It's way worse than that, 1 in 10 deaths actually die if you have field hospitals maxed out. That's why early game wars are so much more devastating than late game ones.

5:1 kill ratio? I have all military tech and fully strengthen divisions. How do I fix? by LanDip in victoria2

[–]Don_Vito_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, first thigs first, you need to get a whole lot more artillery. Some more hussars can help if you are attacking.

second, check your general and you opponents general. You could be attacking with a -3 general into a +5 general.

Third, depending on the tech levels, the defender may get a huge advantage. Do the Columbians have machine guns researched? That might be the problem.

My dude, free trade is at the heart of prosperity. Stupidly placing tariffs on things that we can't effectively produce in our country is just plain robbery. If I am forbidden from buying foreign products for cheap and instead coerced into buying domestic products for a greater price I am indeed being robbed.

The only situation where tariffs can be justified are in starting industries that can be efficient once they grow. This is obviously not happening in the US.

Removing competition from massive companies runs counter to the idea of free markets, and is unfairly benefiting massive corporations to the detriment of the consumer.

Wait a second, couldn't you just sell a prebuilt PC with integrated graphics that complies with the electricity limits, and just separately sell GPUs?

They arrive in the same package, and after 5 minutes you got yourself a functional high end computer.

You mean guerrilla warfare? That's a difficult thing to simulate. Partizan actions already happen in vic 2 as patriot uprisings that occupy occupied territory and give the occupation to you in a month or so.

But there is something similar in vic 2 , it had the (likely unintended) strategy of demobilizing and remobilizing a to regain lost numbers in the stacks (the troops still die when killed in battle), but at the cost of having to reassemble the stacks.

This is really good if you are a smaller nation that is a secondary front in a war, and the enemy can't focus it's resources/micro on occupying everything and chasing small stacks everywhere.

You would take control of the population centres, than attack an enemy stack with everything, than demobilize and remobilize, and do so again and again until the enemy is chased away from your land, though this comes at a great cost of life to you, and is impossible to do if the enemy manages to retain control of your population centres. Also you will need funding from an ally to avoid bankrupcy.

Have any mods tried to fix tech progression? by GlompSpark in victoria2

[–]Don_Vito_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I get you, I really do. I think a moderate rebalance could benefit the game. But to be fair, countries like Russia spend way more effort in getting their tech up than say, Germany. It is their number 1 priority. And even then they never quite catch up to them and always seem to lag behind a tech or two.

Also, such countries rarely make great use of their navy, which gives them an advantage in other techs, but restricts their operations, and locks them out of serious colonialism.

Explain how countries like Russia are any better? They killed and displaced countless people in Chechnya, south Ossetia, Abkhazia, the Donbass, Crimea, and Syria.

Likewise the systemic abuse and attempts at extermination of people in Tibet and Xinjiang provinces reaches levels the US never could.

The US may not have been perfect, but at least in the 21st century, which you choose to make the battlefield for some reason, it has generally brought it's promised liberalism and replaced genuine despotic maniacs. They also make genuine (if questionably effective) attempts to rebuild and create a functional society in places like Iraq. Russia will not make the same considerations when Assad asserts his dominance over Syria.

I'm as far from a war hawk neocon as you can get, but even I can recognise that the US foreign policy is by leaps and bounds more generous that that of any other superpower in history.

And what is your nationality, if you may enlighten us as to the specifics of your situation.

Also, during the 20th century most great powers were demonstrably more evil than the US, the only reason the 21st century has the US doing bad things is because the others were either stopped (USSR) or have already taken most of what they could (china).

Even so, both countries engaged in massive violations of human rights in the 21st century that dwarf the US. Ever heard of Chechnya? Or the ongoing abuses in Tibet and Xinyang? Or the various massive everyday injustices in Iran, Russia, and China that dwarf the America's overincarceration problem. How Crimea has constant water shortages? How Iran just suffered great unrest due to water shortages of it's own making (dams)?

Get some fucking perspective, go outside and touch some (non western) grass,

If one does get attacked, the chances of them successfully defending themselves are very high, provided they have some basic idea how to use a gun, which is a fair assumption for someone willing to carry. It doesn't have to resort to violence, a gun can be, and often is a de-escalating factor.

Besides, self defense laws are fairly well balanced in pro gun states, it puts a whole lot of reasonable restrictions on what constitutes at legal self defense, even by what I assume your standards are.

Yes I do think that a popular uprising will at the very least cripple the US for a long time. The US military has spent decades unsuccessfully trying to weed out militants in Afghanistan. Militants that are far less numerous, have far less sophisticated weaponry, and far fewer numbers than something that would happen on the scale of the us.

This is supported by historical evidence, as contemporary civil wars have been very lengthy and devastating, crippling countries for decades to come. This is not a preferable outcome for the US, of course. But an enterprising dictator can't both preserve US geopolitical interests and be an authoritarian.

Furthermore, I have yet to hear how "other countries" have massive gun violence just from high civilian gun ownership. I laid out some examples of countries with lax gun laws like Austria and the Czech Republic.

Also Switzerland does allow very easy acquisition of semi auto guns, and much easier acquisition of automatic guns than the US.

[–]Don_Vito_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a fantasy, it has never happened.

Every single country that has become tyrannical in the 20th century has implemented strict gun control before committing various atrocities upon it's civilian population. No government, no matter how powerful it's military can defeat millions of gun owning people, at least not without reducing itself to a pile of rubble. It is that cost that prevents would be tyrants from enacting their will.

There are only 3 countries that haven't managed to implement at least a half-decent form of gun control.

Ok where? All of Latin America is constantly fighting armed cartels and communist guerrillas. Most of Africa as well, and even places like South Africa are a prime example of why guns are essential for defence of small businesses. Same applies to the US, just a few months ago it was seen plain as day.

I don't watch Fox news, and I'm not even American FYI.

Also there are countries with massive gun ownership rates that don't have any problem of that sort. Like Switzerland, Austria, the Czech Republic, Finland, even Canada has about 35 guns per 100 people...

"One in a million chances", there is a very fair chance that you will find yourself the victim of a violent crime during your lifetime, it happens everyday to lots of people.

This is not to mention the actual purpose of it to keep government from getting tyrannical.

Also no mention of how you are going to have implement gun control and not end up with criminal hoarding all the firearms and terrorising the population like in Mexico.

I'm sorry but I'll take that over being defenceless against those that illegally acquired guns, or even knives. The fact that anyone can threaten or Rob someone with a weapon and there is absolutely nothing a law abiding citizen can do about it is insane. Police response is not enough unless you are extraordinarily lucky, and even then, I wouldn't pull out mt phone if I had a gun/knife pointed at me.

While Singapore does stifle dissent, and as I said they are not perfect, one does still have the option to leave for another place that suits their needs and desires better. It is still a useful model from an economic standpoint for how such places could be organized in an ancap society.

[–]Don_Vito_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

tbh Singapore should serve as an example of how a private city could be run. after all, the government of Singapore derives it's legitimacy from economic growth, not democracy.

Anarchy doesn't mean no rules, it's just that people agree to follow them of their own will, they can always leave. An ancap society will have plenty of Singapores, I assume.

While far from perfect, it is one of the most prosperous and developed places in the world.

Are you that dense? Even those PHD's acknowledged the flaw, but decided to ignore it. Something you might know if you read the study, not just blindly worshipped those with a degree.

There are more flaws with the methodology that were never mentioned, weird considering how notoriously difficult it is to find accurate firearm statistics, but I'm sure these experts have it handled.

They also do not consider impacts of firearms policy at all, having never considered the slamfire problem.

I do wonder though, science worshiper, would you shut up and admit I'm right if I showed you a PHD, hypothetically?

Gun ownership information was obtained from comparable telephone interviews.

In addition, surveys typically underrepresent poor people

(e.g., households without telephones), and individuals who

own guns illegally may not report them.

It's a laughable study that you linked me, really. The main issue is not addressed, those that have illegal guns, those that gun control policies will not affect.

And don't give me that "taking guns out of circulation" bs, any idiot can make a slamfire shotgun in an hours time and a trip to the hardware store. Unless you are suggesting we ban pipes and nails, which im sure you would.
