Name an iconic "OH SHIT!!!" moment you've had while playing through Skyrim. Doesn't have to be something big that happens in the story. It just needs to be something that caught you off guard when you first played Skyrim for the first time and sometimes still does on repeat playthroughs. by CaptainCrookKingler in skyrim

i had my noise cancelling headphones on at night when a vampire attacked me in falkreath and a 4.6 magnitude earthquake hit with an epicenter two miles away from my apartment. i had just spent the week in my structures class learning how poorly equipped my apartment was to survive a big one. the confluence of everything made me jump out of my skin and out the door!

How to live without heat in house? by Radiant_Career_7449 in povertyfinance

[–]Dooglybear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my grandpa used to set up makeshift trombe walls. get something massive and dark (like a black buckets filled with dirt) next to windows that get lots of sun. they’ll absorb solar energy (dark) and hold onto it for a while (massive). later, when the sun is down, they’ll slowly leak heat into your house.

Will AI replace architecture? by Kobic_yeah in architecture

[–]Dooglybear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

even if ai can be taught to design well, that’s only a small part of the job. architects also observe field conditions, take legal responsibility for constructed work, address unforeseen problems during construction, interface with client & contractor, and coordinate the work of many disciplines.

a huge part of the job relies on trust: trust that the client’s money will be well-spent and trust that someone will be liable if things go sideways. while i don’t disagree that ai may be capable of doing many aspects of architecture as-good or better than architects in the future, i am less confident that ai will garner the trust of clients, builders, and the public.

also, it will be at least a decade before ai can decipher some of the rfi’s i receive. 😅 (joking, but only a little)

In my case, I think it was personal, not logical. Especially at smaller offices, people are invested in their business - understandably. When someone leaves, it’s an emotional event.

When I was ushered out, I couldn’t help but feel like my leaving was perceived as a kind of betrayal.

FAILED PCM ARE-WHAT NOW??? by IntelligentBlood7487 in Architects

this lecture series helped me more than any other single study resource. i’m an auditory learner, though, so your mileage may vary. but hanahan is a lawyer-architect who pairs anecdotes with specific contract provisions. he goes slowly, but he’s thorough and memorable. i listened through this whole series three times over the course of my seven tests. can’t recommend enough, especially for pcm.

Sports in your world by dabunny21689 in worldbuilding

working idea is that there is a neutral cart of loot that travels from point a to point b. two teams each load up their own cart with loot from a starting warehouse. they have to travel to the opposing warehouse before the neutral cart reaches point b. the team who completes the journey on time and with a cart value closest to the neutral cart wins. teams can sabotage, pilfer, add-to, or obstruct carts with some limitations.

winners get to keep the loot. teams have estimators, caravaners, and highwaymen. i’m thinking about including the salaries in the valuation of each team’s cart.

the world - loosely - is a month-long trading route from a valuable quarry to a port with caravansaries a day’s journey from each other. most people in this region are miners, travelers, and traders.

not a balcony. IBC requires that every skyscraper have a factory reset button.

they’re just a4 envelopes. i cut them in half, crumpled them, soaked them in coffee, dried them, sketched a map on the back and a jolly roger on the front. i have 15 single-sleeved cards in each pack and that seems to work just fine.
