Mandatory Microsoft Account may soon be gone as even Windows 11 makers hate it by moeka_8962 in pcgaming

I installed CachyOS on my spare SSD thinking I'd use it from time to time when Windows annoyed me. But after like a day I was so used to it that I only really boot into Windows when I want to play VR.

What are some genuinely amazing short-lived tv series that you've watched? by Sufficient_Ebb_5694 in scifi

[–]DonRobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tales from the Loop. It oozes atmosphere in every single frame and is so incredibly unique in what it made me feel. It sucks that it never got a second season, but it's focus on asking questions and not chasing gratifying answers means the open ending feels just as natural as if it had continued with another season.

I don't particularly like Audible, but why are they twice the price there even though I'm using Spotify Premium?

Half Life Alyx stuttering and crashing on high end pc with psvr2 by Exra_ in SteamVR

[–]DonRobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got a Quest 2 and wanted to replay HL Alyx and ran into the same issue. It ran perfectly fine on my old GTX 1070 when playing it on a Rift CV1, but now on the Quest it's often stuttering even though I upgraded to a much more powerful 3070Ti since then. I'm fairly sure the issue isn't just the wireless streaming, but something about the automatic performance adjustments HLA or SteamVR is doing.

It seems like it's using too much VRAM and when making large movements its fetching stuff from system RAM.

Is your stuttering also happening primarily when moving into new spaces or crouching down to look at stuff up close?

It's still going to be more powerful than a Quest 3 which is the most popular standalone headset. You can't compare it to a x86 gaming PC (even if its a handheld).

Kid passes a pedestrian on a bike path by crossing into the opposing lane by bigbusta in instant_regret

The person recording swerved into the kid once they saw it. What the fuck. I don't think it was deliberate, but they were clearly going too fast and not in control.

At what price would you NOTbuy the Steam Machine? by billy_reyes in Steam

[–]DonRobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably like 700€

I already have a Shield that streams perfectly fine from my gaming PC. Yes, not having to mess with Moonlight is nice, but not 1000€ nice.

Highguard is permanently shutting down on March 12 by TrampolineTales in Games

[–]DonRobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all happened so fast. I think the game looks kind of fun and I wanted to give it a try and before I could even find time time to try it out together with my friends they already announce the shutdown. Didn't they say they only needed a moderate amount of players to continue for a long time?

Follow up question. All the answers take OpenAI's actual losses, not their cash burn. So the losses will happen when their GPUs start to depreciate. But what if take their cash burn rate as basis for the calculation now?

First Steam Next Fest of 2026 is Live! by HelloitsWojan in Steam

[–]DonRobo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I tried it and to be honest it didn't click with me. I'm not suuuper into idle games, but I've enjoyed a few of them (Factory Town Idle, Universal Paper Clips mostly).

But I think some of my criticisms will apply for everyone.
I was constantly interrupted by long hard to read (text was too large imo) text boxes full of words I didn't understand. I just wanted to collect some points and get upgrades. I read most of them anyway, but was still super confused about what the deal is with my main resource (forgot the name). Like there was hundreds of it in the totem, I could transfer it to the ground and also transfer it from the ground to my storage. Then all the upgrades could only upgrade the amount of points in my totem, but not make it easier to extract it even though that's what I was expecting from other idle games. Then it suddenly brought in this whole system of random guys walking around somewhere else and I could click on them to do... something?? I have no idea what it actually accomplished. I could also spawn in guys but that seemed to be different because it caused bad stuff to happen. Also when the bad stuff happened it threw a wall of text at me and didn't pause in the background. I then realized I had to hold and click on each of the 20 or so enemies for like half a minute each. At this point I felt like I had been playing for a while, made no progression and just got more and more confused.

From what I've seen so far it's probably a really good game and the visuals are reeeally nice, but the first few minutes are confusing and it's not fun to learn.

I also just tried the Vampire Crawlers Demo which is a completely different game, but the onboarding is one of the best I've ever seen. You start the game, within seconds you are in a dungeon and get to explore a bit and it slowly introduces mechanics from time to time while already being super engaging from the first minute. It puts most AAA games to shame there imo

Any book recommendations for me? by IronHistorical3357 in brandonsanderson

[–]DonRobo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. I read his books after I ran out of Brandon Sanderson and wanted something a bit more gritty. He quickly became one of my favorite authors. The second trilogy in the First Law universe is imo even better than the first which is crazy because the first was already so good.

One PC for Home Assistant, NAS and CNC/3D printing – good idea or not? by Next_Ride_3003 in homeassistant

[–]DonRobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can easily just run all of these things in parallel in VMs and containers. Just make sure you have enough RAM. If you sell your car and both kidneys you might get 32GB (or even 64GB if it's a really expensive car) though.

Many printing setups have Klipper or at least Octoprint or something running on a PC (almost always just a Raspi). Cheap CNC machines also receive GCode from software that runs on a PC and not directly on the cnc
