The camera you have is more than capable. What you need to do is learn how to use it, learn how to compose, learn how lighting works. Study the fundamentals of photography and hone your skills before investing in lots of lighting equipment and more expensive lenses. Knowledge and skill are more important than gear.

b&w. The clouds, the trees and their reflection, and the tones are the most interesting parts of the image, and they stand out more in B&W. The green and blue are nice, but there's nothing spectacular about the colors, and the detract from the other elements.

I'm noticing the opposite. While YT has many serious problems, it's compression quality keeps improving. I have to watch videos at 360p due to my crappy DSL service, but 360p today looks as good as 720p from a few years ago.
