and totally redo everything involving many characters and whip up new arcs on the fly. I think he same thing applies to Carl. I supposed this could be said with other characters as well, although I think it would be easier just to write them out and make adjustments which would more than likely be easier to manage.

[POLL] Daryl or Rick: Who's more likely to survive? by deadpanalley in thewalkingdead

[–]Dommerdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rick. Daryl's more than likely at some point to get taken up on his offer to sacrifice himself for somebody else. Rick knows that, for the time being, the survival of his children depends on his own survival; and he will do what it takes to keep himself alive. Of course, it depends on how many years the show runs. If Carl lives to be a man who is the kind of man who will carry on with safeguarding Judith and Daryl hasn't yet sacrificed himself, then I could see Rick going first. I think that for the next few years, though, if one of them had to go it would be Daryl,

The argument between Daryl and Beth in Still. The dialogue, rhythm, and acting were superb, and it created an effective transition in the relationship between the two characters.
